Tributes

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 17, 2015, 4:10 PM

Before a stryx is permitted to breed, it must prove its merit by completing three sacred rights, the Tributes to the gods of Wyvera, Father Daius, Mother Nokt and the great star god, Galyx! Only then will they receive the Eye of Galyx, the symbol of their worthiness to mate and bear children.

General Rules

You may have a maximum of up to 3 Stryx in Tributes entries receiving their
Eye of Galyx.
Additional stryxes past 3 may be included, but they will not receive their Eye of Galyx and should be marked in the work's description and not receiving the Eye of Galyx.

You have two options to choose from, depending on your personal story for your Stryx, whether they are wild or have a rider.
Regular tributes require a rider present alongside the stryx, one rider per participating stryx.
If you take the "wild" riderless Stryx options in Tributes, there is still a maximum limit of 3 total Stryx performing tributes, two Stryx for completing Tribute, and one companion Stryx that will not count for the Tribute. Any additional Stryx in the image may only count towards AP.

You can not re-use or recolor Tribute images! All Tribute entries must be original.
Tributes cannot count as a hunting/fishing image. This applies to ALL Stryx in the image.

Tributes must all be completed before your Stryx can breed!
Inbred Stryx who suffer from Crippled Wings or Brittle Bone Syndrome can not complete Tributes, and can not be bred!
If your Stryx is Blind it must complete Blindness Training BEFORE it can participate in Tributes!

Tourmaline: Tribute To Daius by Aiggy

Tribute to Daius

(Rider Option) This Tribute occurs only at early dawn, meant to please Daius as he wakes from his night-time slumber. It is a feat of strength, speed and stamina, as Stryx and their riders race first on land, then through the sky. First, as the race begins on foot, riders run alongside their Stryx for several yards toward the edge of a cliff. Just before they reach this cliff, the rider must swing up into the saddle in time for their Stryx to take off. They then tuck their wings and race to the bottom of the valley following the cliff-face, before unfurling their wings, leveling out, and then climbing thermals and air currents as they crest the other side of the miles-long valley. After this, the race is on, and a course is marked for Stryx and riders to follow. Riders can be highly competitive during this Tribute race, and there is risk of injury and sometimes death, accidental or otherwise.

(Wild Option)
When wild Stryx are old enough to fly, they'll often form pairs or small flocks in the morning hours, racing and competing on the ground or in the air to prove their strength and skill. Some can be seen competing with their parents or other elder Stryx, or will seek out other young dragons, instead.

Requirements: Full body, cleanly lined/sketched, fully colored, with background, Stryx and rider or companion both visible. Can be depicted from any time of morning/daytime, in any environment, so long as it loosely fits the Tribute's description. (Written Tributes must be at least 1000 words long.)

Tribute to Nokt

(Rider Option) This Tribute occurs only at night, under a full moon, when Nokt is certain to be watching. It is a test of control, grace, and aerial skill. Riders and their Stryx take turns performing complex ground or aerial acrobatics, leaping, jumping, and/or flying, and are judged by their Elders based on who performs with the least mistakes and the most beauty and creativity.

(Wild Option) During the night, under a full moon, wild Stryx often become amorous and exciteable after they've reached sexual maturity. Something about the bright light of the full moon moves them to pair off, either as mated pairs, or flirtatious adolescents, performing beautiful acrobatic, and sometimes synchronized displays and dances, in the air or on the ground. Some will even fly high into the clouds, lock talons, and plummet toward the earth, spinning all the while, in a harrowing display of trust and cooperation, before unfurling their wings and flying apart before they reach the ground.

Requirements: Full body, cleanly lined/sketched, fully colored, with background, Stryx and rider or companion both visible. Can be depicted at any time of night, in any environment, so long as it loosely fits the Tribute's description. Moon, if visible, must be full. (Written Tributes must be at least 1000 words long.)

Tourmaline: Tribute To Galyx by Aiggy

Tribute to Galyx

(Rider Option) This Tribute can occur at any time of day or night, and it is a time for hunting and feasting, when Stryx and their riders have fully bonded and are ready to become official providers and protectors for their people. It is a celebration of life and the plenty which Galyx provides to all the universe. This is a group hunt that can take place either on land, or in the sky. Groups of three Stryx and their riders are put together and given instructions for where to hunt and what they must bring back. They must not return until they have successfully killed their assigned prey animal, which will be added to the grand feast.

(Wild Option) When wild Stryx become full-fledged adults, ready to take on a life without the support of their parents, they must learn to cooperate with others outside their family units for food. Hunting in pairs or larger numbers is always more successful than hunting alone, and takes a great deal of intelligence and skill when it comes to catching swift or slippery prey. Especially when it comes time to find a mate, a Stryx must prove they can provide for their new family not just alone, but with the help of their mate.

