Fixed Fusion Monsters: Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0

This is the eleventh picture of the second wave of the Fixing Fusion Monsters series, and it also happens to be the twenty-first one of the entire series. This time, it’s the updated and improved Fusion of Bottom Dweller and Tongyo, known as Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0. I named this Fusion monster Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0 because, in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga, Anime, and card game, there is an actual Fusion monster called Roaring Ocean Snake. Originally, this massive sea creature was the Fusion between Mystic Lamp and Hyosube, but as I explained before when I created the Divine Sea Turtle as their new combination, this giant snake wasn’t exactly the best choice. While it was indeed a reptile and a Water-Attribute monster like the latter, it wasn’t a sea turtle at all and completely ditched the golden and magical themes seen in the former.

While I was very happy with the new Fusion I created for Mystic Lamp and Hyosube, I still felt that Roaring Ocean Snake had the potential to work as a Fusion monster — I just needed to find the right fusees for this aquatic beast.

There is another Fusion monster in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga, Anime, and card game named Deepsea Shark, which is the Fusion between Bottom Dweller and Tongyo. However, just like all the previous Fusion monsters in this series that received major updates or were completely redesigned, this massive shark fell short of the mark, as it completely lacked most of the physical attributes and overall themes present in its two fusees, despite being a Water-Attribute monster and a sea creature like them. Even though Deepsea Shark shared the same purple skin seen on Tongyo’s body and one of its eyes — which was turned into a large one in the middle of its forehead — it completely ditched the large tongue and wasn’t even a sea snake at all, which is exactly what Bottom Dweller is.

That’s when I quickly realized that Roaring Ocean Snake actually shared nearly all of the physical traits present in both fusees. For one thing, both Roaring Ocean Snake and Bottom Dweller are gigantic, ferocious sea serpents with fins along their backs, and the former also possesses a massive tongue, which is Tongyo’s most notable trait. So, similar to how I transferred Skelgon from Snake Hair and Blackland Fire Dragon to Snake Hair and Dragon Zombie — turning it into a 2.0 version because it worked better as a Fusion between two undead monsters — I took Roaring Ocean Snake away from Mystic Lamp and Hyosube and reassigned it to Bottom Dweller and Tongyo. And just like I previously did with Labyrinth Tank, Cyber-Saurus, Rare Fish, and Flame Ghost, I created a 2.0 version of Roaring Ocean Snake by adding the appropriate colors and additional physical traits from its new fusees.

One of the main inspirations behind the updated design of this Fusion monster was the sea serpent, a legendary sea creature found in myths all around the world. As their name implies, sea serpents are massive, snake-like monsters that primarily live in warm and tropical waters, such as those found in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. However, they aren’t always literal snakes, as almost any long and serpentine sea monster can be considered one. Some of the most well-known sea serpents include Scylla and Hydra from Greek mythology, Jörmungandr from Norse mythology, Leviathan from the Bible — one of the fearsome seven kings of Hell — and Tiamat from Mesopotamian mythology. Given that Bottom Dweller and Roaring Ocean Snake are both giant sea serpents, using a sea serpent as the foundation for this updated Fusion monster made perfect sense.

You may be wondering why I included the fins, massive tongue, and large horn on Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0. In legends from around the world — as well as in movies, cartoons, video games, and Anime — sea serpents are often depicted with these traits. Since they are essentially fusions of snakes and fish, it makes sense for them to possess fish-like fins along their backs and large ones near the front of their bodies, even though real-life snakes are limbless and lack arms or legs. The massive tongue was included because sea serpents, snakes, and many other reptiles use their tongues to detect and capture prey before swallowing it whole, whether alive or dead.

Originally, Roaring Ocean Snake had two sharp fangs on each side of its mouth, but because the head was the most challenging part of the redesign, I struggled to incorporate them properly. That’s when I came up with the idea of merging both fangs into a single massive horn placed at the top of its head, giving it a much more intimidating appearance.

The physical traits present throughout the body of this colossal sea monster include the serpent-like body, head, fin-like ears, tail with a fin at the tip, blue dorsal fins, large front fins, and green scaly skin from Bottom Dweller, while the large blue eyes with black pupils, massive crimson tongue, and razor-sharp teeth all come from Tongyo. I also added two brand-new elements to this updated Fusion: the large yellow horn on its head, inspired by the eyes of Bottom Dweller, and the purple stripes running along its back, which reference Tongyo’s scaly skin.

In the real world, snakes are well known for concealing themselves among rocks and plants — such as trees, vines, leaves, and grass — while slowly stalking their prey before striking with deadly precision. Similarly, this titanic oceanic serpent uses its massive yellow horn to lure travelers, birds, and other sea creatures by mimicking a harmless, pointed rock protruding from the ocean’s surface, patiently waiting underwater before devouring its victims whole while they’re still alive.

Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0 is a colossal and fearsome sea creature that dwells within the most dangerous and treacherous waters of the world, where even the bravest sailors dare not venture. Born from the Fusion of Bottom Dweller, the ancient and relentless ocean serpent, and Tongyo, the ravenous deep-sea predator, this monstrous being perfectly embodies the ferocity and cunning of both fusees. Its immense, serpentine body allows it to dominate the seas with overwhelming presence alone, striking terror into any living creature that lays eyes upon it. Despite its massive size, Roaring Ocean Snake is shockingly fast, swimming at unbelievable speeds that far surpass most sea creatures and even advanced watercraft. Once it has locked onto its prey, escape becomes virtually impossible, as it closes the distance in mere moments before snapping its deadly jaws shut. Much like Bottom Dweller, it possesses immense physical strength and destructive power, enabling it to stir the oceans themselves and unleash catastrophic tidal waves, floods, and even full-scale tsunamis capable of reducing entire fleets to drifting wreckage. However, brute force is only part of what makes this sea serpent so deadly. Inheriting Tongyo’s deceptive nature and predatory intelligence, Roaring Ocean Snake is a cunning tactician that relies heavily on ambush tactics. Its massive yellow horn is often mistaken for a jagged sea rock protruding from the water’s surface, luring unsuspecting sea creatures and careless travelers closer. Once its prey is within range, the serpent erupts from the depths, dragging victims beneath the waves and devouring them with its enormous, razor-sharp teeth. Roaring Ocean Snake also possesses one of its most terrifying abilities through its massive tongue, a trait directly inherited from Tongyo. By ensnaring its victims with this powerful appendage, the beast can drain the life energy from any living creature it captures. The more energy it absorbs, the stronger and more aggressive it becomes, allowing it to continue its endless reign of terror across the oceans. Countless shipwrecks and lifeless bodies scattered throughout the seas stand as grim evidence of this monster’s existence. As the ultimate predator of the deep, Roaring Ocean Snake 2.0 is a living calamity — a perfect union of Bottom Dweller’s ancient serpentine might and Tongyo’s insatiable hunger — ruling the seas through fear, destruction, and ruthless efficiency. The new Roaring Ocean Snake shares all the stats as the Deepsea Shark.
