Hey Everyone, ~DR here after another Convention. So lets get to the recap!

I was at Planet Comic Con and as usual had a great time with my friends from Wichita and the Kansas City area, though it rained the entire weekend. I had lost my big, BIG telescoping art display at Little Apple Comic Expo back in march, which was a bit of a setback, however I did order a couple of Vertical Banners for Marshal Star that look amazing!

Overall the convention wasn't financially impressive (never has been) though this year I went and bought my own table and didn't go with another group. I was joined by Triple Diamond Cosplay (www.facebook.com/Triplediamond…) as they helped me run my booth on Saturday and Sunday., Even kicked me out so I could get up and walk around, see some of the other artists. I also spent some money on several original art prints from fellow artists, (and one sexy Morgan). This is why I love cons, I get to network and see what people are working on.

Marshal Star's debut wasn't as big, but considering the current environment involving new material against established material, it's an uphill battle. I'm still working on Marshal Star, as Chapter 2 and three are in the works and Chapter 4 is being written.

I've also decided to give the Studios Patreon another shot (link above, yeah where it says PATREON). I'm offering some new cool things for Supporters. Heck if you support my work and don't get a chance to go to any of the conventions I'm planning in the near future, then please do check out the Patreon for current rewards and of course the sexy Dragons and Maidens series I'm working on as part of my own original series of art and prints. Not to mention other art series I'm working on between Marshal Star updates.

I also broke down and used some of my profit from PCC to purchase a new drawing Tablet. This one is a Ugee Pen Display Tablet and it should be here Friday! Here is the product page: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D… This has been a piece of equipment I've been meaning to get for years, however Cinteq has appeared to corner the market on such equipment, with their prices being anywhere from 1500 to 2100 dollars! However, on some recommendation from some artists I met at PCC this year, I've decided to invest in this wonderful piece of equipment. Ugee actually has some amazingly affordable tablets and pen display tablets. I might have to modify my display a bit, or finally switch out my first flat-screen monitor for this new tablet. I'll know more come Friday when I get a chance to mess around with it.

Considering that this will help with my hand-eye disconnect when I draw with my current Wacom Intuos Pro 3. It's not terrible, but my pen stabilzation isn't enough for when I'm drawing with it. Just a minor thing I've been fighting for years. Oh but I am soooo excited. I'll be doing some more stuff with it, on it, all over with it, and of course with the Patreon back on, I'm excited to get to work.

The important thing to remember, for anyone who's getting a tablet or thinking of a pen-display tablet, is that it doesn't matter how good the tools are, if you don't have a good understanding of the fundamentals, you'll still have problems. The best analogy is this: If you're a carpenter, it doesn't matter if you have the best tools money can buy, if your blueprints are bad, your building is going to be bad.

So yeah, so very excited right now!

So to recap: Convention Season is upon us, Marshal Star is published and for sale, DR-Studios Patreon is up, and I bought a new Pen Display Tablet.

That's it for me gang, night!

Later!

~DR

Devious Journal Entry

Hey Guys!

You know what they say?  Don't draw angry.  Okay so no one says that, but after the rather stressful weekend I've had with work and some other issues, I'm going to be livestreaming tonight at about 6 PM  Central Time.  What will I be drawing, why the latest Update for Marshal Star of course!  Tuesdays Update is nearly done line wise and then afterwards I'm going to be fixing some shading and edits on a previous page.  Heck we are soo close to Chapter 1's Physical release I can smell that sweet sweet ink.  So check out www.youtube.com/channel/UCZvA_… tonight, or search for Drako R on YouTube, and I'll be drawing all up in there.  Join and hang out to ask questions or pester me as I try to draw some cool action.

So if you didn't know, Marshal Star is a Sci-fi, Fantasy, Western, Space Opera that is my own project, I've been working on it with a friend and associate who is officially my Co-Creator at this point, one mr Declan Burke, and we have a Patreon where I post updates before their update as well as some other cool stuff like sketch progress, my process, some script reveals, and work on upcoming prints.  So check out Marshal Star (marshalstar.thecomicseries.com) and the Patreon (www.patreon.com/MarshalStar).

Okay that's out of the way here's some other information.  I'm trying for some more Conventions this year, and dropping a few, saddly.  On my docket for the month of March are Little Apple Comic Expo and then Lebanon Mega Con.  After that I have Planet Comic Con in Late April, followed by Smallville Comic Con in June.  July's a bit in the air right now, depending on G-Fest and Anime Fest Wichita.  And another important thing I'm doing is that starting this year I am cutting mack on a lot of my fan art production and focusing more on Marshal Star.

On that note heres some information for you all.  As much as I like drawing fan art of the stuf I enjoy, I'm feeling that most of the industry, specifically Convention industry, is very heavily focused to fan art of very popular items.  I wont' deny I've capitalized on this myself with my Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla work, but I'm also a fan of those franchises and have been drawing them since forever.  More importantly, I've avoided doing stuff for widely popular items such a Five Nights at Freddies, Undertail, and Kingdom Hearts.  Though KH has Disney backing their copyright on them (and Disney is rediculous), that doesn't stop it from behing capitalized.  I mean I could do an Undertale or FNAF picture and get a lot of sales out of it.  But I don't think that's really fair to my talent and what I can do with  my skills.  I'm more interested in showing my original work, Specifically Marshal Star, or any original work I might do with Chrystar, or with the Atheos Monsters in my work with Winter&Gaia.

Long story short, DR Studios at conventions, starting 2017, is going to be focusing on my own work and original content and ideas.  This won't stop me from doing art and things that I enjoy when I get an itch for them, but most of my pressure and drive is going towards these original projects.  So #showmeyourOW

Later for now!

Hey everyone, DR here.

So everything going forward got some great news!  Well somewhat news but still cool.  I started a webcomic after being out of comic arts for about.. what?  8 years?  nearly 10?  (I blame Grad School and mild depression).  Anyways I have a new one out, and it should be pretty cool for you all.

Please check out the Patreon, and the Comic and give some support.  We're updating twice a week unless I can devote more time and MAYBE increase the update schedule then.  But for now. it's Tuesday-Thursday updates.

The Patreon link above goes to Marshal Star's Patreon, and the comic link is here:  marshalstar.thecomicseries.com…

The Marshal Star Twitter is here, so go ahead and follow us there too!:  twitter.com/Marshal_Star

So yeah, Marshal Star, it's been a fun ride in getting back into doing sequentials, so stop by and give us a look and some support for more Sci-Fantasy crazyness.

Hey everyone, how's things?!

Con season has been a bit slow this year.  Despite going to several more, it hasn't been a sgood.  Though I do have some personal hypothesis as to why, that's for a later rant.

Anyways, on to the con reports!

G Fest was the latest one, an as always it is a consistent blast to go.  So many of my fellow Kaiju artists, fans, and producers of kaiju material all in one place just boggles my mind still.  It's a massive family I get to see for a family reunion once a year.  I didn't get any merchandise other than art prints with other artists, including some stuff from :iconkaijusamurai:, who's if you ever meet him in person, Matt is a highly enthusiastic individual with a love for the fandom and the material.  It's always fun to talk with him.

SoDak was fun, always a good time to see my family in the area and my first Con Family as well.  Everyone is welcoming and I enjoy talking with all the artists and convention attendees.  And I get to check in on my grandma too!

