Medici by dilli-dalli Medici by dilli-dalli
Reposting old pieces from my pixel-site. Made in 2008 for World of Purple's fantastic "Obnoxious Collars" contest (the object being to create the most ostentatious neck-wear you could imagine). This was a fun challenge; I did lots of research on collars throughout the ages but, in the end, I kind of chucked it all out the window and just went with total fantasy. As a note, the collar she's wearing is not a Medici-inspired piece but you should totally look up Medici collars- there were some wild ones! Won 'first', 'best shading', 'most creative', and 'most vivid display.'

I started drafting a design for a Stymphalean Bird costume and realized it looked an awful lot like this doll's cape. xD You win this round! Heehee.

People really don't use orange enough, do they?

Hehe! Well, I stole it from an old Italian fashion display (circa: 1600s) so somebody won the round WAY before I did!

By the way, thank you for the lesson of the day. I had no idea what Stymphalean Birds were so I looked it up on Wikipedia- I love learning new things!

I do hope you'll post the costume design when you're finished; the creatures that inspired it are so unique that I'd love to see what it would lead to in fabric (or a drawn interpretation thereof)!

So gorgeous! Makes me wish I could actually pixel shade xD
But, putting that aside. Can you imagine standing behind her on a windy day?

Eyes gouged out by feathers or suffocating in a sea of fabric? Hehe! Yes- they say high fashion is often painful but I think it usually refers to the wearer and not the unfortunate bystanders who have to contend with their ridiculous trends.

Thank you for the positive feedback- I appreciate it!
