Cats were introduced to the Stonemen via Absu traders who bring them aboard their ships for ratting. A chief offered to take one from one of these ships for a small amount of coin to show off as a curiosity. Stonemen are not used to seeing felines, though lions do very occasionally make their way north from Sang, such a small and strange looking creature it was to them. Deciding to keep it within his hall, the chief was amazed at its ability not only to catch rodents but serving as a fine companion. This cat became famous throughout his holds and then to other chieftains; as it was that it had a habit of sitting upon his lap while he held court which led to questions on the animal's origin, and then petting. A chief would never admit it openly, but they do also find them "cute". And so the animals are kept throughout Stones, not just owned by chiefs but some do allow themselves to be owned by more common folk. Aside from sleeping most of the day, they do help with clearing the fields of pesky carrion birds.
The cat pictured is one of a good friend of mine, her name is "kitten"