Prior to that was Smallville Con.  And dear GEEK that thing has exploded in the last two years.  First year was an amazing time, and I missed last years due to a schedule conflict.  However this year was still fun, and I was in a heavily trafficked area, but did not make much.  Was able to pay for my hotel at least D:!  Although I did get my portfolio reviewed by Mark Winters, who gave me some great advice and it's nice to get a professional to review your work.  Even though it's not Magic the Gathering quality, it's still good go get that feed back.

In front of Smallville was Anime Alpha X.  Which may be a convention I avoid.  Nothing against the show itself, just some behind the scenes things I saw and the collection of artists and vendors there were a bit... underwhelming.  To be honest the con was not very well advertised in Sioux Falls.  Not like Siouxper Con (which was aaaaaaaaaamazing for a first year).

Planet Comic Con was a bit of a let down, considering the size of the venu.  But then again the size was part of the reason I didn't do very well.  Oh I had a lot of fun with friends, don't get me wrong, I don't get to hang out with the Wichita crew that much anyways, and there are a handful of cons I get to see my friends down there.  However next year I think I'm getitng my own table and promoting my new project.

So, what's the new Project you ask?!  Well if you click on the Patreon Link above you'll notice it no longer goes to ~DR Studios Patreon, instead it's going to a project called Marshal Star.  What is Marshal Star?  Marshal Star is a new webcomic that I am the creative lead for and main artist.  I'm joined by Declan Burke, as my writer and the two of us are tearing into a massive world that we built for it.  What's the genre?  Instead of the Giant Monster kaiju genre that I'm a large fan of, it's a bit smaller in scale so far.  Marshal Star is a Science-Fantasy, Western, Space Opera that's reminiscent of some of the older anime/manga from the mid 90's in style.  I am VERY excited about the project and we have been working on it since February, and getting it all ready for an August Release.

Heck if you check out the Patreon and support at the $25 range you can get a look at the comic a week early!  If you guys missed the teaser Comic this summer at my venues, then you can get to see the full thing before it goes live to the rest of the internet!  So stop on by, check out exclusive Patreon Content such as character sketches, page thumbnails and WIPs, and a proper introduction to the characters before anyone else!

Guns.  Magic.  The Frontier.  Marshal Star!

Hey everyone, long time no see!  Sorry about that but I have had a lot of stuff going on in getting con season going and some other projects as well that have eaten up my time but you’ve probably seen some of them going on already.

First off…

CON SCHEDULE

I’ve got a pretty packed Con Schedule this Year.

First off I was at Siouxper Con in Sioux Falls back in April.  First Year Con and it was AMAZING, had my doubts at first, but the staff there was one of the best I have ever dealt with at ANY Con.  Major props to them and I will make that a regular trip.

This weekend, starting Friday 5-20 is Planet Comic Con in Kansas City.  A bit closer to home so a bit easier on my pocket book.

Then June’s got some Jam packed Goodness.

Anime Alpha first weekend in June

Smallville Comic Con the weekend after that.

SoDak Con two weekends after that.

Then July has my big Fan-Trip, where I go to G Fest in Chicago.

August has two:

TF Expo in Wichita first weekend in August, and then Currently planning on flying up to Brony Can to meet up with some other professionals for some projects we are working on and planning on launching in August.

Here’s an image!  scontent.fmci1-2.fna.fbcdn.net…

PROJECTS

On the note of Projects, I have some nice rivalries going on with Jeff Delgato and Spring Art Studios to be concluded at SoDak Con.  What’s the challenge?  I’ll post that when my entry is finished.  Needless to say it involves a famous Monster you all know is dear to my heart.

Major news though, I’m working with both an Editor and Writer to bring to life a new project that started on the backburner and is now getting ready to push forward.  It’s a Webcomic going live in August, though you’ve already seen some art for it.

The comic is called Marshal Star, and it’s a science-fantasy western with a space opera background.  Basically Sword and Sorcery in Space.  You’ve got Magic Guns, Fantasy races, star ships, shoot outs, it has slowly been turning into all sorts of fun.  For those of you who are going to any convention I will be at, starting at Planet Comic Con this weekend I will have copies of the teaser comic we got done.  It’s not quite finished, still needs tone work, but it’ll be ready for Launch come August.

In the meantime follow the Twitter at Marshal_Star and I’ll be posting more information as we get closer to launch.  Really excited as the team has a good work ethic, and good level of professionalism.  We have a Twitter for the account, so expect updates to go there and here as we get closer to launch.  There’s currently a QR Code to scan for the teaser on your phone.

We’ll be setting up a Patreon as well for support, because, hey, we wanna get paid too.  That and we get enough support, we’ll be doing some cool things.  So stay tuned for that!

AND?

Well I have some other stuff in the way, I am planning on getting back into doing some more streams, I just haven’t had time as my software for the screen capture is outdated and I need to fight it half the time.  I may be joining in on a Podcast of sorts, where we get a lot of issues off our chest regarding Geekdom and such.

So all in all I’ve got some cool things going on that are grabbing my attention.  Not to mention Prints and finishing up my Commissions and getting Marshal Star up and running.

So if you are at Planet Comic Con this weekend in Kansas City, stop by Booth 1115 for some awesome stuff!  I’m hanging with Ichico Comics again, so come on by!

Hey everyone, I have some sad news to report.

Two weeks ago, a good friend of mine passed away along with his mother in a car crash.  They were driving home from Texas, through Oklahoma and swerved off the road.  My friend passed away on site, and his mother at the hospital later.  This weekend my friends and I traveled to clean out his house and bring his belongings back to his families' home in Kansas.  it has been a long and draining two weeks.

I have been working on getting my current commissions done as I prepare for Con Season starting in April with Siouxper Con, new con starting in Sioux Falls, along with AnimeX (which I am still waiting to hear back from).  This Con Season is going to be interesting as I'm also working on saving up to move.  A friend and I are entertaining the idea of moving out of Kansas and plopping ourselves right round the Seattle area.  It's going to be an expensive move, but a greatly needed one.  So starting to save up for the trip.

So on those notes, some news.

Commissions are closed until Con Season Slows down.

Check out my Etsy Store (Above) and get some awesome prints!  Money is going to towards the moving/Business Funds

Full Con Schedule will be forthcoming as June will be busy with SoDak and SmallVille, and another con in there somewhere, so lets get going!

One thing I will be doing before hand is a mural for my friend.  I will be posting it on my DA here, but I will not be offering it as a Print except for close friends and family of Gary.

Hey there!  Just a few things.

Commissions are still available, check out my commission widget for more info, and send me a note if you're interested!

Working on some things for the next con, which is Air Capitol Comic Con in Wichita on Nov 14-15!  I'll be there with of course the Ichico Crew, and other local and big name artists.  It's gotten big in the last few years, and often my last con of the year.  SO!  Come on down and check us all out!  I'll be hosting a panel with Buster Moody and Joe Badon.  Topic is Kaiju, other than that, we haven't decided.

Probably won't decide till after the social the Friday before.

Anyways, randomness aside...

I am planning for at minimal three prints for Air Cap, a continuation of my Pokemon Teams per Generation and my Godzilla vs Series.  I also have some Transformers and Pokemon Crossovers in sketch form I think you'll get a kick out of

Until Air cap... LATER!

