Background:
Esperanza's grandfather, a wealthy and experienced rancher from Mexico, had decided to give Esperanza(One of the few of his many grandchildren who shared his passion of caring for horses) a gift for training and working as a ranch hand for the last four summers without being paid. Constantino wanted to give his granddaughter her own horse. One horse, a Drakehest, caught his eye while searching for the perfect first horse. The stallion was advertised as calm, animated, and dependable. An experienced american relative was sent to check the horse before the Drake was purchased; he agreed that, indeed, the stallion was everything the sellers proclaimed him to be. Imagine the shock of Constantino and the other rancheros as the horse was accidentally presented to Esperanza before he could check the horse himself; The stallion was aggressive and confrontational. Everyone was quite confused. Had they been brought the right horse? He looked like the horse they had all seen in the ad. The relative sent to check him confirmed that the angry, challenging stallion was in fact the same horse he had seen, although he seemed a bit unsure. Esperanza watched it all from a distance away, nervously observing The Ice King. After a few days, no response from the previous owners, and little improvement in the stallion's temperament, everyone was forced to deal with it and try to train him. After some time, training and patience, the challenging stallion became aloof. Although he no longer behaved aggressively around the other horses, The Ice King didn't interact with them as he seemed to prefer to be on his own. No one knows exactly how he and Esperanza grew close, but their bond became apparent after a while. The stallion's behavior continued to improve although he remained somewhat solitary. The Ice King later became the first inhabitant of Dos Lobos Stables, Esperanza's own land. The fearless horse is extremely protective of his shy hooman bean.
