Breeding

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 18, 2015, 2:53 PM

Breeding your Stryx is a big decision! Here are a few guidelines to follow when you've decided it's time to start having hatchlings.

RULES

-You may sell/trade/give away breeding slots for whatever price you like, so long as your Stryx has its Eye of Galyx.

-No slot deals can be made if your Stryx is not ready to breed right away, with the exception of art deals made directly to help your Stryx achieve its EoG!

-Omega Stryx are limited to 5 breeding slots initially. You may submit up to 3 Breeding Requests per month. However, there are art goals available in the Bonuses section, detailing how you can obtain extra breeding slots when the initial 5 have been used up.

-You, as the player, can only submit up to 3 Breeding Requests per month, and you can only participate in 2 breedings requested by others (split clutches, etc.)

If we catch people trying to cheat this system by "gifting" partial or full clutches to someone who's used up all their breedings for the month, you will run the risk of being suspended from breeding all-together for a probationary period of time. Repeat offenses could lead to being banned from the group, so please be honest and follow the rules. Breeding limitations are in place to make sure the value of your Stryx are not driven into the ground, and to make certain people are making good breeding choices.

You can not claim breeding slots to any Stryx, geno/import/etc. that does not have its EOG, regardless of any breeding deals made for its parents.

You may submit breeding requests for Stryx that you own, but you may NOT write out breeding approvals to yourself. This is meant to prevent abuse of breeding slots to Stryx that are sold to new owners.

HOW TO BREED

It's actually very simple!
First, you must complete all TRIBUTES for your Stryx, and earn the Eye of Galyx trophy.
Once the trophy has been posted to your Stryx's Import sheet, you may breed.
Once you've decided which Stryx you want your own to be bred to, go to BREEDING REQUESTS and fill out the form.
You MUST have BREEDING APPROVAL from the owner(s) of each Stryx, if they are not your own.
Make certain BOTH parents have their Eye of Galyx!
An admin will roll a clutch and post genos in response to your request.

Keep track of Breeding Slots HERE!

GENOS

Once you have your clutch, it's time to design your hatchlings!
Once you've designed them using the appropriate .PSD file, go to DESIGN APPROVAL.
An admin will look over your design to make sure everything looks right, and will either ask for changes, or will add your design to a list of approvals, ready to be uploaded.

INBREEDING

Draco Stryx are particularly sensitive to the consequences of inbreeding. If a pair of Stryx share the same parents, and/or grandparents, the following can occur:
Brittle Bone Syndrome, Crippled or Malformed Wings, Blindness, Stillbirth, and Infertility

Infertility actually does not mean that a Stryx is not allowed to breed. Sometimes, an infertile Stryx is still capable of producing hatchlings, except that the chances are heavily stacked against it. If you wish to breed your infertile Stryx, please be aware that the chance of producing eggs is very small. Clutches will NOT be re-rolled.

If your Stryx has brittle bones or dysfunctional wings, they can not compete in Arena Battles or Races, and can not earn their Eye of Galyx (can not be bred). However, they can still be useful Scavengers and participate in Arena Shows.

SLOT RULES

When selling breeding slots to your Stryx, you are allowed to make certain minor rules, which the group will help to enforce.

Examples would be...

- No Inbreeding Allowed
- A specific type of baby must go back to the parent owner (ONLY for Split/Shared Slots)
- Tag parent Stryx owners when posting your Breeding Request

-----------------

You can not claim breeding slots to any Stryx, geno/import/etc. that does not have its EOG, regardless of any breeding deals made for its parents.

You may submit breeding requests for Stryx that you own, but you may NOT write out breeding approvals to yourself. This is meant to prevent abuse of breeding slots to Stryx that are sold to new owners.

Once you sell a slot, you no longer have any control over the resulting clutch, except in the case of split slots. You may not request an admin to decease or alter the geno of any clutch result (i.e. asking for a dom marking to be changed to recessive.)

For split slots, you must make ALL terms clear before the person pays money or trades goods for the slot, and if your terms are that a certain type of geno must go to you, regardless of whether that geno is a result in the clutch, the clutch must still be rolled as a split, and not a full.

what does stillborn mean?

Stillborn is a lethal mutation produced through inbreeding. The geno can't be used at all- no transferring, lofting, or uploading.

I found small error in my bird breeding tracker docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

Her original names was Anastasia but it got never changed to Voidress 8788. And also there is now 6 slots used not 3.