So, it's almost here!

G-Fest is in less than a week, and I've been busting my butt trying to finish things before that awesome weekend gets here.  Granted there have been a few bumps along the way...

First things first, there was some trouble with my plane tickets that hit back in May.  Apparently Spirit, the airline I had booked the tickets with had cancelled my tickets.  Their corporate had made the decision to no longer serve flights from Kansas City to Chicago or back.  So I was in a bit of a panic that night as I attempted to get something arranged.  First guy I talked to wanted to give me credit on a Spirit airline for the amount, and of course that wasn't gong to fly.  So I called back in later, got a different one, and managed to get my ticket money refunded so i could get ANOTHER set of tickets at about the same price (little more expensive) JUST so my friend and I can make this trip.

Add onto that, the fact I found out lhis last year someone was charging stuff in my name up in New York on my card, when my card was still in my pocket.  Luckily the bank caught this, informed me, and no money was actually withdrawn.  But dear geek, two charges of nearly 500 at a Target in Brooklyn?  I guarantee that wasn't me because I was in at my branch that morning.

So yeah, that's been a trip.  Don't worry though we got other tickets and I got a new card (other one was reported stolen).

So lets get onto the nitty gritty of the week!

SoDak Con was AMAZING.  So many cool people there, new artists, and a bit of a larger venue.  Granted we had nearly 30  artists there, not everyone did amazing, but DreamGear Studios wasn't there, (they were at Smallville).  Though we did have a tumbler competition come through at the same time, it felt like the con itself had gotten smaller.  The Tumbler Nationals helped though, did make a lot of sales on Friday and Sat.  So much so that I passed last years sales by a good chunk!  I did have to up my prices, however.  But that's the nature of the beast, especially with costs rising.  It sucks, but people are still buying, so I can't complain.

So it's entitled "Get your Kaiju On" for a few reasons.  As many of my followers and new watchers have noticed, I've been finishing up a LOT of kaiju art.  And why not?  G-Fest is right around the corner, ina ll of it's city smashing glory!  Most of the CKC Forum is going to be there, saddly :iconwintergaia: won't be due to personal reasons.  :iconrosenkruex: will be crashing with me, and bringing some soda as a gift for the Art God.  My Roomate will be going again, and we're pretty excited about the whole trip.  Pretty excited to see :iconkaijusamurai:, again, crash his dinner like last time. >;D.  Bob Eggleton will be there, but I still can't find my Darkhorse Godzilla #16 that he did the line art for and have him sign it.  Freaking A I need to clean.  There are so many people there I get to hang with again.  Graves and his book "Night of the Fire Beast" of which you saw my submission for the back of the book earlier this week, and the book will be for sale at G-Fest!  Man I'm so excited!  Its everything I enjoy in a con:  Good people, awesome art, MASSIVE dealers room, and of course Kaiju Goodness.  Lets also nto forget it's Gamera's 50th Anniversary, and I will have copies of my Gamera Tribute there:
Gamera Tribute by DR-Studios

Even though Winter won't be there (Wionter is NOT coming, HA!), I do have a few things we've worked on.  You probably noticed the last few pieces I've done that don't quite look like my coloring style.  That's because they are his, and part of a collaboration project we are working on.

Atheos:  Monster War is the name of the project and at this monent we have several kaiju designed but only a few finsihed.  The poster children are, of course Persastro Atheos - Persastro, The Mountian's Rage Cover by DR-Studios and of course Zatyolei Atheos - Zatyloei, The Ancient King Cover by DR-Studios.
:iconWinterGaia" is also working on another project with the two pieces so I'm excited to see what he comes up with.  We have two more in the works, that we will do in this style of I draw the art, and he colors it.  You can't deny the combination is downright awesome:  :D!  And of course those are:
Atheos - Szekah cover Sketch by DR-Studios and Atheos - kaiju sketch by DR-Studios.
So yeah, much excitement!  ;D

Oh man G-Fets is almost here and I have like.. two prints to finish.  One is a Create-a-Kaiju for Anime Fest Wichita, of which saddly I won't be there because G-fest kinda takes priority in my scale of awesome (Don't worry AFW, you're still a blast.. but... GODZILLA!)  However Ichico Comics will be there selling the Kaiju for AFW, and as always going to have copies for sale on my Etsy store when I return form G Fest and money influx is a bit better.

I'm also starting to launch a Paetron:  www.patreon.com/DR?ty=h (and link above).  Still working on a good cross over as to what to offer you fine folks for supporting me with your monies, but that's gonna be a bit.  I'm also looking into a primary site I can link to all my others from, just to save the clutter on my DevArt Blog, or get a way to show some images as links instead of just.. ya know...bland hyperlinks.  Ya know.  Stuff to work on but not as important?  lol  May even work on my own Journal skin.  Have some ideas, but priorities, ya know...

Now, back to work and then organizing how i'm going to transport all my prints.  I may be able to get them on the plane cheaper this year with how I have planned.  Also going to take a bit fewer, but still have copies of things that did pretty well last year.  Though with all the requests for freaking SHADOW, I may need to switch over my SegaSonicSeries release plans.... hmm...  Maybe.. But I want to get Amy and Chaotix done first before I'll start tackling Next Gen.

As always I'm still practicing and getting used to Manga Studio (LOVE IT), but the coloring options are a biiiiit limited compared to Photoshop.  Pretty sure some of that can be alleviated when and if I get my brushes transfered over (cuz I have a thousand sets of brushes I use).

In other news, Onyx Publishing has finished their Kickstarter for BEAST:  The PRIMORDIAL yesturday and I hehehehe,. decided to plurge a bit on it.  So much that I got one of the few positions for helping from concept to completion of a future supplement of the game.  Don't know when they're going to be asking for that information, but when they do, it should be a blast.

Okay guys, that's enough from me.  I gotta go work on stuff and get ready for G-FEST!

See you all there!

Long overdue Update

*peeks around the corner*  Um,... Hiya.  How we all doing?

Ahem.  Sorry for the long delay in updates, but my Con Season is starting up again and I need to keep everyone updated a bit, even if the last update is nearly a year old.. So yeah.. Moving on.

Conventions:

So my convention schedule is a bit scant this year due to a few factors.  One is schedule conflicts between a few, and others is that the cons I've gone too have been stopped.  So far this year I'm going to be at SoDak, but won't be at Smallville.  I'll be at G-Fest selling, but not at AFW.  I will be at TF Expo, and going to see about guilting Matt Frank to go back for another round of shenanigans.  Afterwards my Fall months are kind of up in the air.  Encounters may or may not be happening this year, and Air Capitol Comic Con is being expanded to two days for a full weekend.  I am trying to Naka Con next year, and I was at Planet Comic Con in March with Ichico Comics.

If you're sad or afraid you're going to miss some of my latest prints at either Smallville or AFW, fear not.  Ichico Comics, an Geek Coallition of artists, gamers, and cosplayers will be selling copies of my prints, including the Smallvile and AFW Create-a-Kaiju for the conventions while I'm at other events.

The prints (new and old) will also be available on my Etsy Store!

