I've noticed that good photographs are more challenging to take with compact cameras. Do you know why? It's because of the lack of bokeh. I've noticed that even poorly composed photos could look good if bokeh is present.
With compacts, you have to worry about the spatial composition of the subject as well as the spatial composition of the background. If you DON'T take the background into consideration, you could have a pretty ugly photo. Doesn't matter if the subject is JESUS, himself. If the background is cluttered, the photo would suck. If the spatial composition isn't right, the photo would suck.
