Deepwater Stairway by Dhuaine Deepwater Stairway by Dhuaine
Look, it's been only 5 months since last manip...!
*facepalm*
I messed this up royally. Dunno whether I managed to repair it. Dearest *aurei helped a lot :heart: I was seconds from throwing this into trash.

A small gap in moss-covered cliff deep in thick, humid forest marks the place where a river cascades underground, forming a reservoir many storeys beneath the surface. A vast complex of lantern-lit silent buildings sweeps far in the dark, mingling with the natural caverns and cutting deep into the earth.
[Dark Palace]

Finally, another Dark Palace piece. I had three seizures, two heart attacks and five fits of rage while searching for stock. I still ended up using restricted photos. It looks like there's no unrestricted stock of the type I would like. ;_;

Hope the tower in bottom left corner looks alright, since I repainted the thing to cover all the annoying lichens. >D

17 hours straight, it almost did me in yesterday.
90 layers, not counting hidden layers and backups.
Architecture elements: ~lugubrum-stock *GothicBohemianStock
Waterfalls: *Dracoart-Stock
Brushes: ~spiritsighs-stock
The piece uses distinct 11 photos.

^^' 300 dpi.

work more on the lighting fx and on the overall contrast.

I worked a lot on the lighting, can you elaborate? There are some known issues in this that I want to retouch later.
The contrast seems high enough for me. O.o In fact, I thought it may be too high.

lighting fx - lighting effects, overall lighting effects - experiment more on lighting intensity, reflection and so on. The contrast is too high in some places (too much negative space because of this) and that's what ruins the "reality" effect of the light ( the light seems awkward and fake with so sense of reality )

Mm, I know. The original has less contrast and less patches of pure black. I just can't export it in good enough quality... I'll try PNG next time when I access my stationary PC, where I made this manip.
Thanks for the feedback :)

Wow, it's very hard to pull of that perspective but you did it beautifully! In my opinion, it's worth your troubles. The only flaw I see is just something that probably escaped your notice: The trees on the top left corner didn't mix with each other.

Thank you! :love: I'm so glad the perspective is OK. It's the first time (I think...) I tried something not landscape-only from more elevated point of view. I've always loved such pictures, but it's difficult to find stock photos taken from high places (unfortunately, the reason is obvious ._.).
The waterfall may be still too flat though.

*facepalm* I can see it now. GEEZ. I KNEW I forgot to blend something, I just couldn't remember which place was left to fix. I will remedy that when I launch the PC on which I made the manip... I will also have to lighten it a bit, or at least play with the settings. There are pools of black in the manip, where normally something should still be seen - like bottom left corner. I carefully repainted that wall and now it's a huge blob of black. >.>
I think it may have something to do with export to JPG. Subtle shades get lost. :/ I had the same problem with Fear No Darkness. That manip too isn't so black when I open PSD file. :/
Hah, sorry for the rant ^^;

I think it may be a problem with Photoshop. Try to apply layer masks, separately merge groups of layers versus flatting the whole image at once. It's from my experience. BTW: don't forget to back-up original psd with separate layers ;)

The funny thing: flattening really makes the image look funky, that's why I use copy merged. :/ When pasted on top of the stack, it looks exactly the same... so I don't know.
I ALWAYS have tons of backup XDD
