Here’s the fifth picture of the Fixing Fusion Monsters series of my very own making. This one is the new and improved version of the Fusion of Tainted Wisdom and Ancient Brain. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, anime, and card game, there is a Fusion monster named Skull Knight, which is said to be the Fusion of Tainted Wisdom and Ancient Brain. Unfortunately, that monster completely ignored both the themes and the physical attributes of the two fusees, since instead of being a living brain or a wizard with an exposed brain, it was simply a horned warrior wearing skull-themed armor.
Just like with the previous fixed Fusion monster, there was absolutely no way I could have ever fixed Skull Knight at all, considering that this armored warrior of darkness had nothing to do with either Tainted Wisdom or Ancient Brain. In the end, I scrapped Skull Knight entirely, as it was far too flawed to be called a proper Fusion, and started from scratch in the hope of finding a much more suitable theme for the two monsters used to create this brand-new Fusion.
It wasn’t easy, however, since I struggled a lot to find the perfect combination of a living brain filled with worms and a wicked wizard with a massive exposed brain. Despite the difficulty of figuring out an ideal Fusion between these two monsters, I ultimately decided to go with simplicity for the final redesigned Fusion. However, I couldn’t simply place Ancient Brain inside Tainted Wisdom as a replacement brain, as that would have been far too boring and uncreative—essentially turning the former into nothing more than the latter with a new brain. Because of this, I made several tweaks and added new elements to ensure this redesigned Fusion felt more original while still remaining completely faithful to both monsters used to create it.
While the first three revamped Fusions were 2.0 versions of Fusionist, Barox, and Marine Beast, where I added missing physical elements from their respective fusees, this Fusion—much like the last one—is a complete reimagining of the combination of Tainted Wisdom and Ancient Brain. Thus, instead of being a horned warrior clad in skull-themed armor, this revamped Fusion is a wicked wizard that possesses the wings, body, horn, ears, nose, hands, robe, staff, and single horn of Ancient Brain, while Tainted Wisdom itself now serves as the actual brain of this redesigned combination rather than the former’s own brain. And so, the Wicked Sage was born.
As mentioned earlier, several major changes were made. The body and wings of Ancient Brain were enlarged, the green shades of both the skin and the robe were darkened, and yellow details were added to the robe to match the color of the sinister wizard’s original exposed brain. The staff was also redesigned, changing from a simple single-horned wooden stick with a red crystal ball into a much larger staff decorated with red markings and the head of a demonic beast encasing the crystal. The beard was elongated as a reference to Merlin, the eyes were given black pupils, and the creepy worms were redesigned to act as hair strands for this brand-new Fusion.
The Wicked Sage is a sinister and highly intelligent wizard born from the unholy fusion of Tainted Wisdom and Ancient Brain. Once a scholar obsessed with forbidden knowledge, his endless thirst for power led him to embrace dark sorcery that warped both his mind and body. As a result, his exposed brain became infested with gigantic, living worms—manifestations of the corrupted wisdom he now wields. Drawing upon the cursed intellect of Tainted Wisdom and the unnatural brain power of Ancient Brain, the Wicked Sage has mastered some of the darkest spells ever conceived. He commands the writhing worms within his brain to lash out at his enemies, violently assaulting their minds and bodies alike. Those unfortunate enough to fall victim to these attacks have their knowledge, memories, and even magical abilities drained and absorbed into the Sage’s ever-growing consciousness. With every spell cast and every mind consumed, the Wicked Sage grows more cunning, more powerful, and more monstrous. Feared by scholars and sorcerers alike, he wanders in search of forbidden secrets, believing that ultimate enlightenment can only be achieved through absolute corruption. The stats of this wizard are the same as the Skull Knight.
