He is Risen

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. "He is not here; He is risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying." - Matthew, 28:1-6

Happy Easter! Biggest holiday in Christianity, when He triumphed over Death and rose from the dead. I was an altar server last night for the Easter Vigil, and was chosen to carry the Easter Candle, which is the heaviest object known to man. In all seriousness, though, it really was a magical mass. Starting out by the fire, then processing into the church and all the singing, and getting to wear the white alb (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alb)... it was awesome.

I drew this picture last night. It's one of my favorite parts in the Bible, when the women come to the tomb and find the angels sitting there. I drew the Archangels Gabriel and Raphael (sorry, Michael. I still love you!), mainly because I love the Archangels. They're so awesome, and I pray for their intercession as often as I can. I imagine that the women were terrified by the appearance of these two beautiful, shining, unearthly men. They stand, shocked, as Gabriel, his beauty shining like a star, gestures to the tomb and says, "He is not here; He is Risen." Raphael points upward, emphasizing Gabriel's words.
