Notes: I first came up with the idea for this artwork during a deep depression in 2009. I’ve been working on artwork after artwork redux trying to nail down the concept over the years. I’m still not sure that I’ve really “got it” yet with this one but it does finally look good. The concept behind this artwork is rather tragic. I learned the hard way that people who don’t truly understand what you’re going through have a tendency to leave you. I was trapped at home when I came up with this idea of being trapped in the fish bowl while everyone leaves.
Technical Notes: This is the first underwater render that I’ve done in a very long time so I had to learn and relearn a lot to get it completed correctly. The two most important elements to making this render were the glass material of the fish bowl and the light caustics. I think I nailed both of those quite well, if I do say so myself. I postworked the render extensively with actions and filters to the point that I lost track of exactly what all that I did. The light caustics were rendered, not postworked.
