Tavros' Legs by Dragimal Tavros' Legs by Dragimal
I've been rolling this idea around in my head for a long while. I've just been wondering what Tav's legs would be like in a more realistic sense~

Before I get started, let me just say, DON'T TAKE ANY OF THIS SERIOUSLY. I am not a medical student, nor have any advanced experience with anatomy or robotics. I'm just a novice nerd for anatomy and love solving anatomical problems. A LOT of this is probably completely inaccurate. Seriously. If anyone more experienced wants to leave helpful tips and such, that's fine, since I'm always up for learning something new, but I don't want anyone throwing me under the bus cus' they thought I was educated. Are we clear? Alright then.

1) I feel like in real life, Tav's lower torso wouldn't have been cut off, and only his legs would have. Cutting off the lower torso would just have made a whole mess of work for Equius, as he would've had to redesign a new lower intestine, urinary tract, reproductive system (whatever that may actually be), etc. etc. Now, before you give the argument of Aradia, remember- she was dead, and her entire body was robotic. Thus, she had no need to eat and/or excrete waste, so Equius never had to deal with that (unless he was REALLY going in-depth with that robot of his, in which case, he seriously needed to get out more often).

2) The joints at the ankle and knee have been replaced with spheres as I believe they would be a pretty-good replacement for the original joints. The "bones" that connect to each respective sphere are curved in order to slide more precisely across the sphere.*note- the fibula does not touch the sphere of the ankle.

3) The "skeleton" and "shell" would obviously be some sort of metal, and the "muscles/tendons/ligaments" would be stretchy fabric or rubber material. The spaces between the the shell plates would be covered by a rubber material. The shell would be held in place by srtong, spring-like parts (THAT I FORGOT TO DRAW, FNNNNNNG-) that attach the inside of the plates to the "muscles".

4) Equius may or may not have added soft material between each of the joints, depending on his opinion on the durability of the "bones". Though, it is more likely that he did (even though I didn't draw it in...). Who knows- he may have thought they were all going to die soon anyways, so why waste the extra material on joints that were probably going to last for that short amount of time? (cue Sadstuck's tiniest violin~)

5) I did not, by any means, include all the muscles of the human leg. I just included the ones that I thought were most essential to basic movements (again- not an expert, so I probably accidentally left out major ones).

6) Referring back to number 1, even though Equius would be replacing Tav's legs, his lower spine would still be paralyzed and, thus, would not be able to make the legs function if Equius just slapped em' on his hips. Equius could then have three options: 1) run some sort of nervous-system wire-thing from the point where Tav's spine was severed, to some connection point in his legs; 2) do the same sort of wire-thing, but throughout most of Tav's lower-torso as well, in order to once again give him control over the functions of that area; or 3) create little sensor-things (like the ones doctors use) to put on Tav's head and/or upper-spine that track his brain-waves in order for him to control his legs, but still not his lower-torso. While the second would be more beneficial to Tav, it would be a LOT more work for Equius, so he probably would go for the last one (since brain-wave sensors are much less advanced than spine hook-ups), leaving Tav with no control over his lower-torso, and just control over his legs (wouldn't that feel weird? Man-).
I just want to point out a few things about this particular statement before anyone else does-
I actually have no clue if current technology is that advanced. The only thing I have to go on is a video I saw way-back-when in seventh grade that showed scientists testing out a robotic arm that used brain-wave sensors in order to move it. I have no clue what kind of technology them' fancy scientists have for nervous-systems these days.
Then again, this is Homestuck. Whether such technology was available or not, Equius created an entire dang Aradia, for crying-out-loud! I'm pretty sure he can do something like fix Tav's spine if he really put effort into it.
Also, some of you may think that if Equius could fix Tav's spine with nervous-system wires, then why replace his legs? Why not just fix his original ones? Well, that would actually be a heckuva lotta work. Not even considering all the neuron paths, Tav's legs would likely be atrophied WAY beyond repair. Like, they'd be these shriveled-up toothpicks that would blow away in the wind when they were finally cut-off (ok, not really, but a nice visual, huh?).
Oh, and I, of course, did not draw any of those nervous-system options in the diagrams. While Equius would be more or less required to use one of the three options, I... just didn't want to draw them. Just... no. Not going there.

7) The disks on the toes and heel of the feet are rubber track-pads to prevent slippage (weakness- stairs).

8) Yes, Equius could have very easily made all five separate toes for the feet but I feel like he would have been more likely to do that for Aradia, and less likely to try as hard for Tav. Plus, the two toes kinda remind me of bull hooves, so I'm rather fond of them. >u<

9) The pelvis would likely be Tav's original pelvis. The hip joint would be where it would be more of a requirement to put cushioning between the bones (even though I, once again, didn't draw that).

10) EDIT- WHOOPS~ I FORGOT TO MENTION HOW THE "MUSCLES" MOVE. Um, My first thought was that there may be some sort of gear/pulley system within the main shell of the "bones" that would stretch the muscles underneath the bone shell, and pull the attached bone along with it. It's hard to explain, but just imagine a pulley with a rope, and you get the main picture.
Though, it just occurred to me that electric impulses themselves could just move the muscles, without the use of gears/pulleys. It would be a lot more intricate for Equius to accomplish when it comes to the wiring of the nervous-system wires to the muscles, but it seems like it could work well if accurately applied.

Onward to general artist commentary==>

At some point in this I started half-assing it. WHOOPS- LOOKS LIKE THAT POINT WAS THE BEGINNING. Gog, I can't even handle how half-assed this is. Like, look at that pelvis. That is a friggin-huge pelvis. Man, that pelvis ain't normal. Plus, the feet look small, and butt looks HUGE- AUGH. I want to go back and just fix everything, but I've already spent WAY more time on this than I actually intended to, since I was just trying to get the idea down somehow, so I'll just let it marinate in it's own failure. TAT

If you read all that-
Wow. You get my respect for being able to decipher the language of Ashleynonsensicaljibberish.
Seriously, nice work. =D

Ah, why thank-you! I wrote it at about 3 in the morning, so I wasn't exactly sure how much sense it made...