How often do the breeding admins log on to do breedings?
It seems like they don't get on very often (or at least don't roll often) and it causes major backlog and stress on themselves to just let it sit and pile up.
Has the group considered hiring another (or multiple) more active roller?

Hello!

We did recently get a new breeding admin.  And unlike the user below claims, they do not take months to roll.
On average they are rolled once a week.  Occasionally every two weeks, but that was prior to our additional admin.

Thank you for explaining! I am glad you guys have another admin to help with things (I know how bad it feels to have backlog OTL)
I did sort of ignore the other user as I know you guys used to roll every week and a half or so before, and they were
over-exaggerating out of frustration I think.

I do hope you guys have a smooth training and transition with the new admin, and I hope they feel welcome on the team!
Thank you for your hard work and getting back to me <3

It can often takes months for admins to roll and no  they don't seem to want to hire more. I do believe this group needs more admins and I've seen some quite good applications be ignored. Its a big issue here in DracoStryx!

It means you get approval to a sire and a dam, not one or the other.

is there a limit to how many times I can give someone permission to use my stryx in breeding in a certain time period? If I had 5 slots open, would I be able to sell them all within a week/month?

you can sell them how fast or slow you want as long as it remains within the limit of how many slots the Stryx has ~Alri

Hello! I have a small question about breeding slots... I had a breeding approval from another player for as long as I can remember, I didn't used it because I wanted to work on my birds before doing so. Though, I realized only today that the bird's owner decided to put the bird down (the import is still accessible, but it’s written deceased with his name)... does this impact the breeding slot? Is it still available or I can't use it anymore? :s

You can still use the slot as long at it was written before the bird was listed as Deceased :)

Sorry to but in, but what does it mean for a bird to be Deceased? How does it happen? Does the owner choose or is it a game play mechanic?

It's fine!

So a bird being deceased means slots can't be written out to them, they can't accumulate AP, and they can't be in activity rolls. For all intents and purposes, they are out of the game.

It can be owner chosen, though most prefer to release to the wild, as it nets you baubles to release to the wild, and not to mark them as deceased. Usually it only happens if the player gets kicked out of the group for misconduct or something like that.

It can be for personal lore too, which would be owner marking it as deceased

Is it possible that the breedings stats are different from the updated roller? I tried a silkenx silken pair and keep getting velvets, which according to the stats shouldn´t be possbile :o

So I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. My omega can breed 5 times a month but I can only post 3 breedings a month, and can only do 2 split breedings a month altogether?

Do the 3 breeding requests belong to that one stryx or can I post 3 more requests for a different stryx pair?

What if my Stryx is Alpha giving it 10 breeding slots, I can only post 3 breedings a month all together? or does it change?

Sorry I'm new and want to be a breeder because that sounds awesome!

no the Omega can only breed 5 times total. you as a user gets 3 breeding slots a month, doesn't have to be the same birds used in either breedings. Omegas have a high risk of empty nests, so many level up their birds to alpha before breeding them. All Stryx however must complete their tributes before they can breed.

is there a lineage checker for inbreeding or do we have to check ourselves?

The checking is manual, though I think I should mention that DracoStryx reckons inbreeding as having the same stryx appear twice in a given chick's lineage, which I know can be a bit different if you're coming into stryx from a group like Tokotas where all three generations from both parents' lineages are factored in.

Basically, a stryx breeding will only be inbred if the resulting chicks will have one or more stryxes show up twice in their lineage, like this stryx has, Camden 8938. We don't have any invisible inbreeding, ancestors that don't show in the chick's lineage don't count towards the chick being inbred, so when vetting a breeding pair you only need to look at the first two generations in the parent stryx's lineage to determine if the clutch will be inbred or not.

This stryx for instance, Blind Cobbler's Thumb 6718, his Sire and Dam both have Corinth 030 in their lineages but Corinth is the Sire's SS and the Dam's DDS so Corinth only shows up once in Cobbler's lineage and consequently he is not inbred (he's merely blind because he's mine and I marked him such for lore purposes).

That makes sense?

Would it still be considered inbreeding if the shared ancestor is on the very last row of lineage (three letters) for one or both of the stryx being bred?

I noticed that the breeding roller on the dracostryx site sometimes spits out random Nokt genes, maybe something to look into if that´s what admins use to roll :)
