Hello everyone! (And I do mean everyone who is interested in this group :D)

Sorry to spam everyone with journals, but things are getting problematic so I have no choice, haha.

So this is the situation now:
- Two people have dropped out and one person hasn't submitted anything for the last round and this round (though that might change), which means two participants are left.
- I have guest participants who wanted to draw for a round and I know that there are people who'd like to join next cycle who didn't make it this cycle.
- As I figured, a month+ is too long a deadline because people are forgetting and I have gathered from many comments that people don't use this time "wisely" so to say.
Simply put, this whole cycle is turning out to be a bit of a mess.

The dilemma:
What to do? Since this is a group focussed on getting people to draw and providing feedback, I am leaving it up to the members. Please answer the following questions:

1) Would you mind if I cut this cycle short?
2) Would you be up for a change of format?*
3) How much time would you like for assignments and why?
4) Would it help if I posted reminders every week with the deadline?
5) What do you think should change in order to get more people to join / be comitted to the group?

*I don't know what I'd change exactly, but I might change things based on the answers given.

Thank you for your time and have a beautiful day!

1) I agree with the rest that it's the best to let the participants of this cycle decide.
I'll be looking forward to provide feedback for anyone that applies his/her entry. ^>^

2) utenafangirl's idea seems really interesting! "Time will always be a factor =/ why not do fast rounds and have sketch battles instead of fully rendered photos (unless you want to) in a short amount of time (maybe a week) and save it for the semi finals which may have a month? That way it gives us more people and more time to go through the cycle without loosing too much interest because rendered photos gets demanding and tiring for those that lacks the time???"
I thought of something similar (Even though it seems less original now =P). We could do quick cycles (preliminaries) with sketch battles and the winners will then 'finish' their sketches/drawings for the finals. That way it would take less time/effort to apply and draw and hopefully this will attract more participants for each cycle.
All participants receive feedback on their sketches. The winners can use the feedback to improve their drawing and finish it for the finals. It might be interesting to set appropriate 'guidelines' (according to the stage of the cycle) that we will give points for. (Kinda like how it works now <3) For example:
Preliminaires (Time; a week)
- How well the details of the assignment were integrated in the drawing. (character, background, opponent, other circumstances)
- The overall composition of the drawing.
- The originality of the idea
*More detailed drawings receive bonus points.
Finals (Time, 3 weeks. Total; a month)
- Use of materials (Skill, use of color/B&W, light and shadow)
- Composition and framing.
- The characters, interaction and background
* BONUS How well did the participant use feedback from the preliminaries to improve the drawing? (if necessary)
* BONUS Does the drawing look complete/finished? (Extra points for the amount of details)
In the event that a winner backs down from the Finals, you could still ask the runner up (in point total) to take his place. Since all of the participants made a sketch (that I hope they want to win with), they'll have an opportunity (or more motivation) to finish their entry. If people made sketches which don't apply for the finals, but do want to finish it when they have more time, that would be great. Since we can fill the galleries of Disidia Aces with those. If wanted, those people could then still receive feedback from others and us judges ;)

Also, we could make Poll's or something similar in Journals, were you can choose or mention specific things you would like to improve/receive feedback on.The topic that receives the most votes could then be turned into a 'tutorial-like cycle'*
(for example: How to draw Cloud/Sora/etc, drawing dynamic poses, how to draw perspective or special effects) * It's up to you if this should have a competitive factor to it or not.
The  'tutorial/skill improvement cycle's' main objective should be to share tips/advice and feedback with each other to improve specific drawings skills. During the cycle the participants will practice drawing those and will receive in-depth feedback on those sketches. The result of the cycle should be
a finished drawing with visible improvement in that skill. This way we might inspire artist who feel insecure about their skills to join and draw as well. (I hope)

And how about doing 'Collab's or Collab cycle's? Team up with someone, or the judges will make interesting pairs (based on earlier entries?!) for cycles and compete with Collabs! he assignments could be things like:
- Double battles, every team-member draws one character and they have to work together to draw and defeat their opponent. (*Bonuspoints for good teamwork and original combo attacks). Teams have to decide if they will 'split' the drawing or if they wish to divide the drawing proces in for example: line art - coloring. Or the judges choose to make those options 'guidelines' for the specific cycle. (Time; a month)
- VS, The judges, volunteers (!? =D ) or preferably all of us as a community, will draw different backgrounds to fight in. When they are done, teams will be chosen. Every team gets a 'battle ground' to fight on and specifics about how 'it will overlap'. So, two people work on one drawing. Artist A gets to work on the left and artist B on the right side of the frame, without knowing what the other will do. When the entries are done, the judges will 'merge' the 2 drawings into one and give points to each contestant for his/her entry. The 'final images' are then uploaded to the gallery, so everyone can see the final results. (Time; 1 or 2 weeks)
I have no idea if these plans/ideas will work, so please let me know what you think about it ^>^'

3. About the deadlines. I'm okay with 3 weeks or a month, especially for detailed drawings. But if we consider doing short cycles as well (like I explained above), then a week time for those. If we combine and plan that well, it could be a short and a long cycle in a (or every?) month.