There are a lot of future projects on the way.  :iconwintergaia: and I are working on Some Kaiju Projects, featuring Persastro  Persastro Cover Final Lines by DR-Studios and Zatyolei Zatyloei Cover Final Lines by DR-Studios, as well as a host of other Kaiju, including this guy Atheos - Szekah cover Sketch by DR-Studios.  I'm continuing on increasing the variety I have as far as anime and kaiju art, as some of you have probably seen in my scraps.  And trying to get as much of these done before SoDak as possible.  You've seen the Sailor Moon and Samus prints, and also in the work are going to be some Attack on Titan, League of Legends with Ahri, the Nine-Tailed Fox, some Naruto, and a DBZ print.  I also have a series of prints I want to work on featuring Dragons and girls.  So yeah.  Want to work on that some.

Some fun news!  I backed a Kickstarter for a Table Top Game called Epyllion, and with what I backed I get to contribute to the game development and story hooks a little bit.  It looks like it'll be a fun game, and should be interesting.

There some other things in the works, but I need to get back to them.  Check out Ichico Comics on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/ichicocomics for some other amazing talent!

Later!

Month of Godzilla is here!

Journal Entry: Fri May 2, 2014, 5:57 AM
Facebook:  www.facebook.com/pages/Decorat…  Twitter:  twitter.com/DecRealStudios  Etsy:  www.etsy.com/shop/DRStudios?re…  Tumblr:  dr-studios.tumblr.com/  Livestream:  new.livestream.com/accounts/34…

Hiya everyone, guess what.  It's May.  You know what that means...

Godzilla is going to be out in 2 weeks, My Con Schedule starts at the end of the month, and all sorts of crazy things going on, so let's get to it.

CON SCHEDULE AND NEWS

There have been some new additions to my Con Schedule and some changes.  The latest being a convention named Smallville Con having it's first meeting in Huchitson, KS (the real world equivalent of Superman's Smallville).  Now that Convention is smack dab in the middle of June, two weeks after SoDak.  I finally heard back from Nebraskon, and they turned down my application this year (now that you mention it, I think they turned me down last year too... which is why I didn't go, but I can't remember exactly), However they made sure to tell me that I was added to the short list of Artists for when they begin mailing out applications and information next year, so fingers crossed for DR Studios at Nebraskon 2015!  Also confirmed my application for Transformers Expo in Whicita, KS in August.  Think I just need the hotel for that one and I'm golden.

So now, the Convention schedule is looking liiiiike:

SoDak:  May 30th to June 1st.  Rapid City, SD
Smallville Con:  June 20th to 22.  Hutchinson, KS
Anime Fest Wichita:  June 27th to 29th.  Wichita, KS
G Fest:  July 11-13th.  Chicago, IL
Transformers Expo:  August 1st to 3rd  Wichita, KS
Encounters:  Awaiting Application.  Wichita, KS
Nebraskon:  Declined.  Better luck next year.  D:
Air Capitol Comic Con:  Awaiting application.  Wichita, KS

I've also been in talks with a group of comic and anime artists about starting up another convention in Kansas.  Encounters is more of a Catch-all kind of convention, and Air-Capitol had a large focus on toys and comics more than anime (which is where I got my Studio Gorn).  The guys at Ichico COmics have been going to big conventions like Planet Comic Con (which I will try THAT and Naka Con next year, just too expensive this year to try.. 600 bucks for an artist table?!  I can't guarantee I'll make that money back!), and I've been talking with one of their head members about another convention they want to start.  They want a one day thing, but I think for all the events and everything they're planning a 2 or 3 day event would be better to get that all crammed in.  Plus, I can probably get some local support here.

I was also approached with an offer of help if I ever wanted to start up a local comic con here in Hays.  While I've thought of the idea a bit, I can't guarantee it'll be that large, and if we do something like that, we'd have to do it in the summer during tourist season on a weekend for at least a day.  Which may not be all that bad and we could probably do that, but I'm more a fan of the longer conventions.

Nothing concrete right now (though I'll let you all know the state of the new one still in development).

Check em out, give em some love (they got more followers than I do <<U!, and teh better pen artz, should ask for an apprenticeship....)

JOB

Okay, so.  Those of you that know me know I currently work fast food.  I deliver tacos for a local TexMex place.  However earlier this week I had an interview for another job that's NOT in food, and it went fairly well (was scheduled for 20-30 minutes, we talked for over an hour), and the person interviewing me said I did really well.  I'll hear about if I got the position or not later this morning so I'll keep you all informed on that end.  The hours will be better, pay will be better, weekends mostly off so that eases my Convention schedule so I don't have to take 5 day stretches off from work (I can just take 2-3 depending on the trip).

What is the job in question?

Technical Service Representative for a local cable/internet provider.  Basically I help people with their internet and cable devices distributed through the company.  So yeah, it's a much better job.  Fingers crossed!

Also, if I move, I'll have another skill set I can use to get into other Tech service areas!  :D!

GODZILLA

You think You'd get a journal from ME, in MAY, without SOME mention of the Godzilla movie?  You have been mislead.

Yes, Godzilla is almost here and so far, the trailer hype has been ridiculous.  Every new trailer has been amazing and sets the tone for the whole movie.  I've pre-ordered Godzilla:  The Art of Destruction as well as Godzilla Awakening to get excited for the release.  I've also tried locating the GIANT 30-some inch Godzilla figure for a decent price because Hays is a bit of a pain when it comes to getting things like that in stock (at Wal-mart or anywhere else for that matter - NO EXCUSES HASTINGS!).  Though Wal-Mart DID get some posters in.  It's so little compared to.. EVERYWHERE ELSE!  The NECA figure is currently on my "Should I buy now, or buy now" list, though I'm waiting to see what my finances are like after I get my car back from a 600+ repair.

We just got some reviews of the early screening in, and overall it's positive.  Overwhelming positive (even compared to The Amazing Spider-man 2), very little bad to say about the film from what's been appearing.  So yes, Hype all over in this mug.

I suppose I want to talk about it, because I think I figured something out about the plot, but it's blind speculation and so far no one's been able to provide counter evidence (movie will tell at that point).  But I suppose I should be giving a breakdown of how I feel about the Godzilla design.

Let's face it, fans have been split into two camps based on, of all things, the style of Godzilla's feet.  His feet are more columnar than in previous incarnations and resemble a sauropod manus in structure.  Just goes to show that fans cannot be pleased.  He's also a bit beefy in terms of his Heisei era design (which was my favorite series of the films).

From a design point, I like it.  The mass is there, the feet work, the spines are jagged, crooked and look dangerous.  Godzilla looks like a Godzilla the fans will recognize.  His skin is black and jagged, looking torn and damaged.  There's emotion in his face when he rear's back to roar.  I think this is one of the top five designs.  His movements look real in the trailer reveals so far.  The design itself is strong, powerful, and has a mass to it that makes it believable for a 350ft monster.  The head is a bit small, but that doesn't bother me as much considering tying it all together and how he moves is going to be the selling point.

MUTO comments?  Not much.  All I could talk about would be mostly the toy reveals for the two different creatures (yes there are two, you can't follow the movie as closely as I have without finding out genuinely how stuff's going on).  The leaked WonderCon footage was really amazing given some of the effects they showed were still unfinished, showing the Winged MUTO and it's own emotion in its actions and face.

