The obligatory Little Mermaid fanart ;p

A random speedpaint of Ariel gone too far and turned into a full-on painting :P Nooo, Ariel, don't touch the jellyfish! Where's Flounder where you need him?

I modified Ariel's look just a tad, mainly the seashells and the transition from her body to fishtail. And I still have major trouble with hands...

:bulletred:The Little Mermaid belongs to Hans Christian Andersen, and this take on the story belongs to Disney.

I like the look you gave Ariel--she looks like she's not infused with sugar or coffee here. : D Not that that's bad--Rapunzel seems to be similar hyped up, but I like your take on her. She looks tranquil, like a secretive siren. I absolutely love the surface of the water, I will study your water techniques and try to incorporate them into my water. A mysterious thing, water..I love how the sun shines through the surface, and it kind of has a greenish tint--it's mesmerizing. I love the jellyfish around Ariel--it's almost a metaphor for her courting of danger in the movie. : ) Hopefully she doesn't get zapped. ^^ The jellyfish lighting Ariel's hair is exquisite, an orange glow. I love the bubbles--black or blue-black in the middle, ringed by a luminescent blue. Her scales are so lifelike I feel I can reach out and tentatively grab the tail before it slips away or in the alternative, slaps my hand away. I love the lighting and shading on her cheeks and chin. So gorgeous, I love this painting, phenomenal work! ^^

WOW! Thank you for such amazing comments!!! :hug:

LOL you're correct about how much art featuring her and Rapunzel appears to hype them both up on espresso and pixie sticks. It's nice to explore the less bubbly sides of both of them. (Actually, Ariel wasn't all that bubbly to begin with as she spent a great deal of the film either wistful or downcast. She certainly fit the "moody teenager" trope quite well.)

Thank you! Water has consistently been one of my favorite things to draw. The way the light shines through all the ripples on the surface and how it can turn all sorts of interesting colors has always been intriguing to me. C:

Awesome interpretation! It was interesting how calm she remained as she flirted with the dangers of traveling to the surface and making a deal with Ursula. She didn't even give the latter any deliberation! Ariel won't get zapped; don't worry!

Thank you so much for your awesome comments! (And many apologies for the delay as I don't check our account every day!) :hug:

::hug: ^^^^ My pleasure! ^^ ^^

I know, right? OO Their eyes and mouths are so huge! That's true, especially in "Part of Your World"--and she's not very bubbly when Triton is destroying her stuff. D: ^^:  "Wistful or downcast", that sums it up for Ariel, certainly.

My pleasure again! It's amazing, the texture of the water, and how complex it is, and how you capture that is stunning. ^^ That's true, it's too limited to think of water just as blue, there's so many colors.

That's a relief. : D Thanks! Yeah, she was very bold and calm even while Ursula's scary magic is firing off all over the place. And traveling to the surface, she's certainly an explorer. ^^

No need to apologize! ^^ Non-internet stuff is very important! : D

I want to see The Little Mermaid crossed with Finding Nemo. NOW.

Totally agreed! There is so much potential for a crossover like that. Like Nemo and Flounder would so become BFF, and Dory would so get caught up in the musical numbers. Let's write Pixar and petition for a crossover! :P

Hahaha, no le preocupe. Comprendo el español; era mi concentración menor en la universidad, y viví en Venezuela brevamente. Y me parece que usted habla el inglés mejor que muchas personas en los EEUU :P

¡Muchas gracias! :D Me encanta que disfruta esta pintura <3
