Last look out the window. by DocMallard Last look out the window. by DocMallard
This was taken from the gallows at the old Wyoming Penitentiary in Rawlins.

The guest of honor was allowed to look out the window at the mountains while waiting for the drop to activate.

This looked like an interesting shot with the bright light through the window.

Wow, this one is really cool, conceptually and artistically. How eerie to be in a a place like that.

Yes, I agree and that must have been a nice effect, hearing the water run out just as their last few seconds of life would. (Sorry, just a mildly sadistic thought.)
I don't think that anyone deserves to feel the guilt of taking another's life no matter how much that other person might have deserved it.. it will all catch up to that person psychologically sooner or later. That is good that it eliminated a heavy conscience for the potential executioner... at least the inventor had somewhat good intentions in mind.

Very interesting contrast in that picture: the calm of the mountains and the suspense of death. ...I doubt too many "honored guests" found solace in that last view they were granted though.

They didnt deserve any solace. They were some pretty bad boys!

When they stood on the drop, their weight turned on a valve that activated the drop. They did get to listen to the water run out in the bucket underneath them. Probably not any solace there either.

It was felt that it wasnt good for any honest man to have to activate the drop on these dirtbags. That is why the water trigger was used.