Overall from what I've seen of Extended Looks, interviews, the trailers, toys, merchandising... The complete and utter joy and love for the character put into the movie has been overwhelming.  Garreth talks about Godzilla with such love and adoration that it feels like you could just sit down with the guy and do nothing but talk about Godzilla all day.  He desperately wants to get it right, and he wants to make a film that the fans can be proud of, and the fans can be proud of, an Toho will consider it part of their film series.

On THAT note, however, there's a bit of contention.  Someone at Legendary/WB decided to remove Akira Takarada's cameo from the (I think) Western Release of the film, leaving his scene in the film for the Japanese Audience.  I can kind of see their decision, he's not well known over here.  For those of you who don't know, Takarada-san played Ogata, one of the three main characters in the 54 Godzilla.  He's also played numerous parts throughout the Godzilla franchise including:  Mothra vs Godzilla, Invasion of Astro Monster (Godzilla vs Monster Zero), Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, King Kong Escapes, Godzilla vs Mothra (92, which I didn't realize he was in this one, will have to re-watch it), and Godzilla Final Wars.  His Wiki entry is here with his Filmography:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_Ta…

Now there is an online pention to get Takarada-san's scene put back into the western release.  He is to the Godzilla fanbase what Stan Lee is to the Marvel fanbase.  We want him in the film for his cameo, considering how much he's done for the fanbase, including G-Fest (whcih I hope he's there this year so I can meet him).

The Pention is here, so please do sign it so we can get Takarada-san back in the western release and off the editing room floor:  www.thepetitionsite.com/127/71…

Since Godzilla hits theaters the 16th, I put up a recent poll to see what you guys would like to see from me Print wise before SoDak.  The votes are in and it looks like I will be finishing the following as my last Print before Con Season:

Godzilla 2014 Sketch 003 by DR-Studios

And as suggested by a friend, I think I'll do more of my classic line-art as opposed to a digital painting like I was going to lean towards.  Gamera was okay, but it had some rough spots in it that I was unsure of how to fix (considering, you know... newb at digital painting and all that.)

Gamera Tribute by DR-Studios

So I may do the head-shot as a digital painting for more practice and do my Line-art mixed with a bit of Comic-stylized shading fro the side-shot.  May need to sketch out parts of his back and tail and might have to rework his arm, as suggested by a fellow artist, but I'm not seeing much of a problem with it, probably just need to modify where scales overlap and that'll solve most of the problem.

So, anyway.  Godzilla in two weeks!  Check it out in theaters May 16th!  Current Tracking suggests a Box Office Weekend of $80-100 Million, which will be awesome and I want it to blow Spider-man and X-men outta the water (even though I like those two things...).  Current early reviews are looking positive, and I think we've got a shot.

That's it for me guys.  Back to Warcraft and Pokemon X.

Hey everyone.  Time for a bit of an update to my new watchers as well as anyone who happens to see the new things I did.

First off, Con schedules!

Convention Schedule:

Good news everyone, AFW has changed their dates to the end of June, which means I can go to it AND G Fest this year!  Originally I was just going to G Fest because AFW and Tokyo in Tulsa were all on the same weekend in July.  However with AFW changing their dates, that means I can make it this year!

Confirmed 2014 Conventions:

SoDak:  May 30th to June 1st.  Rapid City, SD
Anime Fest Wichita:  June 27th to 29th.  Wichita, KS
G Fest:  July 11-13th.  Chicago, IL
Transformers Expo:  Awaiting confirmation.  Wichita, KS
Encounters:  Awaiting Confirmation.  Wichita, KS
Nebraskon:  Awaiting application.  Omaha, NB
Air Capitol Comic Con:  Awaiting application.  Wichita, KS

So that's a lot of Cons, and most of them local.  I'll still Miss Sogen con though, I hope they bring it back in some capacity because that was one of the more enjoyable cons I've been to.

Prints in the works:

So another thing to go over is my Print selection, and January has been pretty productive for me (Surprisingly).

I did a Collaboration with :iconwintergaia: for two Gfantis prints.  We each did the lines and then we each did the colors of the other.  It was pretty fun, and I think we came up with some pretty awesome stuff:

:iconwintergaia: -  <da:thumb id="429579104"/>
:icondr-studios: Gfantis: Our Salvation, our Destruction by DR-Studios

So there's one.  I also did a Zilla and Fluttershy image for the hellovit because Zilla gets too much hate and Fluttershy can comfort even the most emotionally distressed of kaiju.

Fluttershy and Zilla by DR-Studios

And on a side note:  This image seems to have went nearly viral.  The day I posted it and shared it on Facebook and here, My page views hit 94 for the day, and I found out it was shared to Reddit not once, but twice in both the Godzilla and MLP sections.  It's gotten over 150 likes on FB and shared nearly 30 times!  Mostly with positive responses (the others..... not so much).

So, considering how much work I've gotten done this month on Commissions and Prints, it's pretty surprising how productive January has been.  Gfantis, Zilla and Fluttershy, the DnD MLP series, and a couple of commissions in there too.  So that's... 3 prints in a month.  Not bad.

Commissions:

I'm currently staggering my Commission lists because, I need to get them finished and current incentive is to do one Personal Print Project, and then a Commission, then continue alternating.  Surprisingly at the rate I seem to be going I will have most of my intended Projects for the Summer done by March, as well as a bulk of current commissions.

The Delta Commission for :icon12izzy3: was another set of experimentation with Comic-style inking (so was the Gfantis lines).  And I think it turned out pretty good for the pose and angle at which I worked on it.

Currently working on this Commission COM - League of Legends Church Visit by DR-Studios and once that's done I will work on a Print for the summer, then... another Commission after that, and so on, so on, so forth.  Currently it's an experiment in Fish-eye view because that's something I need to work and experiment with.

Experimenting:

Okay so I'm working on trying a new way to color and actually trying out digital painting as well.  The sad news is I was never very good at painting in any of my art classes because I could never get the paint to do what I wanted.  As such I found a good set of tutorials by Matt Kohr that I've been watching and want to attempt digital painting.

My first real attempt without much experience and jumping in blind yeilded Sketch - Sketch - The Kaiju of Art by DR-Studios.  Of which I'm... torn.   On one hand I like some things I did with it, and on others I think I rushed it and didn't look very good.  I've debating doing this as a print as well.  Maybe, but it'd be small in number because I'm not sure it'll generate the amount of attention I'd like to get.  That and it's dark, and the printers usually ends up making my prints a bit darker in the process.

So I will be attempting on working on digital painting with some of my other print works as well.  I'd like to do the BearGoji BearGoji-Godzilla 2014 sketch by DR-Studios as a digitally painted print, however I need to practice a lot and on the fly before I get to that part.  Though honestly, I think I could make it look pretty cool.  I know what I want to do, and with more info on the design leaking every day I think I could get more of the body put in there.

Livestream:

Okay, so I think I'll do a weekly Livestream every Monday when I get home (between 5 and 6 Central) and just draw for a few hours on whatever project happens to be worked on at the moment.  I won't be posting announcements, other than trying to make it a weekly thing.  If I don't have a project I may just doodle and hold a "lets draw" and go over technique and other random things.

One year down, New Year stuffs

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 11, 2014, 7:11 AM
Facebook:  www.facebook.com/pages/Decorat…  Twitter:  twitter.com/DecRealStudios  Etsy:  www.etsy.com/shop/DRStudios?re…  Tumblr:  dr-studios.tumblr.com/

Hey everyone, lots of stuff to go over so let's hop to it!

