Upbringing among Mer-Wolves Chapter 6Luncheon Mirari and Mowgli ran close together running through the jungle as fast they could. They had to make it back to the shack quickly for Moon had to hear about the visitors that would soon come upon the island that had long been without anyone besides them all these years. With a Ship that was one of such tremendous size it was not a simple galleon it was one the biggest Mirari ever had seen and ships that size always carried a tremendous amount of people in them. But the Ship had no banner or flag indicating the purpose of the ship or the nation or tribe they represent. No one ever flew a ship without that, and no flag meant it could be someone of hostility towards others but there was no answer to that theory only that Moon needed to know about this and fast.“Hurry Mowgli we have to get home!” Mirari called behind to her son who was trying his best to keep up. He was always well in shape but a wolve was always faster than a man even if was a Mer-wolve on land. “I’m trying, Mom!” Mowgli shouted back as he panted heavily desperately trying to stay up with his mother. He was concerned about the mysterious visitors themselves. Who were they? His Parents once took him far out into sea where he could watch ships pass by from a considerable distance upon a tiny raft. He always enjoyed seeing the ships of small sizes to gargantuan. Moon would often explain to him about how a ship can serve any kind of purpose. Some were use for trading of goods or people. Some were meant for warfare and support. Other ships were sometimes the very home of a few people that desired their place out in sea away from rules of kingdoms and countries to live a life as entirely of their own. Similar to how they live upon an island that had yet to be claimed or even marked upon any map.Mowgli learned well from Moon as he always had done and tried to get a good look upon the Galleon that destroyed his board which still upset him greatly. He had so much fun on that board and his father made it for him with his bare hands he could be angry with him for letting it happen which worried him. Rarely has he ever seen his parents upset and never once did anything to cause them to be angry with him but when they showed any signs of being upset they were scary to even look at. Most of the time it was the sight of their son that caused their anger to cease. They never wanted to see him afraid especially not of them. How could any parent make their child fear them?Mirari slowed down a little to let her son keep up with her. She didn’t want to leave him behind in the jungle they both had to be at their home together to tell Moon who was still taking his nap from his hard day’s work.Eventually they reached the shack and found Moon laying upon his bed resting upon his side. Mirari for a moment adored the sight of her handsome mate. There was no one who could match the muscles and tones he had upon him. His obsession to work certainly had allowed his body to form into something that anyone would ever desire to have him. Another good trait of Moon was that he was faithful. He could be surrounded by the most beautiful of females in the world and yet only Mirari was his heart and he do anything for both her and the child they took in. Mirari went to her sleeping mates side kneeling down next to him. She shook him politely not wanting to wake him rudely at least. “Moon? Moon! Wake up!” She cooed in his ear her soft voice smooth as honey stirred him from his sleep. Moon yawned and stretched for a moment opening his eyes to see his beloved staring at him with some worry in her eyes. “Mirari, what’s wrong?” He asked.“We may have a problem at hand, my love.” Mirari replied taking hold of her mates hand. Mowgli peered into the hut seeing his father was awake now. “Father! There is something you must know!” He hurried over sitting next to Moon hugging him around his waist. Moon smiled slightly putting an arm over his child. He could see now they both had something troubling them.“What is wrong? Did something happen while I was napping?” He asked rubbing his son’s shoulders while grasping Mirari’s hands. Mirari nodded. “Yes. Seems we may no longer be the only ones upon this island.”“What? What do you mean?” Moon asked his voice starting to grow concerned. “A Ship, Dad! While we were exploring a ship came over us and…” Mowgli explained but stopped for a moment when was about say what happened. “…it crushed your board. It rammed into it and shattered it to pieces. I’m sorry I let that happen.” He whimpered ashamed he let a gift his father gave be destroyed so soon after he received it.Moon gasped in shock to hear that. He brought his son upon his lap and hugged him close. “Its not your fault, son. I’m just glad you and your mother are okay.” He assured the thought of a ship nearly hitting both his mate and son frightened him. If any of them ever were to get hurt when he wasn’t around to help he couldn’t forgive himself. Mirari climbed onto the bed and hugged him from his right side. “We’re okay, Moon. I took our son deep under to prevent the ship from hitting us. But what concerns me more is that it flew no banner of any kind. I don’t know if they are pirates hiding their colors or a people looking for settlement.”