Still Life Study 1 by DragonSmurf Still Life Study 1 by DragonSmurf
Alright... So in my school's art class I'm actually working with dry pastels on a tiger portrait mainly...

But everyday we come in, we have 5-10 minutes to work in our sketchbooks on still-life sketches.

This was weird for me in the beginning... considering I've never been one to look for exact detail or use grid-ing. ((I still don't use Grid-ing, because I think it's too limiting.)) But now that I've been working for a few weeks on some things in this subject I actually think it's helped me improve my over all traditional skill...

The above picture was one of the first... ((the 3rd I think actually)) of my sketches that I was impressed with. The two before this were relatively simple and not really worth submitting.

However, this is a sketch of the book I've been reading for the past 2 weeks. Graceling. :) It had such a beautifully done cover, as well as some wear and tear of age that I found it to be a good focus to draw. After I finished the book I also drew the wooden table's pattern beneath it and added a slight shadow.