Birthday

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes back on the 10th.  It means a lot to me to have your support as I continue to improve my skills and post random things that pop through my head.

Also on my birthday, they released the official trailer for the Godzilla 2014 movie!  Which was a bit of a surprise because I've never heard of a movie studios releasing a trailer in the middle of a work week.  Odd.

However I did get to spend it with my friends and having a Kaiju movie marathon of which included the Gamera 90s Trilogy, so all things considered it was the best Birthday Eva!

Etsy Store

It's been a bit in the running to get around to get this thing back up and running, BUT.  If you were unable to get a print at one of the many conventions I was at, (even if you didn't but would like a print that DA won't sell in their store), the Etsy store is back!  Link at the beginning of the Journal.  ^^

Convention Plans

This year is looking to be light on the convention plans.  Mostly because a lot of them in the summer have registration back in the fall in October, and I didn't have money enough for them at the time.  That being said what am I trying to go to?

Sodak:  Yup.  I'm goin' back.  Kinda hard to stay away when they're my first con I sold at, and everyone there are awesome people.  They had to slide the dates back to Late May, but that's not that big of a deal for me.

G Fest:  You read that right, my roomate and I are heading up to G Fest in Mid July because.. reasons that's why!  I've always wanted to go to G Fest, and hang out with other Godzilla fans besides myself, and the best part, I will be there selling art!  Now I just need to up my Kaiju Print Quota before then.

Encounters:  Despite my rough start with them over a year ago, the representatives from Encounters have been very accommodating and understanding in getting me set up for this last year.  As such I'm going to go to Encounters down in Wichita in 2014 as well!  :D!

Air Capitol Comic Con:  A one day event down in Wichita.  It was a lot of fun to go to and hang out and see all of the old toys, comics, and new games and new artists.  Met one who was planning on doing something similar only larger for an entire day.  I'd like more of a weekend event, but eh *shrug*

Anime Fest Wichita and Tokyo in Tulsa?:  I was going to try and hit these two this year, but apparently they BOTH happen on the same weekend as G Fest, so I'm not going to be able to make it to either.  I need to contact AFW for a refund so I can use that money for G Fest proper (which should save me some cash).  I would have loved to try for Tokyo in Tulsa, but like I said.  Same weekend as G Fest, so not really a possibility.

Dragon Con:  A crap shoot at this point, I think Reg for their artist alley is over.  :|  I will try though.

Anime Nebraskon:  I missed it last year due to budget and other worries, but this year, defiantly going to make it!  :D!

I am getting better at looking for cons that are relatively closer to home so I'm not driving through three states for hours on end.  Though a GOOD directory of Conventions would be helpful.  If you guys have any conventions you'd like me to try and get to around Kansas, let me know and I'll look into them.

Future Projects

In preparing for G Fest and the other conventions as well as current commissions I have a list of things i want to do for them:

Godzilla 2014:  The movie is coming out so I want to at least do a couple of prints for it.  One of Godzilla in my Scraps already, and another that's a variant of the 1954 movie poster with the 2014 design and cast.

Kaiju:  :iconwintergaia: and I are also doing some collabs for some future prints that should be done for both G Fan and G Fest.  I'm also going to do a Gamera Print, a Rodan one, and a generic Kaiju print to showcase the variety of kaiju that we've gotten over the years.

Sega Sonic Series:  It's steadily growing with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and now Mighty joining the Roster, This year I want to double that with Ray and the Chaotix, eventually moving my way up the list to Robotnik at the end.  It's over 22 images for the series, so yeah... gonna try what I can.  ^^U

League of Legends:  I'm going to do a League series as well.  Teemo and Nidalee are fine and all, but Everyone has their fave champion, so I'm going to try and work my way through the Champion roster as fast as I can.

Anime Fan Art:  I really need to watch more anime, as the stuff that's popular now, sells like bloody hotcakes.  o.o  So far Eevees are pretty popular too

Livestream

Yes, I have a Livestream and I've been drawing on it the last few days for everyone to seeThough I haven't updated here with it as much, I'll try and get that info out before hand so ppl can see what I'm working on.  Maybe even do a "Let's Draw" tutorial or two if people are interested.  :o

New Years Goals

I don't do Resolutions, as people fail at them faster than a new diet.  But I do have some goals.

Keep drawing:  Have to keep working on drawing and commissions.  Not only for myself, but for my fans who commission me.  Apparently I set a standard.  o.o

Keep costs to Conventions down:  Getting better at this, though hopefully the Etsy Store and other advertisements I've done will help with this a bit.

Get new job:  One I've been working at for a while, but honestly the Fast Food business isn't for me.  Not.  One.  Bit.

Don't be dismissive of critiques:  I'm still kind of bad at this, as it's ego more than anything and perhaps overconfidence in my own skills.  But I will work on being less dismissive of comments and critiques on my art.

Alright!  That's about it for the wrap-up!  Happy new Year everyone and get ready.  The King Returns in May!

Of Cons and Kaiju Combat!

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 15, 2013, 9:12 PM
Facebook:  www.facebook.com/pages/Decorat…  Twitter:  twitter.com/DecRealStudios  Etsy:  www.etsy.com/shop/DRStudios?re…  Tumblr:  dr-studios.tumblr.com/

Hey everyone!

It's been a few months since the last update and I've been sad on that, so yes.  Sorry.  Time for Con Recap!!!

Sogen Con:  sogencon.org/

This was the last year for Sogen Con as is.  Unfortunately there was some drama between the name of the con and the convention center (apparently they loved us, just not our name).  Met a lot of cool people, saw some sharp cosplay, met some old friends, and got to show off Godzilla vs Fenris!  Eevees was my biggest seller (go fig) and sold out by mid-day Saturday (I could have sworn I made 15 not 10 copies :X).  We also got an amazing supernatural kaiju from the Create-a-Kaiju panel.  Had a lot of fun at the Let's Draw panel, and Crystar even got some Fan art!  Whoot!  Thanks Becks!

Encounters:  www.encounterscon.com/

Encounters was.. a last minute rush.  For one, in the middle of October while I'm working on projects, and second got to meet more fun people!  More cool costumes, beautiful dealers and crafters, and even made some new art friends(:iconartrobot9000:) with some cool sets of prints I got for my roomie (big Power Rangers and Transformers fan).  I was able to finally get in and found out about what happened to my payment and such.  The Dealer Room head managed to get me in, and I'm glad he did because it was a blast!.

Air Capitol Comic Con:  www.aircapcomiccon.com/

This is this coming weekend on the 17th.  If you are in the Wichita area on Sunday and want to swing on by, that's where I'll be with more prints, more sketch books, and also promoting Colossal Kaiju Combat (more on that below)!

Side Projects:

Been busy with some cool things.  Jeremy Robinson, author of Project Nemesis was promoting the sequel, Project Maigo, back in September.  As part of the promotion he called for fan art of Nemesis, of which I was happy to provide for publication in the sequel!  You may recognize the Crystar vs Nemesis image Crystar vs Nemesis by DR-Studios as part of that project.  Also for the fan art submission I did a six-page adaptation of my favorite part in Project Nemesis.  Which part?  Well now that's a secret now innit?  You'll have to buy Project Maigo to find out!