“No banner at all?” Moon asked letting go of, Mowgli letting him slide off his lap. Mirari shook her head. “Nothing at all and it was very large. One of the largest I have ever seen. If I were to guess it had to have been carrying over two hundred if not more.” Mirari explained holding Moon close starting to shake in worry. If whoever was on that ship was someone who were of any nefarious sort then their home and livelihood could be under threat. Moon didn’t like this at all. He regretted not going with them to the reefs otherwise they could have been more cautious. “Did you see the ones who were sailing it, Mirari? Human or otherwise?” He asked.“I’m afraid not. All I can tell you is that it had come close to the island, and it seems they are looking to make landfall. If I am to guess if its not near our home it must be on the other side of the island.” Mirari said still thinking about how the ship could have hit her or Mowgli if they were not being cautious as they were underwater. Moon nodded standing up from the bed with Mirari rising next to him. “I must find out who they are. I don’t want to believe that someone who has sailed to this island could be someone of troubling nature but if they do intend to land here I must see what they are and what is their purpose.” Moon proclaimed. “Are you going to present yourself to them?” Mowgli asked.Moon shook his head. “No, son. Not until I learn about them. I and none of us cannot approach any visitor until we know a little about them. We don’t know their intentions and that makes them potentially dangerous.”“So, you’re just going to spy on them.” Mowgli asked next.“You are correct son. It is the safest way to learn about them.” Moon said petting his son’s hair kindly as, Mowgli was a smart boy. He always learned his lessons well and used his head often. Most children are a stubborn lot but not his boy. Mowgli paid well attention and listened to him and his Mother never once questioning them or believing he knew all when he did not. “Should we come with you?” Mirari suggested. “If we are together perhaps we may learn a lot more in a short time with more eyes watching them.” Moon shook his head. “No. Cannot have you both put yourselves more at risk than you already have. Ill venture into the jungle and find the ship. Ill only get close to view what they are and see if I can understand their intentions of being here.”“Are you sure you want to go by yourself, Father?” Mowgli took Moons arm looking up at him with concern in his eyes. Moon smiled at him rubbing his shoulder caringly. “Don’t worry about me, son. Ill be just fine. Ill be back before the day is over. Stay here with your mother. Protect her for me will you?” Moon winked at his mate making her cover her muzzle amused. “I will, Father. I promise!” Mowgli vowed getting a few more strokes of his hair from his father before he turned his attention to, Mirari. She gave him a deep kiss before he left the shack.“Be careful, my love!” She called out to him waving. Moon smiled at her nodding before he ran into the jungle to get to the far side of the island as fast as he could. Once he was gone Mowgli looked at his Mother. “What are we going to do before, Father gets back?”Mirari put a finger under her chin. It was a good question since it was many hours before sunset. She then heard her son’s stomach rumble. She giggled when she heard that as blushed slightly holding a hand over his belly. “Why don’t we go find something to eat? Some coconuts may just work.” She suggested.“Ill pick them myself. I know a good tree in the jungle. Follow me, Mom!” Mowgli gestured Mirari to follow him. They both left their shack and headed into the jungle. They followed Moons trail for a few moments before turning another way. Moon already had gone so far into the jungle that he was nowhere in sight. Mirari was slightly worried for Moon, but he knew how to take care of himself. He was a good fighter when it came to situations when he had to get physical. He protected her from sharks in the sea and from some hooligans upon land long before they came to the island they lived on now. But Moon was smart as well. He knew when not to show himself to others. He was a clever wolf and a cautious one too. He will be okay and when he would return he may have all the information they need to know about the islands visitors. Mowgli looked up at the canopy above. He kept an eye out for some tree’s that had coconuts growing upon them. Then he found some handing from the top of a tree that was well risen from the ground with a wide trunk that look to be too far around or him to reach his arms and legs around.