Hello, and welcome to the very first edition of Digitalists new interview series:

Behind the Screens: Digital Art Masters

Through these interviews, we will get an in-depth look into the minds
and careers of DeviantART's most influential digital artists.

Today's featured artist is LadyEvilArts

Leticia Saveljeva is a professional artist from St. Petersburg Russia. She began her career
as a self-taught digital artist and at the moment, is taking classes to elevate her art to the
next level. In college, she majored in foreign language but spent all of her free time learning
how to design. Ultimately, she decided to pursue a career in the arts and is currently employed at a local company for miscellaneous design work.

Has a career in the Arts always been a dream of yours?
What level of success do you hope to achieve?

No, actually. I just wanted to be able to express my ideas and feelings, so I started to learn
Photoshop. One day I realized it’s my drug, and my decision to make art a career was quite
predictable, though it wasn’t supported by my relatives. It’s hard for me to speak of success,
because what is success? How much money I earn? How skilled I am? How many fans I have? I just don’t know how to measure success, so I would say, I hope to be successful enough to be able to do what I love.

As a photo-manipulation artist, do you have any advice for
picking quality stock providers? Who do you recommend?

Browse, look closer, there’s no magic button for quality stock.
Stockers who I strongly recommend to watch are:

I love her stocks...proper lighting, interesting poses and great expressions.
She has some great material to work with!

A lot of lovely stocks...urban, nature, animals.
She has a large gallery to choose from!

Everybody likes well-cutout stock and in their gallery you’ll find
many of this kind!

Was there ever a time where art helped you through a difficult event in your life?

Talking about particular I like to create with a clear mind, but it helps me
everyday. Taking a step down the art path has made me see things in a different way.
Inspiration is everywhere and without this vision, my life would be dull.

As a professional digital artist, what advice can you give to those
who are trying to become successful in the business?

First, don’t listen to people who say you can’t do it. There will always be people who will tell
you things like “you’re not creative enough”, “too much competition today”, “you’re too old to
learn new profession” etc. Just ignore them and keep on doing what you like! Imagine how
you’ll be shaking your fists in front of their faces when you finally reach your goal!
Second, keep on improving your skill! You can never be too good!

There are a lot of people in the community who think receiving a Daily Deviation
is essential for achieving popularity on DeviantART. From experience,
how much would you say getting awarded Daily Deviations has
impacted your success on this site?

A Daily Deviation is a very pleasant thing to get, but it’s only a one day feature. It may make
one of your deviations popular, but not you. Yes, some watchers are added to the list, but still I think people will rather add you when your gallery is filled with quality and original art, than if you have only one good piece, even DD awarded. From my experience, I gained more
popularity from contests (though it wasn’t my aim when I entered them), than from DD's.

Name three influential artists on DeviantART whose works
inspire you and tell us why you look up to them.

He creates something beyond my understanding using textures like no one here, I think!
Both concept and execution are excellent, original and inspiring!

I’m her fan since my first day on DA! She creates dark conceptual pieces with
a great amount of details and her work is absolutely mesmerizing!
She has truly created her own dark yet magic universe!

He creates fantastic scenery manipulations! I can easily imagine myself
traveling to one of the worlds he created!