But until that comes out.. get Project Nemesis, written by Jeremy Robinson and kaiju designs by our own Matt Frank :iconkaijusamurai: :  www.jeremyrobinsononline.com/b…  I have some other side projects, though they're secret for the time being.  Shhhhh.

Now for the BIG one!

Colossal Kaiju Combat needs support guys!  We currently have a second Kickstarter up for funding on the OUYA system (www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…).  Now.  Here are some important points to keep in mind:

Kickstarter does not withdraw money from your account UNLESS the project reaches it's pledge amount.  Withdrawing money or taking down pledges if the Kickstarter looks like it will not succeed does not help.  This Kickstarter ends on November 27th.
This is not a scam.  The game IS funded and currently on schedule from the previous Kickstarter.  This Kickstarter is for expansion onto the OUYA game system and general improvements.  The money will also help if something unforseen happens and doesn’t push back release of Fall of Nemesis back any farther.
The Trailer presented is of a combination of Alpha and Pre-Alpha gameplay footage showing both Kaijuland Battles and Fall of Nemesis characters.
Kaijuland Battles (kaijucombat.com/wiki/doku.php?…) is our technical first release using the game engine under development and in use for all following CKC releases.  It features Komododon, RoboKomododon, Gigashark, and Magnarok.  The Beta for Kaijuland Battles will be a free Public Beta Test.  The graphics for it are a bit more cartoonish given the origins of the characters.
Fall of Nemesis (kaijucombat.com/wiki/doku.php?…) is going to be our first step into the CKC world where the Kaijujin have chosen Nemesis as their champion.  Fight among the strongest kaiju on or off earth to bring down the godess of justice and retribution once and for all!  If Successful the Kickstarter will also allow us to put in a top secret 12th Kaiju into the Fall of Nemesis game.  I don't know you, but I want to see what it is.
Our Community (kaijucombat.com/community/inde…) is co-operative, friendly, and we hold bi-annual Sponsorship drives to get YOUR Kaiju into the CKC world!
The Developers at CKC are transparent with the community to show constant progress on the game's development as well as community votes for what should be developed for the games.
Steam Greenlight:  CKC is looking to being available on Steam, so please go Greenlight it and give it your support:  steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles…
Have a child who loves Kaiju?  How about giving them the gift of ULTIMATE destruction by pledging 200 for their own Kaiju to be represented in the CKC Trading Card Game as a playable monster?!  Kaiju on the Trading Cards are then available to be voted for in the Progenitor Drives so that even your child's Kaiju can end up as a playable monster in the CKC video game!  Current spots are limited for the OUYA Kickstarter so get in on the destruction!
Or how about some kaiju Goodies?  Matt Frank and the Sunstone Co. are releasing an Art Book about the Collaboration process from getting the community created Kaiju to video game perfection!  As well as access to Jeremy Robinson's Project Nemesis and Project Maigo for only $30 when released!

Remember, this is only if the Kickstarter succeeds.  If we do meet our pledge, OUYA will DOUBLE the amount raised.  This also means CKC will be able to make games and releases for the next five years including some of your favorite franchises like Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, and anything that may have a Kaiju or three.  So go out there and make a pledge.  Even if it's $5, it's $5 more closer to our goal!

AFW Recap, next Cons, Shinanigans

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 29, 2013, 6:59 AM

Sup guys, it's been a few weeks but it's just about time for a recap.

The Anime Festival Wichita was a pretty big success.  Much better than some of the other conventions I've been to (Don't worry, I still love you all).  I did a record number of sketch commissions (for reasons listed below), and sold out of TWO of my prints!  Blood Talon Victory March

Mature Content

Blood Talon Victory March by DR-Studios
and Godzilla vs Fenris Godzilla vs Fenris by DR-Studios.  Both got sold out on Sunday so much that I had to sell display pictures that I was hanging.  Other top sales were the big three of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles from my SegaSonicSeries of Prints, as well as the image of Denny and Niji fishing for a Dratini in the Safari Zone.

Now, why did I sell a record level of Commission Sketches?  It's a bit of an aggravating story.  My friends that I invited to help cut costs of the trip started taking over my booth.  Not only did they change things without asking me first (very irate, like.. livid about this) they wrote down a very confusing sight for "Speed Sketches" starting at $2 and then adding another $5 to "refine it."

Here's the thing.  My friends didn't really understand the amount of work I put into a sketch (and they admired this the final day of the Convention).  They were expecting me to come up with an image like this:   Wiccard Blare by DR-Studios in 10-15 minutes.  No.  That's just not possible.  Though apparently what they were expecting (I found out later) was that I would do a rough outline, just basic shapes in 10-15 minutes for $2 and then the customers would ask for me to 'refine it' (which I dunno what the hell they meant by that and neither did the customers) for an additional $5.  Problem with this idea was... for sketch commissions, I take cash up front.  And honestly, after 10-15 minutes, they were probably expecting something of the previous image's quality, and then expecting for Inked lines for an additional $5.  No, I had no way to do any inking while there, and most of my finished Lines come from working on them through photoshop.  Not to mention that if I gave an artist $2 for a 'speed sketch' and only got basic rough outlines, and they asked for more money to 'refine/finish it' I'd just ask for my money back because they'd just be milking me for cash.  That's basic commerce right there.  My friends convinced me to try it out for the weekend, (although they never listen to me when i say No, over and over again, and then complain when I start getting 'bitchy' "Well I wouldn't get 'bitchy' if you would LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY NO AND DROP IT!")  So, I did try it for the weekend.  And I had the cheapest sketch commissions there ($2 vs 10 vs 30-40).

Here's the problem with that though:  For a sketch, it usually takes me 20-30 minutes until I'm considered done with it.  Usually this may involve some shading of lines and color to bring out an effect, but most often it means I need to look up the character for a reference and then draw it.  I was so popular that I ended up having a back-log of Sketch Commissions about 10 projects long.  And they just kept coming.  I was so backed up with it I had to mail a finished sketch to someone who had to leave early (good thing I got her contact information, and if you're reading this, hope you enjoy your Konota!).  The fact I was backlogged wasn't the big issue, it was the amount of money I was getting in return for the effort of work I was putting into every sketch.  Even if I got three done in an hour, I was only making $6.  Which, for me, is only $2 less than if I was working at my actual full time job for an hour.  This was pointed out a couple of times by other artists and even some of the clients that I was 'underselling' myself at the behest of my friends to undercut everyone there.  I agree with this.

This doesn't mean I won't stop doing Sketch Commissions, as a matter of fact I enjoy doing them.  They give me a challenge every time I go to a convention to draw something that I'm either not a fan of, or have had no previous knowledge off the show/comic, and draw it in a new and unique way (with a bit of my own sarcasm thrown in to give the sketch some personality).  I'll still keep it affordable (since most of my finished printed work starts at $8 and goes to $12), I might make it $7, because $2 a sketch just isn't worth it.  Overall for the 2-3 hours of work, I made $20.  Might be $20 more than I had, but gathering the rest of the profit I made, it's a drop in the bucket and it could have been a lot more.

But enough about that.  AFW was a blast, I had fun, met people, helped others with their drawing and art n stuffs, and got some interesting news.

