1.- Hello, and welcome to 20 Questions with Fourth Wall Magazine! What is your real name and nickname?
Magnette: Is it really alright to tell them our identities, mother?
Lodestone: This is a special case, sweetie. I am the superhero Lodestone. My full name is Nadira Rajendran.
Magnette: And I am her sidekick Magnette, though my real name is Anya. It is a pleasure to meet you!
2.- Very Nice to meet you, what is your current age?
Lodestone: That is... somewhat impertinent, but very well. I am 38 years old.
Magnette: I turned 9 just a few months ago!
3.- What is your alignment in the great never-ending battle of good and evil?
Lodestone: We stand firmly on the side of good. Though we were granted these powers by chance, it is our responsibility to use them proactively to improve the lives of those around us.
Magnette: Yes! Steelboro has many problems, but solving the ones we are able to makes the city a much nice place to live!
4.- What is the origin of your powers?
Magnette: My mother said that there was a strange event on the night that I was born, and we both gained magnetic powers from it!
Lodestone: I am afraid that the occurrence has yet to be explained, nor has it repeated since that night.
5.- Fascinating! Now, superpowers and such aside, what do you feel is your greatest strength as a character?
Lodestone: Determination, without a doubt. When life is uncertain, an iron will and a willingness to constantly move forward are what inspire confidence in the public for their heroes.
Magnette: Optimism! When you are filled with hope, the people around you gain comfort and peace of mind!
6.- Here's what may be a bizarre question: What kind of Universe do you exist in? Is it serious? Comical? Sexy? Noir? Horror?
Lodestone: You are quite right, that is a bizarre question. Well... if you are asking what sort of missions we undertake, they do vary based on the criminals responsible. For someone such as Lady Libertine... it is quite a serious matter. She is manipulative and controls others through their vices.
Magnette: But there are some funny ones too! Those criminals Dr. Diode and Alloy frustrate themselves most of the time that they try to attack us!
Lodestone: There is one rather, erm... irritating constant. In the cases where we are defeated, our opponents leave us bound and gagged without fail. I do not know how to categorize this, nor do I wish to.
Magnette: I see that quite a lot on TV too. Those villains must watch a lot of TV!
7.- A lot of super-people have certain recurring elements of tragedy in their background. The readers would like to know if you do as well. For instance, are your parents still alive and/or did you come from a destroyed planet? Stuff like that.
Lodestone: It is more a risk of tragedy than any past or ongoing tragedy that drives us. Our inaction could lead to the misfortune of others, especially in the state that the city is currently in. Crime was at its highest rate recorded on the year that we first began fighting crime.
Magnette: Our only tragedy is spending all of our free time training our magnetic powers. It is necessary but it gets so repetitive.
8.- Who made your costume?
Lodestone: This is a bit of an embarrassing story...
Magnette: But Mr. Klopstock is so funny!
Lodestone: He... alright, I'd better explain. I first started out as a superhero when Anya was still very young, and Steelboro was desperately in need of a hero at that time. My priority in designing a costume at that time was public recognition, both to be recognized as a hero and recognized at a distance. I reached out to other heroes and they directed me to a man named Konrad Klopstock. He is... quite eccentric, I think it would be fair to say without insulting him. Mr. Klopstock has designed costumes for heroes for nearly fifty years now, and was very enthusiastic to design such a suit for me. It is a bit... well... provocative, perhaps, but Mr. Klopstock assured me that my public image would be immensely popular, and he was not wrong in the slightest. His work is quite exceptional, but he is wholly scatterbrained, and kept having to take my measurements over and over again.
Magnette: And he made sure that my costume matched my mother's to make us a proper superhero pair! Every time he looked at her for reference, his head nearly spun like an owl's!
9.- Do you have siblings?
Magnette: No, sir! I'm a single child!
Lodestone: As was I, though both cases sprung from necessity. I need to devote myself fully to protecting the city, helping Anya develop her powers, and working my day job. My parents immigrated to America when I was very young and wanted to be sure they could support the family they already had.
10.- What is your biggest fear/ worst nightmare?
Lodestone: Losing everything that I have worked for... and for it to be my fault. My family, my city, everything.
Magnette: I'm afraid of... failing badly even when I try my hardest. It just wouldn't be fair...
11.- Are you a solo act, or part of a team?
Magnette: We are a team, of course!
Lodestone: Although we do get help occasionally from the Steel Stars and other hero groups from outside Steelboro, Anya and I are capable of handling most day-to-day threats.
12.- Who is your worst enemy and why?
Lodestone: Lady Libertine, without a doubt. She is everything that I dread in an opponent: cunning, connected, experienced, adaptable, and above all persistent. No matter how often or how close we come to defeating her, she always has contingencies.
Magnette: And she tricks people into harming themselves with her powers. She's the worst!
13.- Huh, okay. interesting. Then, who is your best friend?
Lodestone: Hmm... probably Cathy Doyle, a friend of mine from my days in the District Attorney's office. She is quite a spirited woman.
Magnette: Moonbeam! She goes to the same school as me, but she is also a superhero with the Steel Stars!
14.- Confession time; Who is your lover?
Lodestone: My husband Arjun, of course. He is a kind and dedicated man, and though he holds no superpowers, he helps the city in his own way.
Lodestone: You are too young for lovers, betee.
15.- Existential question: What would you do if you could ever meet your creator?
Lodestone: ...I would ask him to kindly leave us out of his bizarre ideas. Though I do admit... he does keep the world a lighthearted place, generally.
Magnette: I would thank him for letting good always win over evil in the end!
16.- What is your lifelong dream?
Magnette: I want to become a scientist when I grow up, as well as to keep being a hero!
Lodestone: My dreams are to raise a family and to protect this city from its growing supervillain population. I suppose my career in law began as a way to protect the city, but gaining superpowers allowed me to protect it more directly.
17.- What would you do if your dream came true?
Lodestone: Would that it were possible, I would be relieved to retire. My days off are far and few between.
Magnette: If I became a scientist, then I would discover things that nobody ever believed were possible!
18.- As a character, do you have any personal demons or overarching regrets that haunt you?
Lodestone: None yet, very fortunately. The burden of potential failure is sobering enough when we face our foes.
Magnette: Me either, and I hope we never do.
19.- What does your "secret identity" do for work?
Lodestone: I am the mayor of the city of Steelboro. Did I not mention that earlier? It is quite a strenuous job, but it can be very rewarding.
Magnette: I am still in school, but other than that, I don't have a secret identity!
20.- Last question, and it's a DOOZY for a super: What is the WEIRDEST thing that has happened to you?
Magnette: Oh, mother, tell them about the one time with Dr. Diode!
Lodestone: Ah yes, that was quite bizarre. This criminal, Dr. Diode, had invested heavily in magnetic shielding for his robot army, power armor, capture chamber, and the rest of his headquarters as well. He had us bound together in this chamber and had hoped to get petty revenge of some kind, and so he supercharged Anya with one polarity and me with the other while building a power surge around us. I do not know what he had intended to happen, but it essentially released an EMP that shut down the entirety of his base and released us all at once. After that, we simply carried him to the police and confiscated his equipment.
Magnette: He was so angry that he only spluttered and grumbled to himself for the entire trip to the police!
Lodestone: Indeed, it was quite a strange affair all in all.
Done! Now tag some people!
Make it extra fun and suggest specific OCs of theirs that you want to know more about!
And so I tag for his heroine Volthena
Moonbeam was mentioned in the responses, she belongs to
