EDIT: With the deadline for submissions now a few days passed, M4 is officially closed. Big thanks to everyone who participated; we got 8 really cool monsters out of it!
Alright. My blown mind's recovered enough to finally make another Journal post (just in time for Deviljho), so after conferring with some other artists and trying out a test run over Discord, I've decided to host an Art Jam event! I call it: M4!
MIX & MATCH MONSTER MANIA
The rules are pretty simple... and familiar, too, if you've been around long enough to see any of 's What Kaiju Are You contests! What I've done, essentially, is filled a hat with a bunch of character traits, and now I'm asking you to reach in, pull a few out, and see what kind of kaiju you can make with them!
Each willing participant will grab 9 character traits at random. Each one will come from a category:
*Famously Destroyed or Defended (you choose if the monster destroyed or defended)
*Wildcard (random bonus trait)
Each of these 9 categories has 30 options within it, adding up to 270 different character traits and... 5,191,778,592,000 possible combinations. (Thanks, Permutations Calculator.)
So, first thing's first: how do you get your traits, and how do you know they're random?
To "grab" your random traits, what you'll need to do is use a random number generator. I recommend the one linked here, but you can find similar things all over the internet; Google even has one built in now. Heck, you could write numbers on scraps of paper and literally pull them from a hat if you want to! The point is, you need to randomly choose a number between 1 and 30, 9 times.
Once you've done that, leave a comment or send a note showing the 9 numbers you got. I'll reply to you in a private message letting you know what each of your numbers correlates to.
A quick example, just to be sure we're all clear:
Timmy randomly grabs nine numbers and gets 6, 10, 8, 15, 24, 7, 30, 2, and 12.
He shares these numbers with me, so I look them up and let him know what each number means.
Going by his numbers, Timmy got:
Monster Type: Bird (6)
Origin: Ate a radioactive grasshopper (10)
Motivation: To be a jerk (8)
Main Power: Loud noise (15)
Strength: Eats everything (24)
Weakness: Scarecrows (7)
Famously Destroyed: Kansas (30)
Perceived As: A nuisance (2)
Wildcard: Has a face only a mother could love (12)
So, using all of his 9 traits, Timmy draws and writes a bio for a giant bird monster with a deadly sonic screech. Easy! Of course this is just an example, so none of those traits line up with those numbers and chances are you're going to get something much more challenging than what Timmy did!
Now, that's all there is to it, but there are a few little details I need to mention!
ONE: If you don't like the results you got, just let me know and send another set of random numbers! I'll send another set of results for those numbers, and then you can pick. You can do this a maximum of two times, which would give you three results to choose from.
TWO: Since this isn't a contest, there's no reason for me to put a cap on entries. That means you can create as many monsters for this as you want! There's one condition, though: each consecutive monster you make has to tie back to the original in some way. They could be allies or enemies, or maybe they were spawned by the same event, whatever- but they do need to be connected!
THREE: You don't have to be an artist to enter! Having a picture is definitely preferred, but text-only entries will also be accepted. Alternatively, if you can find an artist willing to do requests, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of collaboration. It just needs to be clear who actually created the monster.
FOUR: The goal, if it wasn't already clear, is to use your prompts to create something new and original. You cannot submit one of your previous creations, or a character that legally doesn't belong to you (like Godzilla, Kong, etc).
FIVE: The written part of your entry can be as short or long as you like, written in whatever format you want. The only hard rule is that you need to show what your 9 random character traits are so everyone else can see what you were working with.
And finally, just to reiterate: this is not a contest, just a group activity I thought might be fun! There's nothing at stake here and no winners or losers. The only way to get disqualified is to completely ignore the rules or create something blatantly offensive like porn or hate speech. Everything else will get an instant feature here on my page, and regardless you'll all be free to use your creations however you wish after the art jam!
M4 will be open from today, March 2nd, until Friday, March 30th! New entries will no longer be accepted after that date!
So, until then... have fun!
MMMM Entry: KrustakinosMonster Type: Crustacean
Krustakinos resembles a semi-anthropomorphic crab covered in purple armor, with large jagged claws, glowing golden eyes, a lobster-like tail, and an almost human-like mouth filled with jagged pointed yellow plates representing his teeth. His underside’s a pinkish-white, and his blood is blue.
Origin: Visiting from another planet
Hailing from an alien planet where crustacean-like aliens are commonplace, Krustakinos is an escaped convict who was wanted for the murder of many of his kind. Escaping onto a teleporting shuttle, Krustakinos arrived on our planet and, all too intrigued with the life on this planet, deciding to go on a killing spree for shits and giggles.
Krustakinos was always a little unhinged mentally speaking, and it was quite apparent whenever he was in battle; he had too much fun tearing his opponents’ limbs off, or bashing their heads in, or crushing, ripping, and generally
Kaiju for DinoHunter2's MMMM ContestName: Lhaos
Length: 170 meters
Weight: 100,000 tons
Location: Iraq, Kazakhstan and Iran; possible Mongolia, China and towards Mediterranean Sea.
Aggression Level: High
Cause of Origin: Pollution of an unknown kind; substance still being verified.
-Hurricane Cometh: Lhaos uses a highly intense, reverse wind-based power called Hurricane Cometh which sucks everything within 10-15+ blocks and into its mouth; however, there are times hwne it used this power to form a thin strip of wind to essentially 'rope' things and throw them around.
-Tentacles: These are one of Lhaos's most unexpected results of mutation. These tentacles are used excrete a slimy substance to break down even the hardest ground for it to essentially 'swim' through. They have been used as whips as well and they're good for short range grappling.
-Intelligence: Despite it's less-than-savory appearance, Lhaos has actually got a unique brain for a kaiju of its kind. Three smaller brains are in it'
