Common Haunt Ref by Dragimal Common Haunt Ref by Dragimal
FUN FACT: I just copy-pasted the species info onto a word doc, and I've apparently compiled a little more than 12 pages of rambling species nonsense over the course of these several years of refining them ʘ‿ʘ

for both ur sake and mine, I've moved all species info to this Tumblr post dragimalsdaydreams.tumblr.com/… , which I will be able to update w/o sending everyone annoying "updated art" notes all the time

as u can see, I'm still too lazy to make pretty ref sheets TvT,,

ANOTHER FUN FACT: a few of :icongreynose:'s suggestions for Eclypse's new patterns were integrated into some of the patterns featured here. while they may not have made it onto Eclypse herself, I did like the ideas enough to want to integrate them into a few dragons! thanks, Greynose!

I would love to see one just confidently sitting on its butt and doing photosynthesis or what they do with their moss-stuff, like, just drowzy and enjoying the sun or something :D
Also I never told ya that I like how those are similar to mice and bats and lurch..es? (don't know the english word xD) They are kinda lumpy and slim at the same time, gives a great feel of motion even when they're just standing totally stiff like here C; But hey, maybe that's just your lineart and style that provides that effect since that's something that one can see in like, all of your work? C;

that's a good idea for a pic! they'd definitely like to sunbathe for their green companions' sake~

thank you! I've definitely shifted more towards smaller/rounder animals like mice with their reference (does "lurch" mean "amphibian"? that's what Google translate gave me, but we all know how reliable that is, aha)

haha, and thank you again! that's another look I was rly going for with them-- trying to make them round/bulbous, but also gangly/thin in some parts. it's been an experiment in figuring out what parts balance out, aha. awww and thank you again! too many thank-you's, you're just too kind! I've been working on the movement in my lineart for years, so it's so great to hear that it's noticeable in my art!

yeah well lurch is not just some random amphibian, I wasn't ok with the translation xD Seems to be some language speciality since when you say lurch here where I live, every effin kid knows what you mean but not even wikipedia knows it that way xD So here's what I mean upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… ..so basically salamanders.
That paticular movement was the reason I stumbled when I saw your work for the first time and insta-watched xD Also.. it makes your stuff so unpredictably (is that a word? xD) likeable. Like, when you meet a random stranger and somehow can't do anything against sympathizing them? xD Works like that. Can't explain why I'm so drawn to that bulby-gawky look :D

AHHH that makes MUCH more sense aha, sorry I couldn't find the translation myself ;w;''
I didn't use salamanders as specific reference, but I can definitely see the resemblance! they've definitely got the same sort of bulgy/bumpy bits to them, and that squat structure. I did reference axolotls www.google.com/search?q=axolot… for the gills, however, which are somewhat similar to salamanders

oh gosh, thank you! it's so awesome to hear that my art has that kind of effect! I've never thought my style was anything special-- something that people easily pass over. but gosh, it's cool to hear that it caught your eye!
