Sada Asanosuke (Sutemaru) is a samurai assigned to oversee the castle stables, the very position in which his father, now the chief retainer, started. He strikes up an unlikely friendship with Arima Suzunosuke, a page, which leads to disaster when they’re both framed in a plot against their daimyo’s life. When Asanosuke gives a false confession to protect his friend, he is banished from the domain and left for dead.