“Here’s some, Mother! Ill get them!” Mowgli ran to the tree and hopped onto it. He barely could reach his arms around it, but he planted his feet and pushed himself up. He carefully shimmed up the tree with, Mirari staying close just under son. “Be careful my little, starfish! My heart would not take it if you fell and broke your legs!” She called up to him. “Don’t worry, Mother I learned how to climb better from Father and you!” Mowgli called back down but he almost lost his balance when the let go with one hand to call down from where he was a good ten feet off the ground. “Climb better, indeed!” Mirari giggled. Mowgli certainly was taking after, Moon well. A Drive to get something completed to bring satisfaction and happiness for someone else’s behalf. She still remained close though she was confident in her son’s ability. What mother would she be if she didn’t have faith in her child. He did make it to the near top to be within arms distance of the coconuts after a few minutes of climbing. Certainly, he could go faster but by making it to the top as he did was success enough.“Look out below!” He warned before plucking a coconut off the tree letting it fall down. Mirari stepped back to avoid the falling fruit. Mowgli had plucked a sixth one from place letting it fall before he believed there was more than enough. He carefully climbed back down and this time he managed to get to the jungle floor without incident. “I did it, mother!” He beamed happily. Mirari smiled grabbing her son and pulled him into her hugging him close. “That you did, darling. I’m proud of you! Shall we eat then?” “You better believe it. Ill get some rocks to break them.” Mowgli let go of his mother and fetched some rocks that were big enough to have the coconuts to be smashed against. Mirari laid on her side as her son prepared them a small lunch of coconut as he used the rocks he gathered to smash them open. It took him a great effort more than it would take, Moon but he managed to finally break some of them open one by one. He gave the first one he got open to his mother who took it gratefully. She watched him proudly. Mowgli was growing up so fast. It only seemed like yesterday that they found him in the wreaked raft on the beach. He was not of their kind yet she and, Moon loved him so much. All they could want is for their child to grow up happy and healthy and already he is proving to be resourceful and capable. She couldn’t tell him just how proud she was. Mowgli was a good boy. It didn’t matter that he was human or even anything else nothing would ever make her stop loving him.She drank the contents of the coconut and picked at its innings while, Mowgli did the same with his coconut as he smashed opened three more. He began to dig into them as the days events worked up his appetite.“Hungry aren’t you?” Mirari giggled continuing to lay where she was watching her child eat and drink his fill.“I guess so.” Mowgli smiled as he ate one coconut’s innings to nearly nothing. Before he could grab another one he opened up, Mirari grabbed him and pulled him into her holding him close making him laugh.“Mom! I wasn’t finished!” He complained with some laughter. “Neither am I with you, my dear.” She giggle rolling him onto her turning him over so she could look at him. “My little starfish.” She cooed rubbing his cheeks affectionally. “Don’t you ever change, Mowgli. You’re my son and I am so proud of you. I love you never forget that.”“I love you too, Mother. I promise.” Mowgli hugged her close pushing himself into her. His Mother and Father were the best he had ever known. He never wanted to let them down or ever disappoint. He only ever desired to be the good son that he now heard from his mother that he was.“That’s a good boy.” Mirari grinned hugging him kissing his cheek. Mowgli stayed where he was enjoying the warmth his mother was giving and his heart melted with love. He then looked to the jungle that led away from their home.“Do you think, Father will be okay?” He asked feeling a bit worried for the one he loved just as much as his mother.Mirari stroked his back caringly. “Don’t you fear for you father, Child. He is strong and capable. He will be fine just you wait.” Mirari assured though her eyes looked to where, Moon had gone. She had great faith but even with that worry still took her heart. She could only hope that whoever that Moon finds out that has come to the island they were not of anyone that was there to cause them or the island itself any trouble....
