This is inspiring and gives me hope. I'm hoping to create similar effects someday on Inkscape.
Thank you for your hard work!

Hehe, my pleasure and thanks for your kind words. And sure, definitely keep going and don't give up. Experiment on your own and ask/look for help when you're stuck (Inkscape forum, Facebook group, etc).

Hi, I'm a big fan of your work. I see you only use inkscape. I do not know if it can be given but you should elaborate a tutorial of how to do the coloring with the inkscape, why you give a good contrast of light and shadow, as well as the colors. That perish that is done with gimp but so you do not use it. Seriously I should think about doing a videotutorial. Sure that many enthusiasts who use inkscape would appreciate it.

Oh wow, totally missed this comment. Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the praise. I've been asked to make tutorials several times and I'm not against this. It's just that people usually expect step by step tuts, but the way I work isn't really suitable for that sort of thing. For the most part I'm switching between the pen and gradient tools, with a lot of node moving and path bending. Very repetitive, not much to see/show there. That's why I haven't done a full tutorial yet, just small examples for certain more specific problems. I'll keep thinking about it though and if I can think of something good, I'll definitely put a tutorial together.

Great work!  I've played with Inkscape on and off for a couple of years.  This is unique among a lot of the art I have seen done with Inkscape.  I am inspired!

Yeah, I've been using Inkscape for about six years now. And more on than off; it's really become my main "field of operation". Glad the pic inspired you. Thanks for the comment!

Wonderful art! Did you have an initial sketch to go by or did you create entirely in Inkscape?

Thank you. Yes, I drew a sketch on paper first, like I do for most of my works. I don't use a tablet and drawing a sketch with a mouse isn't cool so I have to do it the old-fashioned way. I have done a few pieces without an initial sketch though, and my backgrounds are usually done without a sketch, too.

Thank you. I've heard that line before :D Funnily, when I ask people what exactly they are interested in, I rarely get an answer. Anything specific you wanna know?

How do you do your layers and coloring? I am a super noob with it, and really wanna get better!

Most of the time I make separate layers for color flats, shadows (with multiply-blending), highlights and line-work on top of everything else. Backgrounds basically get split up in a similar way, though often times go with a reduced layer set (e.g. no lines, like in the pic above).
My coloring is pretty straight forward in most pics: flat base colors that get overlayed with shadow shapes (which can be filled with flat-colors or gradients). And usually I use one shadow color (and/or one base gradient) throughout the entire picture.
Not sure what else to say here as there's really no "special magic" taking place. I hope this answers your question nonetheless.
