Phew. This was pretty tough. Feedback please. I can't tell if it's good or really bad. Sorry about the file size. But i figured, you get what you pay for (in download time...).

Funny thing. In Photoshop, this tut is 2.5 metres long!

The lines don't have to connect. You can just create straight or curved paths of any size or shape, you don't have to make sure the two ends meet :)

Great tutorial. I've always wanted to try vector graphics but never knew where to start. You should've thrown more detail into designing the tires and lights because I didn't know where to start on those. Here's my attempt minus the lights, tires, and interior.

For the interior you can just do something like this [link] Just cut the windows out and make the hole left slightly lighter or darker depending on the background colour.

Wheels and lights took me at least a year to work out exactly how to do. I don't guarentee that after following the tutorial you're going to get immediately good :p It's gonna take a bit of practice first :) That mustang is pretty good, congrats!

Really fantastic tutorial you have done here. I had a basic idea how to do this, but you're more advanced than most people so you put a more professional spin on things and actually make it easier. I don't do this much, automotive things, but i want to find time to do it as i do love my cars. I also think i could apply this to my architectural designs :-) thankyou!

No no, thank you! I'm glad you think it's professionally done yet still easy to follow, that's really good to hear. Good luck with the cars and the architecture. I don't think i've heard of anyone using this tutorial for architecture so i'd be interested to see some of the results if possible :)

Ok thanks. Why do you say that "dangeruss would even be proud of such a tut imo"? This tutorial wasn't written to explain how to do his style of work if that's what you're saying. Sorry, just curious :)

i simply meant , that you have taken a passion of his , and givin others a chance to learn to one day follow in his and your footsteps ... this i think would make him proud.
me i'm a total beginner to things like this , but through great effort taken in a tut like this i now have some chance of learning ...

Oh right. I started this before Russ did, so it was he who took a passion of mine :) I'm very proud though that he found the stuff that myself and others did so interesting that he chose to start making the awesome pieces of art that he does now with his 'vexels'. It's nice to have such a respected and well-known member as Russ flying the flag for the tooning community.

Good luck with the tutorial, you must keep me posted with how things are coming along with it :)

well it may seem plain and simple when reading it, but its still being a fucking pain in the ass for me. i just wasted 2 hours outlining only to find the outline isnt dark enough and having no idea how to color the car :|

ok that wasnt needed... i was really pissed b/c i sat here for 2 hours only to find out i messed up.

but i have another question: how do you color the car without covering the lines up? lower the opacity and do a bunch of layers???
Reply
:icondonbenni:
donbenni Featured By Owner Sep 17, 2005
You put the colours beneath the lines in layers. Don't worry bout the previous comment i know it's not the simplest of processes!

is there a reason why at some points, the outline goes really light? you cant even see it near the front air dam of my s2000... but near the rear its visible :(

It seems you didn't heed my advice ;)

When you have your path that you want stroked, go to the paths window, right click on the work path and select stroke. Then select brush and DESELECT Simulate Pressure. Hope that sorts out the problem.

Great! I've always wondered how this art was done. I can see it isnt as hard as I had thought. It is kind of basic but I already have experiance in photoshop and in doing details so it Really helped me out. Thanks!!!

i think this tut is absolutly amazing. not only did you tell hints and ideas on how to improve your actuall work, like witht he pen toold and tips for highlighting and all.. but you also gave tips on how to spot a good image to use for this. making sure to point out how lighting plays a big part of it and the size is also something to consider. its good that you mention these things because they arent always goin throu the mind of the person who is wanting to learn. i think im goin to try my hand at this.. you did a very awesome job all in all.. with the tut and the image itself :aww:
