'You Can't Just Bubble Away Everything!' by DominickLuhr 'You Can't Just Bubble Away Everything!' by DominickLuhr
"I'm a crystal gem too! I deserve to be free and fight alongside you! You- you can't just bubble away everything! You pretend you fight the Diamonds' tyranny but you don't! You just stay here and avoid everything! This isn't what the crystal gems fight for. . .you bubble me away and don't give me a second chance! Why do those upper crusts in the barn get to stay and fight for you but Bismuth gets bubbled away forever?! I. . . I can't even call you crystal gems! You don't fight for anyone but yourselves!
Rose Quartz would be ashamed of you..! I'd know. . .
Go ahead and bubble me away again, bubble me away with all your other problems. Look at these gems! Our friends! They've been suffering for thousands of years while you avoid even bothering to help them! You're just as bad as homeworld, you don't deserve to call yourself crystal gems! You're frauds!"

Bismuth honestly deserved so much better. Lapis and Peridot have done horrible things and been a danger to the crystal gems and they get redeemed, but Bismuth gets bubbled away forever? And honestly? She was completely right about shattering the diamonds. If the diamonds were shattered then there wouldn't be any more colonies, no more gem experiments or forced fusions. The crystal gems just sit around and don't go after the diamonds unless the diamonds do something to earth. It's ridiculous! They should be taking homeworld head on (IF THEY COULD GET OFF THEIR BUTTS AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO HEAL CORRUPTION THEY'D HAVE AN ARMY) and stopping homeworld from colonizing any other planets. They only really care about earth, and even then, the diamonds are planning to come to earth again and the crystal gems aren't even preparing their defenses or anything. They're just wasting a month with Ronaldo.

I'm salty as hell.

Hmmm true.
Worst part is, Lapis wasn't even trying to be apart of either side of the war, and got screwed over by both.

While I agree that Bismuth deserved better and I'm glad she's getting better now, I disagree that shattering the diamonds would magically fix everything.
Rose only pretended to shatter Pink Diamond and that alone made everything worse, with the other Diamonds taking revenge in the nastiest way possible. And this is without mentioning the loyal soldiers like Jasper who would be furious at the deaths of their diamonds.
It doesn't matter that much now though. Bismuth is back and she's on the CG's side again ^_^

Dude, with Rose being Pink Diamond, it all makes sense. Rose didn't want Bis shattering the Diamonds, because they were her family. She loved them, even if they weren't always nice to her. So she made up this 'Every life is valuable' shit, so her followers wouldn't hurt them. Rose Diamond is a terrible person. But we all knew that already.

what happens if after the diamonds are shattered, other gems take their place and continue the killing? Take revenge on the crystal gems? A life for a life. If they talk down the diamonds the diamonds would talk down their followers.

Yeah honestly I hate that she was only introduced to show Steven what the opposite of "let's sit around and not do anything" is. Like, oh no! Bismuth actually wants to stop the war rather than sit around and let the Diamonds continue to enslave people, colonize planets, murder gems for small things and commit genocide of entire species! Granted, Bismuth was a little aggressive but I guarantee you if she was less angry more people would actually agree with her because she was right. The only real flaw with her character arc was that she got aggressive and angry, but the idea of shattering the diamonds is actually a really solid one. I just don't understand how the gems can preach pacifism and pretend they're morally correct they've also done violent things such as:
- Fight in a war already
- Use violence to poof corrupt gems (which, yeah, is a necessity, but fighting isn't exactly new to them)
- Beat the shit out of Jasper / Malachite
- Punch Peridot for being a brat

It's so hypocritical that the gems are like "Shattering gems is wrong!" but keeping them bubbled in stasis indefinitely is a great solution.

It is a better solution then being shattered. Shattered means being torn apart into dozens of little pieces. For a Gem that must be hell itself.

That being said, I understand why Steven disagreed with Bismuth and bubbled her but the time has come to bring her back and resolve some of these issues. It's mostly likely not gonna happen but a fan can dream.

I really don't understand why every single person has to say "being bubbled is better than being shattered." Like, yeah? In some ways it is. But - and I've used this analogy a million times - imagine if someone physically stabbed you / attacked you / beat you into a pulp, so you passed out, and then they induced you into a coma. The only way you could wake up from this coma is if THEY decided they want you to be awake. Bubbling is basically that - destroying a gem's physical form and then putting them into a stasis where they have no freedom, cannot feel or move or talk, and the only times they ever get to come out of that is when someone ELSE decides they can. The idea that bubbling is somehow a humane and okay thing to do just because the show doesn't want to deal with characters is so incorrect and lazy. Bubbling is basically "lets put this character into a coma and only wake them up when we feel like dealing with them."

Shattering gems is bad but I don't see how bubbling can be seen as such a positive and better alternative, considering the gems may NEVER decide to unbubble Bismuth, so she's basically dead anyways since she'll never come back and never be free or conscious again.

Shattering doesn't kill gems. The Gem Mutants are proof of that.

Imagine that coma but add to that the unending pain and agony of being shattered. Imagine what the Cluster is going through its a massive amount of gem shards slammed together. Imagine the pain and agony that Steven just felt coming off of it.

Shattered =/= killed

Shattered is permanent stasis with no hope for revival, an eternity of pain and anguish and emptiness. It's literally all 9 realms of hell slammed into one.

