Yo, quick question, have you seen Singular Point yet and what were your thoughts on it if you did? I personally really dislike the show but I feel bad for disliking it and frustrated cause I can’t understand why people love it so much and feel like I’m stupid for not having enjoyed it lmao, so I’m interested to hear your thoughts.
I feel more... neutral? I guess I'm leaning toward positive, but it's still in a gray area for me. I enjoy it in the sense that it's something new and different, and the context that it's an experiment/spin-off. None of it is my idea of a definitive, true-to-the-characters Godzilla story, but I don't think it's supposed to be. The AI characters were pretty annoying most of the time and it was awfully exposition heavy, but compared to The Trilogy I felt it did a much better job of balancing the jargon and the action. The pacing was better, I got wrapped up in the mystery and wanted to keep watching, and it was a blast seeing ol' Jet Jaguar again. All in all it's really weird and confusing and definitely not how I'd have done a Godzilla anime, but I liked it for what it was.
Ah, OK. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I will admit that it had its moments (Salunga is great (baboon mans) and the animation and (most of) the designs look amazing), but I personally thought it was bad tbh. I didn’t actually mind the AI characters (I admit to being suckered up by Pero 2 as I thought he was adorable lmao) but I think the humans were incredibly underdeveloped (even moreso than the Monsterverse imo, which I know is one scorcher of a hot take), I didn’t like how the Kaiju were mostly treated just as big animals and how some of them never really contributed to the mysteries in any significant way, I was frustrated by how there were no actual answers for any of the mysteries (I’ve watched similar such shows, such as Matt Smith’s run on Doctor Who, which have promised big things and just keep on firing off mysteries to keep you engaged and I’m willing to bet money on that being the case in Season 2) and I felt like the plot was just too busy and overly convoluted, there was somehow too much and too little going on at once in every episode. I don’t mind that people liked it, of course, I just can’t quite wrap my head around the show, particularly as it has so many little references to previous Godzilla stuff and literature and mythology and I’m usually down for that sort of stuff.
