I was trying to explain to someone once that Cthulhu is sexy in that he's big, and undeniable, and will do with you and your world whatever he wants. Like LUST itself - personified. Not that anyone could have actual sex with the bugger. But he's the distillation of what lust can do to perfectly rational folks - when they do things they look back on and wonder 'that the literal hell did I just do'.
