Many Stryx breeders aim to create special and beautiful lines, not just to profit from selling the chicks, but to raise up the very best of their breed to compete in the annual Arena Shows!

There are three different disciplines that a Stryx can compete in, and play to its natural strengths.
Each time your Stryx trains or competes, it will gain Pride, and eventually rise in the ranks!

Stryx must have completed Basic Training.
If your Stryx is blind they must receive Blindness Training before they can compete!

Dressage

  • This discipline marks a Stryx's ability to listen to and collaborate with their rider, to perform under pressure, and to show the strictest control over movements, transitions, and emotions. Not every Stryx has the temperament or self-discipline to contain themselves, much less to pay sharp attention to the silent commands their rider must give them through subtle gestures and physical cues. Will your Stryx have what it takes?

The following Stryx breeds are more naturally adept to this discipline - Corva, Harpia, Raptor, Hawk, Cara, Casua

---------------------------------

Requirements:
Draw or write your Stryx  equipped with show tack and carrying their rider, performing in the Arena. Movements and stances should be graceful and proud.
Studying movements of horses and performing birds such as peacocks and chickens may provide some needed inspriation!
(full body, colored, background, with rider)
(literature = 1000 word minimum)

Rules:
Stryx must never take flight and remain firmly on the ground throughout the entire performance.
Stryx and Rider must both be outfitted in standard show garb.
Rider can not speak or make large gestures, and should remain contained and steady on the Stryx's back.
The performance should give the illusion that Stryx and rider are mentally in sync, as though no commands are being given.

Bonuses:
Breed Bonus - +5% chance of success if the Stryx is an adept breed
Shimmer - +2% chance of success (if applied to your entry)
Rank Bonus - (see below)

Penalties:
-5% chance of success if Arena appropriate background is not depicted
-2% chance of success if Stryx and Rider are not properly outfitted in show garb.
-3% chance of success if Stryx is depicted taking flight

Flourish

  • The Flourish is a fantastic display of a Stryx's acrobatic skill and flexibility both in the air and on the ground, as well as it's capability of careful focus and strength. Smaller breeds of Stryx are often more skilled than their larger, heavier relatives, able to perform death-defying aerial stunts, and gravity-defying leaps over obstacles without the aid of their wings. This discipline requires an energetic, intelligent Stryx, with a mindfulness for the safety of their rider. Can yours measure up?

The following Stryx breeds are more naturally adept to this discipline - Tyto, Hawk, Chiro, Corva, Raptor

---------------------------------

Requirements:
Draw or write your Stryx equipped with show tack and either performing aerial stunts, or leaping over obstacles in the Arena.
(full body, colored, background, with rider)
(literature = 1000 word minimum)

Rules:
Stryx must never take flight while performing jumps, and their wings should be held firmly at their sides.
Aerial displays must be graceful, complex, and precise.

Rank Bonus (see below)

Penalties:
-5% chance of success if Arena appropriate background is not depicted
-2% chance of success if Stryx is a large, heavy breed (Gryph, Harpia, Lycan)
-3% chance of success if Stryx and Rider are not properly outfitted in show garb.

Conformation

  • This is a very basic but very important part of Showing a Stryx, as it must show that it is in peak health and is an excellent representative of its breed. Judges check the whole Stryx over, checking for any blemishes or parasites like Stryx Mites, and they also pay close attention to the legs to make certain there are no signs of soring or other injuries.

All breeds have equal potential in this discipline!
---------------------------------

Requirements:
Draw or write your Stryx equipped with only a show bridle and rope, posing proudly for the judges!
(full body, colored, background, rider optional)
(literature = 1000 word minimum)

Rules:
Stryx must stand still and alert in a proud pose OR must walk around the Arena being lead by their rider, and must be equipped with only a bridle and rope.
Rider must be outfitted in standard show garb, if shown.
Rider can not speak or make large gestures, and should be holding the Stryx's lead rope, with the Stryx following calmly.
The Stryx should appear healthy and in good spirits, not restless or expressing poor behavior, and should move easily and gracefully when they walk.
