Description
Here’s the sixth picture of the second wave of the Fixing Fusion Monsters series, which also happens to be the sixteenth one overall. This is the brand-new and improved Fusion of Feral Imp and Snakeyashi. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, anime, and card game, there is a Fusion Monster named Rose Specter of Dunn, but just like many of the previous creatures I’ve either improved by adding missing elements or completely redesigned due to being unfaithful to their respective fusees, this Fusion monster lacked nearly every physical aspect of Feral Imp. Although it was a Plant-Type monster similar to Snakeyashi, it wasn’t the right kind of plant at all, as it was a giant rose with thorny tentacles instead of a tree with a face. Thus, I had to go back to the drawing board and come up with a more fitting combination between these two monsters — and truth be told, this was one of the easiest Fusion monsters I’ve ever created.
For this new Fusion monster, I had three concepts that helped me figure out a new combination for Feral Imp and Snakeyashi. The first was the Ent, a gigantic tree that walks and talks like a human, with one of its most prominent appearances being in The Lord of the Rings franchise. Since then, these wooden giants have appeared in many movies, cartoons, video games, and ancient legends that existed long before J.R.R. Tolkien wrote his iconic book series.
The second concept was the swamp, as these plant- and water-covered lands are known for housing numerous poisonous and deadly plants, which felt fitting for a carnivorous and feral tree like Snakeyashi. Swamps are also home to legends of lurking monsters, such as the Bunyip from Aboriginal mythology, the Lernaean Hydra from Greek mythology fought by the mighty Hercules, and the Skunk Ape, a huge ape with a foul stench said to inhabit the swamps of Florida — all of which suited a wild creature like Feral Imp.
The third and final concept was the clothing worn by various witch doctors and tiki creatures, which is mostly composed of collars, skirts, and bracelets made entirely of green leaves. As a result, the combination of these three ideas gave birth to the Swamp Ent of Oblivion.
Originally, I had no idea what the coloration of this Fusion Monster should be, as I wanted it to remain faithful to its two fusees while still feeling original. However, I quickly settled on simplicity as the solution. This winged and horned beast, with thick and sharp skin made entirely of living wood, wears the green fur of Feral Imp around its collar, waist, wrists, and ankles as clothing — similar to the witch doctors mentioned earlier, as well as Hawaiian hula dancers.
Meanwhile, the red leaves located at the very top of Snakeyashi are now present along the wings, serving as feathers in this case. Since the red and green leaves, along with the orange and yellow wood seen across the body, all exist naturally in real-life swamps and forested regions, this monster gains a major advantage: it can easily camouflage itself to remain hidden and perform a series of deadly surprise attacks against both enemies and prey.
So far, the Swamp Ent of Oblivion possesses the body, arms, legs, clawed hands and feet, wings, head, pointed ears, and nose of Feral Imp, along with its green fur, which has been entwined into clothing around the collar, waist, wrists, and ankles as previously explained. From Snakeyashi, it inherits the sharp blue eyes, massive mouth filled with jagged teeth, yellow wooden skin, orange wooden claws on both the hands and feet, and the red leaves that now serve as feathers for its wooden wings.
Since the carnivorous tree is said to be composed entirely of living snakes, it made sense to keep both yellow and orange as part of the monster’s body, implying that it can unleash numerous snakes from across its entire form. The large horn at the top of its head is a repainted version of the Horn of the Unicorn, an artifact that the green-furred beast has been shown to be empowered by on several occasions — now painted pink to match the color of its natural claws and smaller horn.
The Swamp Ent of Oblivion is a mysterious yet terrifying guardian of the deepest and most treacherous swamps, born from the fusion of the feral brutality of Feral Imp and the carnivorous nature of Snakeyashi. This wooden-skinned monster is fiercely territorial, attacking anyone or anything that dares to harm its swamp or disturb the fragile balance of its domain. Legends claim that once the Swamp Ent marks an intruder, escape becomes nearly impossible. Thanks to its mastery of natural camouflage, very few have ever seen this creature’s true form. Its body blends perfectly with the surrounding vegetation, tree trunks, and murky waters, making it nearly indistinguishable from the swamp itself. Travelers who venture too deep often disappear without ever realizing they were being watched. When it chooses to strike, the Swamp Ent can extend its limbs to unnatural lengths, snatching animals or enemies from afar, and it can even take to the air, flying at incredible speeds despite its massive, wooden frame. The monster can also shed and launch its own red leaves, each one saturated with a foul, mind-breaking stench inherited from its poisonous nature. Those struck by these leaves are said to lose their sanity or become infected with a lethal toxin that spreads rapidly through the body. However, its most fearsome power lies in the massive horn atop its head, from which it unleashes devastating electrical blasts capable of reducing entire areas of the swamp to scorched ruins. True to its fusion with Snakeyashi, the Swamp Ent of Oblivion’s body is composed of countless living, poisonous snakes hidden beneath layers of wood and bark. These serpents strike independently at any foe foolish enough to engage it, injecting deadly venom with every bite. Acting as a single organism, the snakes grant the monster extraordinary regenerative abilities, allowing it to heal from nearly any wound and grow even stronger as the battle drags on. Once awakened, this ent is not merely a monster—but an unstoppable embodiment of nature’s wrath. The stats of Swamp Ent of Oblivion are the same ones as Rose Specter of Dunn.
