My Dearest Olivia, I had hoped that this note would find its way to you. If you're reading it, then I must have given my life against Grima. Please, never give up hope that I'm still out there, because if I am, then I am surely looking for you too. You can start on the theater we planned out without me; I would hate to hold you up. I promise I'll join in as soon as I can, though. I may not be there to watch you dance, but the memory of your grace and beauty will keep me until I am. Always remember that I love you more than anything, and am always thinking of you.
Now, I have a favor to ask. Gather the kids. Not just ours, but the others that came from the future. I have something to tell them all. Bring Aversa and Chrom too.
To everyone: I'm sorry we didn't have more time together. I suppose it was partially thanks to me that your parents all met one another during this war. As such, I've felt a fatherly responsibility- no, love even- for all of you. We had our difficulties, but know that each of you has a special place in my heart, whether we are related by blood, water or not at all. If any of you feel out of place, remember that you will always have a place under my roof. Olivia and I will have our hands full building and maintaining the theater she and I dreamed up!
Inigo, I wish you had told me your reasons for being who you are earlier. You made me proud to the end, and I want you to know that. I wouldn't have you any other way. Your courage and concern for the others warmed my heart, and I can't think of anybody I would rather have to succeed me. You'd better not go looking for any souvenirs to remind you of me. I promise I'll be back before you have the time to forget anything.
Morgan, you are already a great tactician. I had meant to always be there for you, to both push and pull you along. You were so close to beating me in our last game of chess that I started to sweat! The next time, I'm sure you will beat me. I'm sure you'll never be too far from my books, so there's no need for me to tell you to do your best. You'll out-do your old man someday, and if you love me as much as I loved you, then I'm sure I'll be there to see it soon.
Owain, you'd better take care of my Morgan. I was skeptical at first, but after our talk in the hot springs, I know that I am leaving her in the most capable hands. You have my blessing as your father-in-law. I promise I'm as proud of you as Lissa and Long'qu are. So long as your sword hand remains raised to protect her from harm, I will keep smiling. Now put your hand down, I don't mean it literally.
Noire, keep Inigo in check for me. If your mother ever lacks words of comfort for you, just remember that your father-in-law is proud of you. You don't need any magic talismans or spells to be strong, you know. Your weakness is all in your head, and if Inigo doesn't remind you of that every day, he'll have something else coming. I hope that you and Olivia will get along well. Perhaps she and your husband could teach you to dance, I'm certain you'll be splendid!
Severa, you are a wonderful girl, regardless of what anybody else says. I know a father shouldn't play favorites, but you were one of the first I came to think of as my own. You are not your mother, and never will be. Your skills simply lie in other areas. I trust you'll keep your tongue sharp to whip everybody up into shape should they ever grow soft. I will forever suport you in your endeavors, and if you ever want a place to shed tears in private, my shoulder will always be open to you.
Gerome, I trust you will take good care of Lucina. Your level head is the firmest foundation anybody could ask for, and I implore you to use it to everyone's benefit. We have fought fate and won, now the world is yours to shape as you will. Take a moment to relax, you deserve it. Now take your uncle in-law twice-removed's advice and open up some. Underneath that mask and cold demeanor is a warm heart, I know.
Yarne, I want you to know that I believe wholeheartedly that the future of the Taguel is safe in your hands. You've come a long way from the timid man I first met, and I think your mother and father have much to be proud of. I look forward to discovering what the future holds for you, especially now that the threat of the Risen has been dealth with.
Nah, I wanted you for a daughter the moment we met. And no, I'm not saying that because of your height. Don't take others' perspectives to heart. You're a mature young woman already, and I know that anybody who thinks otherwise has another thing coming. It pains me to think that you will outlive the rest of us by so long however. Stay with your mother and keep in touch with Tiki, though. As they will no doubt tell you, it's the moments, not the centuries, that make life worth living. When I get back, I'll get right back to working on my cooking. I promise you a personal feast! (Lastly, I have to admit I am dying to know what you and Yarne's children will look like.)
Laurent, you've your mother's brilliant mind at your disposition, as well as your father's creativity. I know you will make amazing use of these gifts and bring great things to the world. As for the show you and I had planned, there's no need to hold off on my account. I'll be sure to see it after I get back, though. In the meantime, I hope you'll make apt use of your magic. Perhaps you could add your own show to the dancing that Olivia plans on doing?
It sounds like I'm making a full show here.
Cynthia, you've grown to become a force to be reckoned with. Always remember what I've told you, and put the needs of others first. Be a Justice Alliance Hero, like you said. I'm proud of you already, but the sky is the limit, and with the wings you ride, I'm sure you won't hesitate to rise to the challenge. You've certainly convinced me that you are worthy of being called Chrom's daughter, and it's an honor for me to call you my niece-in-law twice removed.