4. Reminders should be helpful to let people know what's going on on DA, so I'm good with that.
5. I have several ideas, but I'm not sure if they're that 'good'. ^>^'
- We could put more variation in the Cycle assignments. Like explained in point 2, we could vary with short cycles (preliminaries), a long cycle (the finals), 'Collab cycles' and 'tutorial cycles'.
- It would be nice if there's more activity on Dissidia Aces, with frequently posted Journals, cycles to participate in and of coarse lots of artwork.
This might attract new people and keep DA more interesting for you/us.
Maybe decide if we want to update things frequently and host (short) cycles every month (?!) and/or if we plan the (long) cycles in vacations/weekends so participants have more time to work on it.
- It might be interesting to 'reward' the members who are really dedicated to Dissidia Aces, by featuring their entries/artwork in a Journal and such.
We could do those every month or something like that?
- Maybe all of us, could put a Dissidia Aces link/tag icon or whatever in our profiles/messages/tagline (or however those are called)? And of coarse, spreading the word ourselves.
- Going TUMBRL could work.
- It might be nice to have more judges/ people that can help with organizing/mentoring and frequently updating stuff. Especially if we want to do lots of different cycles and KaigaraProjects and I might be too busy from time to time.

It's a lot of tekst I spammed you all with here, so thanks for reading!
Well, I certainly hope that there's something that will work.
Let me know what you guys think about it/ how you feel about my ideas.

Have a nice day!

Your ideas sound great, sweetie :) I'll make a file with everyone's ideas and send it to you so we can start looking at it. Then, when we've decided on things, we can make another journal and let the people here help us decide the best things!

I have terrible experiences with other judges though so I don't know how well that will work, haha. *shot dead*

1) Either way is fine, tbh. It really depends on the participants, too. If they agree on starting this anew, then we could do that. You already know that I'm eager to join, but waiting is no problem for me if you want to continue the cycle.

2) Not sure what the change would be, but.. uh.. sure?

3) 1 month maximum, I'd say. 1 month is more than enough. Actually I don't think anyone needs more than a few days to finish a drawing; the only reason why there is so much time for the assignment is so that people can decide for themselves when to draw. The longer, the higher the probability to forget about it, though. 3-4 weeks is probably the best bet here with no extended deadlines. When it's around a busy time like holidays or end of school year (because everyone has to learn for exams), you could even add ~2 weeks.

4) Personally I won't need the reminders, but I also don't mind them.

5) the tumblr thing will definitely help the group to attract more attention, seeing how popular it is and how many artist are there (that aren't active on dA). Though for that you might need to dig deeper into the Final Fantasy community of tumblr, which.... frankly... isn't always so pleasant lol.

I... don't go into fandoms on Tumblr because very few of them are pleasant xD

I only just saw this now, and I had just finished my entry. *facepalm*

Well, I think reminders might help, some people(me included) are forgetful. I think a month is plenty of time to draw for the round and for change? Maybe have a bonus round to allow some crossovers? I know this is Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts characters only, but maybe put them in a different setting from another game or movie, or have a character from another game or movie fighting, I think that would be interesting.

1) I wouldn't mind if it was short, but I'm not sure if I can join another cycle anytime soon.
2) Sure, change is good. I don't really have any ideas at the moment.
3) A month sounds good, even though the cycles would take longer, but if it means it would give everyone a chance to submit something, I'm down.
4) I personally never needed a reminder, but I I don't mind.
5) I like the tumbler idea you guys are talking about. I know a lot of artists have moved over there. I have an account myself that I haven't really used.

oke, here goes:

1) Would you mind if I cut this cycle short?
Not really, tbh i agree with the others here, there's not a lot we can do about that

2) Would you be up for a change of format?
Yeah I'm up for trying anything new as long as it makes it interesting

3) How much time would you like for assignments and why?
A month is fine, just need to actually do the piece aha

4) Would it help if I posted reminders every week with the deadline?
This would help me especially as I am sure it would help the others, as I said in the last post I got tied up with uni work and forgot completely -.-"

5) What do you think should change in order to get more people to join / be comitted to the group?
I think promotion on other websites may help? I don't think dA is as popular as it used to be, meaning that less people are gonna see the tournament. Would it be possible to do a cross-site Dissidia Aces?

