Artwork copyright James E. Lyle. Back in the 1960s DELL Comics tried to cash in on the Batman craze and monster movie craze with a set of 3 super-monster books. Threatened with lawsuits from Universal and stymied by their own rushed schedule these books were cancelled within three issues. This illustration is going to be the cover to a reprint edition published by Mini-Comix in spring of 2015. I'll also be hawking prints around to shows. (BTW, I had no knowledge of this book until AFTER creating Wolfman. So I guess I'm more in touch with that era than I thought.) This Dracula was not a vampire, but a scientist who could change into a bat. He was really only beginning to get his groove when they canceled the series. His female side-kick, "Fleeta", was introduced in costume on the final page of that issue, but she deserved a better fate than that.
