Bark and Dichroic

Description

Pendant, about 3-1/2 inches wide, front and back views. This was made from a vey hard found piece of tree bark. I removed some of the back to make it flatter, and (because though the bark was very hard, it was deeply cracked) stabilized it with cyanoacrylic adhesive. I set a unique dichroic glass bead in the front, and filled the cracks with black glass microbeads (about 1 or 2 tenths of a millimeter in diameter) and cyanoacrylic adhesive, I drilled a the two ends of a cord tunnel down from the top to a pit carved in the back, and carved the rest of the back in spiraly patterns. The cord goes through a rectangular bone bead in the pit, which locks the cord in place. The appearance of the multiple bright multicolored reflections from the dichroic glass bead varies with the angle from which it is viewed, but they are visible from most directions. They look much better than seen here, as there is a lot of surface reflection from the scanner I used for these pictures.

Here is a better view of the dichroic bead:

I had no idea bark could be that strong! Is it lighter too, than a regular piece of wood?
