I've been tagged in some journals but haven't had the time to type my own, so I'll do them together. I'm also sorry for not answering my mail but I'll clear it this week. Feel free to skip my ramblings and check out the feature instead No hard feelings.
Before I answer my tags I have one short comment about fairy tales.
A few weeks ago there was a dA article about fairy tales and their impact. I wanted to comment but didn't feel like an internet argument. It's been bugging me so I figured I'd say it anyway. This wave of "Oprahism" against fairy tales annoys the living hell out of me! Ever since that talk-show drama queen said they are a bad influence on young girls it has spawned a new breed of self-righteous prats finding hidden messages in nothingness. According to them it creates unrealistic expectations of love, relationships, your role as a woman and the role of a man. However, when you apply this same backwards logic to lets say the porn industry and say that it creates desensitization of the subject which leads to escalation and depravity as well as unrealistic body image etc, you get the same buggers kicking in their heels in it's defense.
My father taught me that an intelligent person can argue a case for any evil.
I don't feel like typing an essay on the matter stating arguments and counter arguments - I have better things to do with my time. It's not about finding "Mr/Ms right" - it's finding "Mr/Ms right-for-you" instead of "right-now". Love isn't easy, there are obstacles to overcome. You'll learn there are monsters out there and sometimes you'll be lonely or hurt but it's not the end of the story. Blah, blah, blah...you get the idea.
Maybe if more adults protected the message of the fairy tale there would be less teens on this site flashing their tits and vaginas for the world to see?
Broken adults suck the innocence and beauty out of the last safe haven in this messed up world.
Tagged me in a book game so here goes:
1. GREED What is your most inexpensive book? What is your least expensive book?
......Does free count? I went to a second hand book store and got Bram Stoker's "Dracula" for free because the cover was badly damaged. I restored it and it looks new
2. WRATHWhat author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
......I tend to only read authors I like but Mr. Stephen King was testing my patience when he said he didn't know if he would ever finish the "Dark Tower" series - he did and the ending sucked but at least I know what happened. I lived for that book. My obsession was so bad that I always left the last 2 chapters until the next book came out just in he didn't write another. That way the story wouldn't really end unless I wanted it too. I now collect the graphic novels.
3. GLUTTONYWhat book have you deliciously devoured over and over with no shame whatsoever?
......There are several but I think I've read Dante's "Inferno" at least 4 times.
4. SLOTHWhat book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
......Hermann Hesse "Steppenwolf" - he was banned in our country years ago and I wanted to see if it was his subject matter or his brother's rank in the Nazi party that caused it. I read the first few pages but it's just been staring at me since.
5. PRIDEWhat book do you most talk about in order to sound like a very intellectual reader?
......Psh, stuff that. I read only what I like.
6. LUSTWhat attributes do you find most attractive in male or female characters?
......Male- stoicism. I like the strong, silent type and he must be fearless
7. ENVYWhat books would you most like to receive as a gift?
......I own all the classics that mean a lot to me but the current releases are lacking. I haven't had the time or money to keep up with any of the authors I like so anything really. As long as it's horror, science fiction, etc. I'm game.
8. Is there a book in your collection you are ashamed of?
......Why do I own Danny Sugerman's "Wonderland Avenue"? Where the hell did it come from?!
9. What 5 books would accompany you to a desert island ( no 5 series, actual single books)
......Dante "Inferno", Milton "Paradise Lost", any E.A.Poe collection as long as it includes "alone" and "the lake", The Bible and any compendium on mythology world wide.
10. What books are you going to read next and why?
......R.Rudgley "pagan resurrection" a friend forcefully suggested it.
11. What is the first book you remember from childhood?
......Oooh plenty. I was sick often when I was little so I read a lot. There was a series of books called "Saartjie" about a little girl and her adventures. Loved it!
12. Do you owe an e-reader?/ would you like one?
......No I don't have one but it wouldn't be the same as holding a book. What I want is books on tape so that I can draw at the same time.
13. A book that truly changed your life:
......Again several. The first one that changed my reading habits was a teen horror called "the boy who reversed himself" - after that I couldn't bring myself to read any love story nonsense ever again!
14. A book you hated to read:
......THE GREAT GATSBY is a soul crushing pain in my @$$! Now they're making a movie of it
15.A book you would recommend to me:
......Well I shouldn't be allowed to recommend things, apparently I'm depressing. Stephen King's "gunslinger" It's short enough to read in a day and it's more fantasy than horror. It's simply friggin' awesome!
is going to have to forgive me for not following all the rules but I will answer her questions
