Wow... it's been a while since I've picked up a paint brush... seven months in fact. At this stage I think I would have been happy to finger-paint some stick people. This was a commission of an each-uisge for a website (each-uisge.com). This website is the (obviously fictional) diary on the life of the each-uisge (see below).

The each-uisge is a nightmarish demon from Scottish folklore. This bewitching creature disguises itself variously as a bird or handsome youth, though its main incarnation is as a magnificent horse with a mane of seaweed. Those who wish to possess it may be amazed by its willingness to let them ride it, at which point they find themselves bound to its back as if by glue. Prevented from escaping, they are dragged underneath the waters of a nearby loch and promptly devoured. The each-uisge isn't a fussy eater and gorges itself, but pate clearly isn't its thing, as the uneaten liver floats to the surface as the sole trace of its victim.

42 x 29cm, acrylic on illustration board.

Wow i love this pic it is truly amazing. Very mystical but yet life like. It reminds me of a painting i saw when i was a young kid. It was painting of white horses running through the water and again very mystical. The image of that pic has been in my mind ever since as it made such a big impression on me. I had never again saw a painting of horse/s quite like it untill now when i saw this. Love it, love it,love it. I only wish i could paint like this :-)

This is just incredible - I love the gloomy sort of colours and the horse/each-uisge is beautiful yet scary. :) The clouds and hills look awesome too! :D :+fav:

Beautiful painting, Donna, really! I've missed seeing your work very much.

The each-uisge itself would have made a darned good painting. Combined with the incredible scenery, it's knock-you-off-your-chair awesome. Combined with your vivid description of these creatures, it makes for more than viewing pleasure... More like an experience.

Your skill is especially apparent in how beautiful, exciting, and distinct everything in the scenery is despite the overwhelming amount of blue. It doesn't come off as repetitive or even monochromatic, somehow. :o Very, very puzzling, but impressive!

One detail I particularly like is the little twiggies sticking out of the water. They're a nice addition to the scenery and the style in which you've painted them adds enjoyably to the variety of textures in the piece. I love how they go from nicely detailed up close to artsy brush swipes further away. Wonderful work portraying their reflections, as well.

I am at once greatly in love with this painting, but also fearful for my liver! Truly incredible work. I hope to see more soon.

Thanks so much Peachfuzz. Now that I'm "back", I need to catch up on SO many people I watch. It's going to be scarier than any liver-hating horse, I can tell you that!
Anyway, thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment- I was wondering, do you ever break down and just leave a "woot!" or "awesome!" anywhere? Or is that against the Peachfuzziness code?
I'm glad you liked the twigs- I originally had a headland jutting out here and there, but repainted the whole thing and stuck the twigs in there. So it's nice to know they worked well!

(I've been offline for like two weeks, so forgive the late reply! ;p)

You're so welcome. I do occasionally leave simple, short comments when in a hurry or at a loss for long, descriptive blather. But your work inspires detailed comments every time!

Thanks very much for the kind comment. I think I looked at the paint tubes/ brushes, shook my head and made caveman noises when confronted once more by them after such a prolonged absence!
