Appearance

Eclipsarch’s Elegy is an otherworldly bow, shaped of swirling aether and moonlit obsidian, traced with shifting constellations. It has no visible string, yet when drawn, a thread of crackling starlight forms. Arrows loosed from it leave glowing trails like comet tails, and a faint chime echoes with each shot—a mournful note lost in the void.

Weapon Stats

• Type: Longbow (1d8 piercing damage, range 150/600 ft.)

• Bonus: +3 to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon

• Ammunition: Requires no arrows (see Stellar Arrows)

• Requires Attunement: Ranger, druid, or cleric

Properties

1. Stellar Arrows

The bow conjures arrows of starlight when drawn. These magical arrows deal an additional 1d8 radiant damage on a hit. They disappear after impact and cannot be recovered.

2. Lunar Veil (3/long rest)

As a bonus action, you may enshroud yourself in a shimmering veil of lunar magic for 1 minute:

• You become heavily obscured to all creatures beyond 30 feet.

• You gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

• Ranged attacks made while under this effect deal an extra 1d6 cold damage.

3. Celestial Smite

When you score a critical hit with this bow, the arrow explodes in a silent nova of starlight. The target and all creatures within 10 feet must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of their next turn. Affected creatures take an additional 3d6 radiant damage, or half on a success.

4. Eclipse Shot (1/long rest)

You can fire a single black arrow of void-matter that splits the heavens. Choose a point you can see within range. All creatures in a 30-foot cone extending from you to that point must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or take 6d10 radiant damage, halved on a success. The area is then engulfed in magical twilight (as darkness) for 1 minute.

Sentience

Eclipsarch’s Elegy is a sentient neutral good weapon.

• Intelligence 14, Wisdom 18, Charisma 15

• Languages: Celestial, Elvish, and communicates telepathically with its wielder

• Personality: Graceful and reserved, like moonlight on snow. It prefers careful, noble action, and abhors cruelty or wasteful violence. It urges the wielder to protect the innocent and watch from afar like a silent guardian.

Legend & Lore

The bow was said to be gifted by Selûne, the Moonmaiden, to her final mortal sentinel before retreating from the mortal realm. Wielded in defense of the eladrin temples during the Fall of Everhollow, the bow vanished with its last wielder, a guardian named Caelion Starveil, whose body was never found—only stardust remained.

Now, it has reappeared in the night sky’s reflection upon a sacred pool, as if longing once more for a hand worthy of its mournful elegance.

Destruction

To destroy Eclipsarch’s Elegy, it must be fired at the heart of a star during its death throes—an act that may tear a hole in the firmament and awaken forgotten stellar gods.