Kjelle, I trust that you will use my advice to the fullest, as I have already seen you do. Soon there won't be a living soul, man or woman, who could stand before your spear. Keep working on your riding, too, though I have a feeling Sully will ensure that even without my saying so. I am sure that a knight of your skill and strength will find a place among Ylisse's finest. Though, what are the Shepherds if not that? You learn quickly, and I am proud of you too, and looking forward to hearing of your future feats.
Brady, I'm sorry I won't be there to mentor you like I promised. I'll be sure to put twice the effort into it when I return, though, to make up for lost time. Keep at your violin, too, though I doubt you would have any reason to put it down. If you would, please consider joining forces with Olivia and Inigo too, dancing is always best when accompanied by music, and the sound you produce is without equal.
Aversa, my sister. I trust your mind is as sharp as ever. Ylisse needs minds like yours to keep it in balance. I know that many would not trust you, but let it be known that I would put my life in your hands without hesitation. You have the potential to create such goodness, and I am sorry that I will miss your new beginning. Your help could always be used in Olivia's theater, the courts, among the shephers, or anywhere else. You have the whole world ahead of you, and I pray that you will not squander this oportunity. I am sure you have a sarcastic retort for my prattling, and I am sorry that I don't know you well enough to guess what it is. When I return, you and I will spend some time together as a family. My doors will always be open to you, my sword will always be ready to help you, my cup will always be raised in your honor, and my word will always vouch for your trustworthiness.
Lucina, I remember that a while back, you told Chrom and I that you adopted the name Marth in the hopes that the king of old could grant you even a fraction of his strength and wisdom. I have seen you fight, and I have seen the drive in your eyes, and I can tell you that you matched Marth drop for drop in every way, and are worthier of that name than any other soul alive today. The world would have been doomed without your interference, and that is why I chose you to stand beside Chrom and I as we faced Grima in the end. You rose above the life of strife, hardship, death and horror that the failure of our generation left you with, and smote destiny itself. I know that you will be modest and say that you could not have done it without me, But that is true of all of us. You, not I or even Chrom, were the heart and strength of the Shepherds on this journey. I know that you are even now feeling out of place and considering leaving us, but I cannot let you do that. You are destined to remain by Chrom's side. If you ever doubt it, you merely have to look in a mirror and see the crest in your eye to know it is true. You proved yourself more worthy of that mark than anybody else, and I am proud to even think of you like a daughter. If I return and find out that you have disappeared, I promise you I will not rest until I have dragged you back.
I have left a note for you personally along with this letter. It is for your eyes only until you see its contents. After that, it is your choice. Regardless, I know that in the future, a young exalt will take on your name, and pray for a fraction of your own strength, and I know that even that little fraction will be enough to keep the world safe.
Chrom, my first friend. I cannot thank you enough for everything you have given me. You're probably thinking that I already have, and I suppose it may seem that way. You gave me a home, and I protected the future. Yet still, I feel like the debt I owe you for your trust could never be repaid in full. I am happy that, with Owain and Morgan's marriage, you and I will become brothers on paper as well as in arms. If I cannot make it in time, I ask that you be the one to walk my daughter down the aisle in my stead. Hopefully that won't be necessary, though.
By the way, I recommend you look in the field where we first met. It seems like the likeliest place for me to reappear. If I'm not there, do not lose hope. There's no telling where I could be. I know only one thing, and that's that I will be trying my hardest to come back as quickly as I can.
I love all of you more than I can express, children, siblings and Olivia. I promise that I will see you all as soon as I can, and that we will all grow old happily together. We still have many adventures ahead of us, and I would hate to miss them!
With all of my love,
P.S. Look inside my bed roll. I bought yukatas for the hot spring contest winners and Morgan. Don't worry, I could afford it.
I thought about what we talked about at the hot spring, about what the people would think upon seeing you so close to Chrom, and how to deal with that. I believe that the best answer is also the simplest one.
Tell them the truth.
This parting note is from the player avatar in Fire Emblem: Awakening to the units as I put them together. It's more about my own personal feelings towards the characters than anything the avatar himself would have said, but I found that our personalities matched up pretty well, so it works most of the time.
whats with lucy and chrom at the end?
wow! this is amazing!!!!
so what are the pairings you did for this run
This is poetry, my friend
That was beautiful! And if I may, exactly what I felt the tactician would have done. With a mind that rivaled men and gods alike I would expect no less.
Again. Well done sir! You are a fantastic writer.
Thanks! I don't really think it's worthy of all that, though...
After talking with Severa some, though, I think I would rather have put Inigo with her instead... Still, I like the pairing I ended up with in the end!