Requirements: Full body, cleanly lined/sketched, fully colored, with background, depicting your Stryx and rider or companion, as well as a prey animal actively being hunted or captured/eaten. (Written Tributes must be at least 1000 words long.)

The Eye of Galyx:

This is the award you will be given when you've finally completed all Tributes! It is a symbol of Galyx's approval and blessing, so that your Stryx may now pass on its legacy and breed.

Is it possible to do wild stryx and tame stryx tributes in the same image?

Yes- But the wild stryx would still need a companion that is not getting the EoG. For example, on stryx getting a rider tributes, an wild tribute bird, and a companion for the wild tribute bird.

Can you still use companion stryx if you aren’t doing the wild option?

Well, if you were to use a companion stryx instead of a rider in the tributes, that would inherently be doing the wild option.

For tributes there needs to be one other bird present. No exceptions.

If you have two stryxes in a wild tribute image, one will be receiving their Eye of Galyx, the other will not. To get one stryx through wild tribs, you need at least two in the image, the participant + a companion stryx.

Up to two stryxes may participate in a single wild tribute image and the non-participant companion stryx pictured will count for both.

Question, the tributes should be linked on the stryx original picture (on the tributes reply) to be judged?

so I have a couple questions! 'v'/ say I have 2 Stryx right? if I do the trials with them together does it count for both of em? and I'll need to include a third Stryx if I choose not to have a rider, correct?

and if the rider thing is right, then does it have to be MY Stryx as the third one? sorry if these are answered clearly in the journal but I'm kinda slow at this stuff and I'm new to Stryx in general eheh,,,

I'm not an admin, but I've been here for a bit so I'm pretty sure I can answer this :D If you have two stryx that both belong to you, then in order for them to both complete the tributes, you're either going to need two riders for the rider option, or one other stryx that will not get the EoG trophy and will only act as a guide for the wild option. This guide stryx can belong to you, I believe you can also use a starter, or you can use someone else's stryx, granted you ask them first, of course C:

You can draw three stryx in the image for the wild prompt, but only two of them will get the EoG trophy, yes :)

Tributes should be in color but the medium does not need to be digital. Traditional art submissions that fit the prompt requirements are very acceptable.

Have a question.  I'm new to Dracostrix and just received a Cara.  From my understanding they're ground runners.  I'm sure it's here someplace , but haven't found it.  How do they do the training/ tributes that require flying?

The only difference would really be in prompts 3 and 4. The Training and Tributes says for Prompt 3 that the stryx should be "leaping into the air/jumping across a stream, or over some form of obstacle." Prompt 4 that says "For Runner types, you may draw them pulling something heavy across the ground with their jaws, or hitched up with a harness, pulling a rider, sled, or other heavy weight."

The rest of the prompts are more or less the same for Runners or Flighted types.

You'll have to wait until the import is uploaded to EyeOfGalyx before you can submit the training to be judged and approved. We have to add the training trophy to the uploaded import so until that's up, the stryx can't be trained.

ok so I have a question. When doing tributes with riders, does every stryx have to have a rider? Like say I want to do tributes for two of my stryx, but they have the same rider, do I have to make two separate tribute pictures/stories?

With rider tributes, each stryx must have a rider. You can create and use multiple rider characters though in order to depict three of your stryxes simultaneously receiving tributes with the rider option. If it's important for your personal lore to have the stryxes each have their tributes with that one specific rider they'll have to be done separately, but it's perfectly fine to borrow a rider or make an extra to have them complete tributes together.

You can have up to three stryxes getting tributes in one image with the rider option, but you aren't required to do all three, three is just the upper limit, it's perfectly fine to draw tributes for one stryx alone.

Question regarding trainers in training and other Stryx in training.
so for training you can have other Stryx in the images, does that Stryx have to complete training before?
im not the greatest at drawing humanoids so I was wondering if I could use my other preowned Stryx in it. I’m not sure if it has completed training but I will check.

Hey! For the Nokt tribute, is it okay to depict our rider and Stryx dancing with each other?  I've had this idea for a while now and I just want to make sure it would be alright.
Thanks!~

I didn't really see this listed anywhere, but I have a question about Runners and tributes. That is, how would they go about preforming the tributes? Especially the tribute to Diaus. Maybe I looked it over, sorry if I did. ^^'

There is plenty of raptor tribes that involve racing down a cliff or any time during the race (Tribute to Daius is a race so you dont have to always have the first part of the race, it can be in the middle or the end of the race to count.) For Galyx, it is hunting which can be performed by any stryx, and for Noct, you can dance on the ground as well in the air. Maybe the rider gets more involved in the dance?

As long as it follows the prompt, the tributes are still pretty open to what you want to do. ~Alri

Ahh, thank you! I offered to do 6 tributes for a geno in return and the Stryx that person needed the tributes done for were raptors. So I wasn't really sure on how to approach that. I understand now though! Thanks again!
