Hey guys, sorry to disappear for so long. Been having a really hard time getting back to work! I'm usually really excited to make Valentine stuff, but this year I'm just really not feeling the theme I guess. I think I worked so hard for the last few months it kind of burned me out a bit.  I mean Scultpober was so stupid of me to do, knowing full well I couldn't simplify my sculpts as much as they needed to be for such a grueling schedule. Then I immediately launched into getting my coloring book ready in time for Christmas orders, plus one last sculpture sale in time for Christmas. Such an intense, draining schedule... it felt so nice to do nothing for a few weeks. But now I feel almost no drive to sculpt. I think maybe it is just that I feel I need to follow a Valentine theme. Maybe if I draw some ideas of what I really want to work on it will help. I've always done stuff for Valentine's Day, but maybe I shouldn't care about that. Seems I do best when I make what my heart wants instead of following holiday themes.

Regardless, I will be having a "Valenitine's Sale" at the end of February. I've made some valentine scrap dragons, but I think in order to get myself excited to sculpt, I may deviate from the theme and make what I'm inspired to. Which is of course, not really a problem, as most people don't actually want valentine colored things, they want awesome things for valentines day! Right?? So I'll just go wherever my heart takes me and hopefully you lovely folks like it! Perhaps some dice dragons, and couples in color schemes I like. I mean that is still Valentine's-y but I get to choose the colors!

Anyway, I'm rambling now. I've just had a hard time focusing on work. I think I miss my family... but I talked to my mom today and that helped a little. It's really hard being so far away from them sometimes. They mean the world to me, and not being able to be with them is so hard to deal with sometimes. Just gets me down a little, especially with a child. I just feel like Ember is missing out on bonding with her cousins and that  I'm losing the bond I have with my family. It's just really hard being so far away from them :(

But working helps me not dwell on that stuff too much. I just need to find "that thing" that I really want to work on and go for it. I'm thinking I might revisit the elementals, in their chibi versions. That sounds pretty fun at the moment. We'll see where I go!

I also wanted to thank everyone that has bought one of my coloring books! I just love the pics people have sent me of their kiddos working on their books. I put so much time and effort and worry into them, I'm just glad everyone is enjoying them so much. Maybe I'll make another later this year when I've built up enough drawings.

Anyway, take care all, and I hope the beginning of this new year has been treating you well!

P.S. On a completely random side note, I just finished Breakout Kings and loved it and was SO annoyed they canceled the show after two seasons! Whyyy? Boo! Lame! D:

Feeling cut off from your family sounds really rough...I mean, I went away to school for four years, but if I -really- needed to go see them all it took was twenty dollars and about three hours. I was still in the area, more or less. I am curious to know what it's like being farther away but it sounds like it has some serious complications to it?

D&B, what sort of materials do you use for your sculpting?
My dad is encouraging me to pursue sculpting, (like you  do) and really likes your work.

I never get enough time to sculpt, leaving me always eager, but doing it almost 24/7 would tire me out too!

You're right - people want awesome stuff, not Valentine's stuff that's in a color scheme they're going to have to put away the day after they get it!

I felt the same a few days ago when I was at my nana's house, I don't know why but if I'm away from my house too long I get paranoid ( i feel like someone's probably stolen something) and I just miss my house.

And true, I don't really know what to do for valentines day... I'll think of something though. I reckon if you just draw a bunch of random 'Valentines Day' crap you'll think of something to sculpt or just post XD

I can understand being separated from your family.. I'm in a similar predicament.
On the flip side, I did pick up one of your coloring books. ;) Now to break out the prismacolors..

Aww! I know how it feels! I'm over 1000 miles away from my family members. I truly hope you feel better and remember, family is only a phone call away. Every Sunday Evening my family has a massive reunion on facetime/Skype/hangouts maybe you could look at doing that, or something of that nature. It might make you feel better... Just a thought.

As for valentines, the color scheme for Valentine's Day is not my favorite to begin with so I'm glad, even if I can't snag one, if it wasn't all white, red, pink, and purple. As I have seen, people feel the same way so by all means go for it. Besides when you are inspired anything tends to be better than going through the motions. Enjoy yourself!

I can't do all that you do and so be proud of your accomplishments! Although it seems like it was a lot (and obviously was) you got it done without falter. You did it, just relax, your fans will still be here for you, no matter how long you take. :)

Aw I hope you feel better soon. I feel it is the effort that counts and you did a lot of that for scultober, so thank you for that. I too am trying to get back to my work but I am also having a tough time feeling it. Relax a little bit if then feeling comes it comes if it doesn't then don't worry. Again thank you for your hard work and determination.

I'd rather have an awesome something that I can look at all year and it be awesome all year, than a simple something that is themed for only one part of the year. Anything can be a gift, and I'll remember it as such from whom and when, despite it not being all blatant about it. I loved your colouring book, might need to snag another one though.

Being away from family is not fun, I can say from experience. My hubby is in the Navy and I have been away from home for years. It was really hard at first but has gotten easier with time. My daughter was the first and only grandchild for years, I think it may have been harder on my parents than me at times though, but they would come out to visit everyother year so that made it bareable. Your dragons and beasties are adorable no matter what color they come in and I am sure that all of your fans will agree to that. So don't worry about your inspirations just do what makes you happy.

When you start feeling homesick just go and look at that beautiful baby of yours and give her some extra hugs from them. She is missing out on knowing your family but she will get to know your friends and you. That is all a kid can ask for, getting to love their parents and be loved by them. My daughter calls my few really good friends aunt and uncle and she is 14 now.

When my little one was actually little, I would find myself asking what my mother would do given a situation and figured out that she would do the same that I did do. Phones make the distance seem shorter and Skype (if you can get your family on that) makes it even better. Your little one will love skyping with grandma :) and grandma will love it too!

I don't think sculptober was a bad idea. :3 It was a challenge for you, to make things go with themes you might haven't tried before, and what came out of it was wonders. As for Valentine's Day.. Pfeuh. As long as you have red, pink or white things, if they aren't Valentine-Themed, I'm pretty sure none will notice ;). You are a talented sculptor (how do you even spell that word? I can't english this morning) and just go with what inspires you most~

eeeh, pink's not really my thing, so go for whatever you want and I'll buy it :) Take a break though! Whatever you need to refuel and feel good about art.
By the way;, I bought..7?..10?...of your coloring books to give to my friends. They loved them, and I, of course, kept three for myself! XD Oh, and I gave a copy to my sis <3

I'm not sure if you want this, but I could try drawing some doodles for you? I need practice, and you are amazing

It sounds like you need a proper vacation away somewhere, some time to see your family and then some time to yourself to relax and wind down! You work so hard! I hope you find your mojo again and get to enjoy yourself!

Also, I'm pretty sure your amazing cat dragon is my spirit animal! <3 I love them! I now spend too much time gazing at your designs on Zazzle X3

Awww, I'm sorry, I know it feel the same if I was separated from my mother :(

hmm... Valentine's vibe... Really, I could sketch some things, I am the master at simple designs XD I never do complicated scales and stuff, sooo.... You can just ask, and I'll stick some Lineart into my profile :)

I hope you feel better bby <3

I really think all of your art is awesome, and maybe you could do that mother and child lineart you drew once! I think that would be fun. Well, if it was too complicated, most likely not .3.

we all love you bby, and I know your sculptures will turn out amazing like always <3

I know what it's like to feel cut off from your family... a few years ago my dad lost his job and we had to move to Kansas City, and I rarely saw my family outside of my parents and brothers.

Don't worry about what people expect of you, just do what feels right to you :3
