Description
This is the tenth and final picture of the first wave of the Fixing Fusion Monsters series, as I’ll be making more of these in the very near future. This is the new Fusion of Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie called Skelgon 2.0. In the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, anime, and card game, there is a Fusion monster known as Great Mammoth of Goldfine. However, just like all the previous Fusion monsters in this series that I either tweaked or completely overhauled into brand-new designs, this fearsome giant completely fell short of the mark—at least in terms of being an actual Fusion monster. Although it is a Zombie-type monster just like both Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie, this yellow skeletal mammoth lacks all the physical elements of the two monsters used to create it.
While I was working on the revamped Fusion, I had a lot of difficulty finding the perfect combination between a gorgon and an undead dragon instead of a yellow skeletal mammoth, until something immediately came to mind. I then thought: what if I transferred another phenomenal Fusion monster to become the new Fusion between Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie? Skelgon, the Fusion of Snake Hair and Blackland Fire Dragon, is very awesome and beautiful in an ugly way, and the fact that this skeletal dragon has a gigantic snake-like body fits perfectly with Snake Hair. While it doesn’t work as well for Blackland Fire Dragon, it fits Dragon Zombie extremely well. After all, Skelgon and Dragon Zombie are both undead dragons with exposed flesh and bones throughout their massive bodies, they have decaying teeth, and their devilish wings are very similar to each other. On top of that, the serpent-like skeletal body of Skelgon perfectly represents the snake theme of Snake Hair, which is a huge bonus. However, I still needed to make several changes by recoloring the bones, muscles, and claws to make this new Skelgon much more terrifying than the original, while also incorporating several physical elements from Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie.
Similar to how I handled the 2.0 versions of Fusionist, Barox, Marine Beast, Mystical Sand, and Kamionwizard—since they all already had the general themes and physical traits of their fusees despite their many flaws before their much-needed tweaks—the new Skelgon, also known as Skelgon 2.0, preserves many physical attributes of the original while reinterpreting them in new ways to be completely faithful to Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie. The serpent-like skeletal dragon base of the original Skelgon actually makes a lot of sense here, especially considering that in ancient East Asian legends, demonic, dark, or undead dragons were said to be bringers of disasters and tragedies that ended up killing millions of innocent people. I thought this was a grim but very fitting theme for Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie, as both monsters are undead.
The parts this flying undead beast is composed of include the serpent-like body resembling one of the snakes found in the hair of Snake Hair, along with the skeletal wings, clawed arms, and head from Dragon Zombie. The head was given three horns: one on the top of the nose like a rhino, and two more on the head, similar to most dragons. The black eyes were given glowing yellow pupils to make this zombified dragon even more fearsome while also allowing it to see in complete darkness. The exposed muscles were colored purple to reference the decaying flesh of Dragon Zombie, while the bones and large claws were painted green as a nod to the living snakes that make up the hair of Snake Hair. The clawed hands were changed from pink to dark red, since both the gorgon and the undead dragon feature dark red tones in their nails and exposed muscles, respectively.
For those who are worried about the fact that I reassigned Skelgon from Snake Hair and Blackland Fire Dragon, there’s no need to be concerned—because in the near future, I’ll be giving those two monsters their own original custom Fusion to make up for it.
Skelgon 2.0 is a dark and savage beast of pure death and destruction, spreading mayhem wherever it flies. Despite its massive size, this undead dragon is far faster than it appears, with speed perfectly matched to its equally devastating strength. While this gigantic skeletal monstrosity is already terrifying due to its nightmarish appearance, it is also armed to the bone with enormous claws and razor-sharp teeth capable of brutally tearing apart anything—or anyone—that crosses its path. As if that weren’t horrifying enough, this draconic abomination possesses the cursed gaze of Snake Hair, allowing it to turn any living creature to stone with a single look. It can also unleash a corrosive, deathly breath from its mouth like Dragon Zombie, so potent that it completely dissolves its enemies until nothing remains but foul dust scattered across the ground. Born from the unholy fusion of Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie, Skelgon 2.0 perfectly embodies the undead nature of both monsters. From Snake Hair, it inherits its serpent-like body and petrifying stare, a curse that spreads terror even without physical contact. From Dragon Zombie, it gains its skeletal structure, decaying flesh, and relentless undead resilience, making it a creature that feels neither pain nor fear. Legends say Skelgon 2.0 is a harbinger of calamity, appearing in the skies before great disasters and mass death, leaving entire regions petrified, corroded, or reduced to ruins. With its fusion of draconic savagery and cursed gorgon power, Skelgon 2.0 stands as one of the most feared undead Fusion monsters to ever exist. The stats of the new Skelgon are pretty much the same seen as the Great Mammoth of Goldfine.
