Nike 2 by DoodleLyle Nike 2 by DoodleLyle
This is the second sketch in my "Nike" series. For the record, "Nike" is not just a shoe, but it also refers to a classical depiction of a winged female figure. Some people prefer to call them angels, but the Biblical definition of angel is literally "messenger from God". There are no Biblical descriptions of angels appearing as females, but are always either the form known as "cherubim" (not a baby, but a young man) or "seraphim" (a much more complex being, having three sets of wings covered with eyes, and sometimes faces like animals). So I've taken to calling these "nikes".

Frankly, I prefer to wear Chucks myself.

My wife thinks this is a well executed piece of work, but doesn't get the idea of an angel being surprised by something. I know I'm taking a huge chance with something my wife doesn't immediately say "Wow!" to. She's been my best barometer of what will be a hit and what won't.

Still, my intention is to put this piece in a gallery show here in my hometown next month.

I figure she's thinking something like "eww!"

Thanks for the comment, BTW. Haven't been getting a lot of those lately.