Of course, the obvious downside of being bubbled is not being un-bubbled for long stretches of time. The optimal way to use bubbling is to just temporary bubble a Gem until the the fight/war is over or if they are corrupted to find a way to heal them.

It is a far more humane option then being shattered. The bubbled Gem indeed has no freedom but as far as we know they aren't aware of being trapped so in that sense it's more like being in a very long sleep. Kinda like cryo-sleep. But yes, you can't just have a Gem be bubbled for eons and just leave them like that. That is also inhumane.

Only time will tell.

"as far as we know they aren't aware of being trapped" I mean, this can also be said about death? If you die instantly then you don't know you're dead. Doesn't make it okay or right - that gem is still being deprived of their freedom and ability to make their own decisions, even though they don't know they're bubbled if they're unbubbled they'll wake up in a different place and time, and with Bismuth, wake up to find all of their friends are dead or turned into monsters. I just don't understand what the gems think bubbling Bismuth will do, exactly. They're not working out a way to talk to her, they're not doing anything in preparation of her coming back, they just bubbled her away and plan on leaving her there for what seems like forever. I'd understand if they bubbled her and brought her back like a day later when things settled down and they were all around her and could talk to her calmly, but they literally just bubbled her away and don't care about her anymore (since she literally hasn't been mentioned since.)

At this point, if they brought Bismuth back it would be super illogical because there'd be no reason for them to. They made it clear they didn't feel like dealing with her so they bubbled her away, I dunno what they'd really experience to make them say "Oh! Let's unbubble Bismuth." 'Cause if one of them just happened to remember her existence and decide to unbubble her, I'd be pissed that they waited so long to do so. It feels like they got complete closure for Bismuth, which makes me so annoyed since these gems had known Bismuth for so long and considered her a close friend and ally in war, but had no problem bubbling her away.

But is being shattered the same as being dead like we (presumably) experience it? If I'm not mistaken their own consciousness is shattered into dozens of smaller pieces that can't be reforged. It's must be an eternal torture for them. That's why bubbling them is the more humane option. It's still isn't entirely humane as yes they are still hold against their will and if left unattended (like with Bismuth) they would be in an eternal sleep forever or wake up thousands of years later not knowing what happened in the time that passed.

That is the problem IF they decide they un-bubble Bismuth now. Granted Steven has learned that his mother wasn't the paragon of justice that he thought she was and he has own doubts now (which sometimes they touch upon yet other times it's just forgotten) so he could un-bubble Bismuth and tell her about what he learned and how he feels. It would still be way too late of course but at the very least the status quo would finally change again.

Yes, bubbling shattered gems is more humane - I never denied that. But bubbling perfectly fine gems just because you don't agree with them? Or bubbling corrupted gems for god knows how long because you only try and heal them once every season in the show or so? I'm sure if the gems actually sat down and TRIED to heal corrupted gems they'd be able to do it (which is probably what's gonna happen - they're gonna resolve that issue in one or two episodes when it's good for the plot, no matter how illogical the timing or how late they are to figure it out.)

I really do hope Bismuth comes back but I also really don't think she should because I'd hate for the show to be like "Bismuth is back again! She forgave the gems for bubbling her away and not caring for a few seasons! Everything is perfectly fine and now she's gonna be part of the team!" If they managed to just sort out their disagreements with Bismuth they'd have someone who can forge weapons for the rebellion (which also is an issue I have - she made them weapons and nobody besides Amethyst has even used theirs? I thought they cared about Bismuth and appreciated and loved their weapon enhancements?), as well as another strong gem to help them. They keep getting stuck in positions where they're on the losing end of a fight and somehow make it out alive and are the underdogs but they wouldn't HAVE to be the underdogs if they would use their wits and actually put the time and effort to gain more allies.

Healing corrupted gems would mean they have an entire army of gems to fight for them (some of the corrupted gems are on Homeworld's side but I seriously doubt they'd want to fight for Homeworld again after they were turned into monsters by their own leaders). I feel like the crew realized they wouldn't be able to animate / design / voice / make characters for all the corrupt gems so they're just going to leave them be and not resolve the issue. And once they DO resolve the issue it's gonna be some cop-out like "Oh! We have an army of healed gems with tons of potential for characters and designs and cool dynamics! But oh nooooo, they were all shattered in battle so now we don't have to change the status quo!" There's SO MUCH they could do with corruption once it's healed yet they don't even seem to care anymore.

There's been THIRTY episodes since "Monster Reunion" - which was the last episode they even bothered to try to heal corruption, which WORKED somewhat. I find it so confusing that they were like "Oh! You gave us a glimmer of hope in healing our disfigured and monstrous friends! We might be getting closer to a solution! Who cares though lets waste god knows how long with episodes like 'Rocknaldo' where we spend a month goofing off with a human." I don't MIND filler or human-centered episodes but when they have seriously important plot lines that are time-sensitive it feels so out of place and illogical for them to spend so much time on random human things. I don't understand why they've spent 3,600 years after the gems were corrupted and only tried to heal them a handful of times. After losing all but a handful of your friends and allies, you'd figure they'd at least care a little more and try and help them somewhat? Its so strange that they've been dilly-dallying and procrastinating when there's so many more important issues at hand.
