"No, you gotta hold it the other way- not- no, like, turn it around so the screen- there ya go! Turn it sideways, now- eeeyyy, you got it!" Taysom chuckled as he saw the faces of his parents with their baffled looks. But once they figured out they could see him, they both smiled and waved.
"Oh, I see now!" His mother laughed at how easy it all was once she understood holding the phone away from her face. Something they both should have known how to do already but it was embarrassing to admit in their field of work. His dad also looked like he understood how to do it now too, "Oooh, okay, that is pretty cool. How long have we been able to do this now?"
Taysom propped his phone up on a board in the stall he was in, "You don't wanna know the answer, I promise." They all laughed again, feeling silly to only be catching up with the times now.
"You're working right now?" His mom asked, seeing the surroundings and what might have been the back of a horse.
"Yup!" Taysom leaned an arm over Dolly's back, smiling to the phone. "Actually, it's a show."
"That's why you look like an extra in a John Wayne film," his dad pointed out the western attire Taysom had on.
Taysom nodded, making finger guns, "Less gun fights and chasing."
"She looks pretty, who's that?" His mom had to ask about the horse in the frame.
Taysom looked back over his shoulder seeing she was half asleep in the tie. He picked up the phone to move the field of view so they could see Dolly looking all shined up with her mane and tail all brushed out. "This is Dolly. Nice little mare. They've had me riding her for a while now. She's a slick ride, I'll tell ya."
His mom was more interested in ogling at the pretty horse she didn't know much about. His dad nodded, "That's good! That's good. They've got you doing more of this show stuff. Think you're getting a promotion?"
Taysom set the phone back on the board so he could start getting her tacked up. He scoffed humbly with a grin, "Naaaah. Short staffed, is all. Temporary limelight," Taysom explained modestly.
"Mmmm, but if you keep doing good-" his mother baited him on like his was rising through the ranks! His dad joined her with a little dance of his own, agreeing with her notion. Soon they were both wiggling and jiggling about like there was a party starting up.
Taysom laughed at how ready they were to be proud of him in any way. "You know me. I just show up and do what I gotta do. Head down, work hard. Hey, how's life been with you two?"
"Brushing off your successes, Mr. Humble Pie," his dad teased.
His mom was willing to move on since this was their brief time to catch up before they all had to get on with their days. She knew he wasn't one that liked to sit and brag in front of his parents anyway. "Your dad finally called someone to get that leak fixed."
"And he did the exact same thing I was telling you all that I was going to do," his dad defended his position.
Taysom swung the big saddle up on Dolly's back while he listened. It didn't matter how old he got, he'd always miss his parents and call to check in. They seemed to get the same idea and usually checked in when he was thinking about doing the same or vice versa. They were always supportive of his choices. To all of their kids, he was no exception in the family. They were the kind of people that would help whoever asked. He aspired to be like them; caring, generous, and genuine.
He owed it to them. He had been in a bad home before. He remembered his mom and dad fighting. They were never married but never once did they want to fight over custody. Taysom never was in their frame of mind. Alcohol and back stabbing was all he could remember that they were obsessed over. He was just present but not a part of anything in their world. When Child Protective Services could finally get him out of there, he went willingly.
And landed with Jay and Nicole Kelce. People that actually wanted him. People that wanted to be a part of his world to encourage his growth through life. It altered his whole mindset and he was eternally grateful to have a real mom and dad in his life.
"So, we talked to Jennie-" Nicole sounded like she had something to reveal, looking at Jay mischievously and back to Taysom.
Taysom finished tucking the latigo in the keeper and leaned on the saddle. He was super curious to know what she had in mind that she even talked to his boss already.
"Opening weekend, you're coming home and we've got tickets for the football game!" She clapped her hands together while Jay pumped a fist into the air and cheered!
"For real!? That's awesome!" Taysom was genuinely thrilled! He was a faithful fan of his home team! It had been his dream growing up to play for them. If it hadn't been for a series of unfortunate injuries, he truly believed he could have made it. He still watched all their games and went to one when he could. This was a true unexpected surprise! He wished he could hug them both! After the initial cheering subsided, he humbly let them know, "You two are all I need to believe in me, you know that right?"
"Believe in yourself too, Tay," Jay nodded with a warm smile. "We already know you're a wonderful human being. We knew that from the day we met you. And don't you ever forget it."
Taysom smiled, embarrassed a little but that's who his dad was - an inspiration. He nodded, understanding what he meant, "Yessir, I promise."

Hey, art~ Woo~
I'm in a phase where I like to add frames to my art right now??

Anyway, Dolly being a cool reiner - back to her roots where she's comfortable! And a peek into Taysom's personal life~ Even if he's a side character, of course I've developed him beyond "basic" lol x''D Because once I get my main crew back out of limbo, who knows when we'll get to see the dude again!?