1) I ran into the people from Encounters, which is a Sci-Fi/Horror/Steampunk/Anime/Gaming Convention.  I talked to them about my application last year (send in money and some examples of prints, got no word back, several e-mails I sent were unanswered, ect) and found out they were going through some changes in the committee rosters at the time and therefore apologized.  Then I aksed if I could get into Encounters this year, considering the circumstances of already paying for last year, but hearing nothing back for over a year.  I just got an e-mail yesterday confirming that I have an artist table at Encounters.  Encounters is also in Wichita, which is such a shorter drive than any of the other cons I normally go to.  So awesome.

2)  Just submitted my panels for Sogen Con.  It's the last year for Sogen Con so what we're looking at is one last hurray for them.  I'm hosting two panels; Create-a-Kaiju, and a Let's Draw panel.  The Create-a-Kaiju is just like the one at SoDak, only coming up with another unique monster to terrorize Wichita, and the Let's Draw is more of coming across the same questions in my various art panels, mostly it's going to be drawing what people have trouble with and want to see a process to draw.  So the Let's Draw is more run by audience participation than me having a specific outline of what I want to go over.

3) Working on Prints I want to get finished for Sogen.  I got Eevee:  Possibilities, and Teemo finished, because those were some of the most requested pieces at AFW (I should just write down what most people request and work on stuff of that nature).  Next up I have Zilla, the Ouran Highschool twins, maybe a Goku, though for Encounters, Jim Butcher (author of the Dresden Files) is going to be there, so I think I'll do a Harry Dresden print for the occasion.  To be honest, never read past Storm Front, never got around to it so don't lynch me.

4) I have a poll, but some of it's rather... odd.  I've been told my graphite sketches (Blood Talon Series) is awesome and some of my best work (which I disagree, I think it's unfinished because I like color).  So I put up a poll to see what people like, and so far, there's a split down the middle between who likes Color, who likes graphite, who likes both, and then... the odd part is who likes neither (I voted in that one so that I wouldn't show favoritism :P ) but the "Neither" one is almost as high as the Graphite OR Color!  D:!  Do you not like the Art God (with no followers) you heathens?!

5)  You've probably seen the sketches and drawings I've done of the leaked Godzilla Encounter footage to give us an idea of what the Big G looks like.  If there's enough support I'll probably finish the 'BearGoji' design for Encounters.  Though I'm reluctant because it's not the final design.  I'm also planning for G-Fest next year in honor of Godzilla's birthday.  It's going to be a blast and I get to meet my artistic idols Bob Eggleton and Matt Frank, as well as other Godzilla Fans to show that I'm not as alone as I thought when I was younger.  ;_;

Alright, some links for Sogen and Encounters.  Check em out and I hope to see you all there, as I keep on the lookout for new conventions to attend and work on a portfolio to submit to a major comic studio to give me a shot!  So if you have any Conventions that are close to Kansas (or a few states away, depending) drop me a link to their site and I'll take a look, add myself to their mailing list and find out if I can go with my schedule.

Okay, so we're ready to go to Wichita.  We have three of us going, one is on his way back from Stillwater, OK, the other is at work until later.  As far as this trip goes, I'm a bit nervous, because I want it to go well.  It's a new place, new people, and I already have two confirmed sales, however I'll need to make 30+ sales (Inc Commissions) to break even, and ideally I'd want to make twice that.

I have four new Prints, a completion of the Blood Talon Series, as well as Atamaski Watanabe.  I didn't get that many copies of the individual images, because it'd be really finiky on how they sell.  But they'll all be available for purchase.  :3

Also, working on some other fun things too.  Mostly concept art for some Commissions as well as figuring out Kaiju re-designs for Godzilla Rising, and maybe some Pacific Rim stuff too.

So far my next projects (aside from Commissions) are Mighty the Armadillo, some more Kaiju art, and final lines for the King Ghidorah redesign

Well that's it, Hope to see you at Wichita this weekend and then Sogen at the end of August!

Later!

So, made it back safe and sound from Rapid City.  It was great to see everyone there, as well as new local faces to round out the roster.  Sure, the con is small and I didn't sell near as much as last year, but it's my first con that I've ever sold at.  So it'll continue to be in my expanding rotation of conventions.  :3

How'd the Panels go?  Good.  Though I was so stressed that I hardly ate and nearly got sick a few times I managed to roll through it.  Rapid City and SoDak now has a local monster from the Create-a-Kaiju panel, and names for the beast have been submitted and will be in a poll for the fans to decide when the kaiju is up.  :3  I have two digital commisions, one for :iconlignarius: and another for a friend of mine.  Also Red and her husband from Red's Shiney Bits (who are expecting in a month - WHOO-HOO!) said they'd get in contact with me shortly about the print they wish to commission.

I just heard back from Wichita (afwcon.org/default.html) and I am confirmed!  So yes, I will see you all in Wichita, KS (for any fans of mine there) July 12-14.  And I got in touch with the group from Sioux Falls (sogencon.org/) and I am third on the confirmation list!  So, to review:

Wichita Anime Festival:  July 12-14
Sogen Con:  August 30-31 and September 1

So, Wichita is two weeks away and I have about that much time to get things together.  I'm scrambling for money and traveling buddies for the trip and have a few that I've asked just waiting on confirmation.  And some that I COULD ask, but would need money up front.  On the Print side I have two prints I'll be working on while I sketch out my newest commissions.

The first will be Atamaski Watanabe Atamaski Watanabe by DR-Studios Also known as "Fang of Dragon's Rage" and my very first RPG character.  EVER!  My first RPG was Werewolf the Apocalypse and I feel that I owe the Hakken Ragabash a show of respect.  Expect me playing around with effects as well as trying to get a Japanese character haiku in there along with a translation.  Hopefully... if it works.

The second I will attempt to finish, if not work on while at Wichita to be Mighty the Armadillo for the SegaSonicSeries of prints.  I have 19 more characters to get through and the series won't finish itself and has shown to be my most popular set of images so far on the site!

Also, should be getting Godzilla:  Rulers of Earth, Godzilla vs Biollante, as well as Pacific Rim Tales from Year 0 coming in the next week.

I'm so excited!  Three Conventions in a single year!  Hang on to your butts boys and girls, the Art God (with no followers) is taking off!

Later!

Alright gang, it's coming.  Plans are getting laid together.  Tomorrow morning we'll be leaving Hays and driving up to Rapid.  With me will be my mom who rented the car (and I'll have family in Rapid this weekend), one of my roomates (the other who was going to go will be staying due to his mom's current health situation and harvest), and another friend who was able to make the trip last minute.

With me are my new finished prints (previously stated) and the new one.

I'm taking a risk with Kaiju Free For All by DR-Studios though.  I printed out 20 copies of the print.  Because it's one of my better ones, I am (and others) are fairly confident that it will sell very well.  Everything else has been printed with reduced numbers because of my previous experience at SoDak and Sogen, where things weren't selling near as much as hoped.  However, I think with my latest prints, and now being able to accept Card transactions, it should be a bit better this year.  That and it seems like SoDak will be larger as well!

Now I still need to hear back from Wichita and Sogen for the rest of my summer schedule, and figure out a Fall one.

Suggestions for Fall Cons close to KS I could still get into?