Hope this helps, I know you're trying ^^

So far everyone would like to have reminders, so that's definitely going to be in the next cycle, haha.

I was thinking of making a Dissidia Aces on Tumblr as well and see whether we might get some more people to join there because DeviantART is indeed not as popular anymore. If you have ideas for other sites, please let me know because I'm not really sure which websites are popular and would help to showcase everyone's work.

Thanks for your reply! :D

1) Would you mind if I cut this cycle short?
- Not at all, since not much people are interested anyway, it seems. (Is it okay if I still get feedback for my second entry, though? You could say I'm in this mainly for the feedback after all :P )

2) Would you be up for a change of format?
- I'm okay with this, too. I thought it was interesting how the new rounds were structured so that the battles still get interesting despite only us five competing.

3) How much time would you like for assignments and why?
- A month is actually okay already. Three week suggestion is also long enough, but I also don't get to do fandom stuff weekdays, so that leaves four weekends, but it's okay.

4) Would it help if I posted reminders every week with the deadline?
- It would. It's actually a great effort on your part as organizer, so allow me to thank you as early as now for it.

5) What do you think should change in order to get more people to join / be comitted to the group?
- Maybe the release of a new game (especially a new Dissidia, but maybe XV hahah), but it depends on the people. Maybe people don't want to draw much these days.

Would it help if we had a Tumblr for this for promotion purposes? We could attract more people that way.

1) Would you mind if I cut this cycle short? Nope, not at all. Do what's best for the group.

2) Would you be up for a change of format? Sure ^^ keeping things fresh and interesting should motivate people.

3) How much time would you like for assignments and why? To me, 3 weeks between fights should be more than enough to come up with a good drawing.

4) Would it help if I posted reminders every week with the deadline? I am terrible when it comes to remember things, so that'd help others like me I guess.

5) What do you think should change in order to get more people to join / be comitted to the group? I think, since the Dissidia hype is low, we might not see any new members until the new Dissidia comes out outside Japan. Then I think we will see new challengers :)

I'm not in this cycle but I was in the past 4. I'll probably participate to the next (or the one after) cycle again, so I'll answer to the questions as well.

1) Would you mind if I cut this cycle short?
It seems that not a lot of people are really motivated in this cycle, I don't know why. But I think that the "cut short" has to be choosed by the participants of this cycle.

2) Would you be up for a change of format?
I prefered the first format: Participant will be out when they loose. It make less drawing to do. And as it takes really long to make one, if we only have 4-5 to draw is better. And if people want to do more, they can still participate to the next cycle. And it avoid to keep people that will never send anything (because they are always some people like that in each cycle).

3) How much time would you like for assignments and why?
For me 1 month is the best. I know that it will always have some people that will do their drawing at the last moment. It will never change. Everybody use the time they have like they want. If some people needs only one week, and deciede to do it the last week, it's their choice. For me it's clear, I'm working the whole day 5/7 days per week. And I finish too late to draw during the week. So I can only work on it the week-end. And I also have to see my friends and family sometimes (that's why I didn't participate this time, my family told me I was a "no life" during these past years because of this tournament). So I can't work on my submission the complete week-end also. That's why I need a month.

4) Would it help if I posted reminders every week with the deadline?
I think yes, for sure. As some people will do it the last minute, they will need remainders ;p

5) What do you think should change in order to get more people to join / be comitted to the group?
I don't know. Every year we are less to join. The first Cycle we were more than 70 (perhaps even 90), and every time it's less. This Cycle was really too low, and I'm not sure it will be better the next time. I tried to speak about this art tournament to a lot of people, but I think that everybody have to do it ;p

I hope it will help, even if I'm not in this cycle ;p

I know you were one of the people who needed a month, which is why I kept it that way even though others did it last minute. Since everyone so far seems to like the idea of reminders, though, I can probably keep the month deadline for future cycles (depending on whether or not I change the format). The first format was nice, yes, but I'll have to see how that would work with very few participants xD

Part of the reason the group was big in the beginning was because Kura and the other two were popular and were able to get the word out. Do you remember all those amazing artists that joined the first cycle? I sure do. I doubt participation will increase and I have thought of discontinuing the group, but I don't want to let this go to waste so I'm trying to find ways to make it fun for every member here :'D I don't know how I'll do that, but I'll figure something out with everyone's help.

Your input is very helpful! Thank you very much!
