AH - Elisabeta Islands - Romanian Kiribati by Dom-Bul AH - Elisabeta Islands - Romanian Kiribati by Dom-Bul
Another "alternate colony" scenario. This time a bit unusual colonizer: Romania
At the start of the 19th century, reknowned Romanian explorer Bazil Assan sailed the Pacific Ocean in search for unclaimed islands. He took possession of some and claimed them in the name of Carol I, the king of Romania, unfortunately the project never took off because of a lack of funds.
But what if the colonies were instead established?
This is my take on what the Romanian Pacific colony could have been. I've chosen Kiribati, as these islands were one of last to be claimed, and renamed it Elisabeta Islands, in honour of the Romanian queen Elisabeta. Some names were adapted to the Romanian language, and the others were just changed to names of explorers or regents.
Today the Elisabetas are an overseas department of Romania, a situation that resembles French Polynesia.
...I still don't know how to handle the fact that Romania lost WW2 and went communist, maybe they would be a useful outpost for the USSR in the Pacific... althought it would be very unlikely that they would be given back to Romania after 1991, as they would eventually become their own state.
Anyway I hope you like it

Beh forse proprio il fatto che diventa comunista le permette di mantenere le isole tramite l’intercessione dell’URSS che avrebbe un avamposto veramente niente male nel Pacifico…
Molto interessante comunque! ^^
