Three hours later, midnight Saturday, they touched down at Incheon International Airport. Chul disappeared into her lab and Hyun-Ki headed home. It was a warm Saturday night in August. I had the window to my room open and the fan on, but I was still sweating in a tank top and shorts trying to sleep. My very first day of high school would be starting on Monday and being anxious about school wasn't helping. I have been having dreams about not being prepared at school where I forget my backpack, I forget to wear clothes. I forget there is an exam, and I did not study. Will my grades be ok? They were driven through a small valley north east of Nagano and dropped off at the entrance to Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. It was a thirty minute trek up into the foothills to Jigokudani Monkey Park. As they hiked further in, little golden balls of fur dotted the rocks and railing along the path. They also sat around the little bridge unbothered as the three humans walked up to them to get to the onsen. Even though there was no snow on the ground, many sat around and took a dip in the steaming geothermal pool. One of Tachyon’s drivers dropped them off at the main gate into the Imperial Palace grounds. The two young ladies were giddy as they walked across moat bridges exploring the gardens, castle towers, and the teahouse. Tachyon walked behind them with face mask on, looking like a baby brother tagging along with his sisters. They could only see the palace building on the outside that day and half of the palace grounds was private residence of the Imperial family so closed off to the public. No food was sold in the gift shops so they decided to leave after getting hungry from all that walking. They bought fruit sandwiches from a nearby convenience store for lunch. Rested, they walked over to the temple they saw from their room. It was just across the street, north of the Imperial Palace grounds. Trying to sit up, Hyun-Ki was still squeezed into the massage chair vibrating so much the pictures in her hand were blurry. The chair began hitting her back, like two baseball bats beating the wind out of her. How do I get out of this? She found and hit the emergency stop button and was released from the grip of the alien abduction torture device. “Aigu! Apha!” she said while trying to stand. I feel bruised. Looking up to the skylight, Hyun-Ki saw clouds moving in, blocking the blue sky. The whole floor became dark and grey. People got up talking about going home early. She watched the stampede in the lobby as she finished her meal. Water droplets blurred the view outside as she put away her dirty tray and headed towards the elevators. Digital displays on her left and right showed PosiTron’s newly finished music video for Ion, the latest song off of their new album. They wore loose fitting clothes that barely covered their muscular arms, chests, and abdomens as they twirled, jumped around, and looked at the cameras seductively in sheer black fabrics against a bold red background.
