Traditional Art

First up for being featured is AntoinetteRosae She is a wonderful digital artist who personally I think is just fantastic. The brush strokes she uses are just so soft and the way she draws her is absolutely breath taking. She also has very good anatomy when it comes to drawing faces. Go check out her gallery and give her some love!

Second is misellapuella She is a writer and traditional artist who is amazing when it comes to realism. She has written a lot of stories, but the main three I know of are The Black Parade, Miserable, and Wrong. I am currently reading The Black Parade, and I must I am quit hooked. so please go check out her gallery people, you won't regret it!

And finally the last person to be featured is Macrocosmique They are a traditional and Digital artist and I must say that the artwork from this artist is quit amazing. I rather like the style and the technique they use when drawing, it is rather enjoyable for me to see ^^ So go check out their gallery and see for yourself.

Photography

Hello again, and welcome to another Devious Times photography feature! Let's check out our three new photographers this week.

First up EngelderMusik. Definitely a talented photographer! Really great nature shots and still life photos, and lots of them! For sure take a look through her work, there won't be something you don't like.

Second, we have Antea-YuliyaGenne. Now this is the photography I love! Amazing street photography, as well as some really artistic portraits. Browsing her gallery is a must!

Third up, let's show TusharBoss. Everyone likes a great flower shot, TusharBoss seems to have nailed it on every one. As well, some really cool street photos. Wonderful macro shots, keep it up!

That's all for features this week, keep reading next week for another three photographers!

As far as topics go, I think I'd like to talk a little about The adventure behind some photos. You always see those shot that make you think "how did they get that?" I always like to imagine what it took to get such photos. Sometimes us photographers go to great heights to get the shots we want/need, literally. I remember climbing onto the roof of my pickup truck, hiking through the forest, climbing a tree, and laying on the landing end of a dirt jump just to get that photo you know will look great. I'm sure any photographer will agree. There's a story behind every photo. I might just start up a discussion so you and other photographers alike can share tales of quests for the perfect photo.

Literature

I didn’t plan for a theme this week, but all of the deviants I picked to feature today happen to write poetry. So, it looks like that’s what I’ll be talking about for this issue of Devious Times!

I’ve always found getting poetry to rhyme a challenge, but Extranzia pulls this off quite well! In her poem about the decline of standards of knowledge and literacy, “Written Wish”, her rhyming words describe the tragic truth of the intelligence of some. She also writes more light-hearted poetry, such as in “I Got A Spatula For Christmas”. Her poetry will certainly make you think, perhaps even chuckle every now and then.
Written WishIf I could wish a wish,
if one time it may be selfish,
just for me,
it would be that my writing is free.

That my abilities shine,
whether it be in prose or rhyme.
So when I give advice,
with my writing it will more than suffice.

What a thought that would be!
To speak more literately.
Though I see why it shan't be,
for not many understand the relevancy.

An elaborate whim in amity,
for few can understand
the magnanimous beauty
of words so grand.

I may be no intellectual,
though words may be my passion,
at times it is ineffectual.
A meager ration.

There are many things
I have yet to know,
words yet to bring
into my mind an

Breezy3 gets her inspiration for her poetry from her life or thoughts she comes across. Her poem “My Little Thirteen Year Old Me” really makes the reader think about the things they’d tell their younger selves if they had the chance. It certainly got me thinking. “Wishmaster”, a poem that warns the reader about making wishes, caused me to rethink my idea of wish, and if the time 11:11 is really as magical as it’s made out to be.

Wishmaster11:11
Time to make a wish
What will you wish for,
If it came true?
Would you wish for
An angel
Do you long for its love
And  gentle touch?
Or would you
Burn the angel's wings to dust
Because your lust
Was stronger than your love
Would your wildest dreams
Come true
Or would you bring your darkest nightmares
Into reality?
What really is a wish?
Is it really a blessing?
Or is it a curse?
Do you  want to know?
Have you ever thought of
The price you would pay?
Or if you would just fade away?
Do you even want to know?
No I suppose you wouldn't
I suppose you want to live in empty bliss
Live in a lie
T
My Little Thirteen Year Old MeCome over here, darling
Come a little closer
I need to tell you something
I see you walk alone
Because you feel like no one understands
That no one even cares to understand
You are angry and lonely
You feel like the world is going to eat you alive
You feel like you are always going to be last
And you feel the walls close in on you because you do not feel good enough
Please don't smile and tell me you're fine, sweet girl
Because I know that trick too well
I want you know its okay to cry
But remember to get back up,
Don't lose your fire and passion,
Don't try growing up too fast,
And remember to make sure you're happy
You don'

If you’re looking for a poem to give you shivers, I suggest reading xiongirl’s “Asylum”. The creepy mood certainly causes one to feel like they are in the shoes of an insane person, surrounded by all sorts of horror. “60 Years or 60 Minutes” forces the reader to realize that a life could end at any moment, and nobody knows when. xiongirl certainly doesn’t hold back when it comes to her poetry.

60 Years or 60 MinutesYou could live 60 years or 60 minutes
You could die now or later
This moment could be your last
These words you speak could be your last
Your laugh may be the laugh others will hear from you
Your jokes could be the last jokes you ever tell
Life can be short and it can be long
60 minutes or 60 years
Now or Later
Last or not
Dead or alive
Muertos
AsylumI am locked in this Asylum for eternity
It is dark and loud
I go to bed knowing that I will hear sounds
The sounds of other patients locked in their past and trying to get out
Sounds of those people pacing trying to figure out how to escape
Escape here and there and everywhere
It is like Misery has chosen this Asylum for a permanent home
I fear the morning for which the people who claim they are doctors come
They come and tell us it will be ok
That they will help us
And then quick as lightning they stick you with a Syringe
Only they know what is in it
I go through the days feeling like I am walking through fog
I pace the long an

Being a writer myself, unlaced2’s poem “Writer’s Block” definitely hit home. I could relate with the frustration of not being able to get ideas out, the taunting cursor on a word document… Her poem outlines all of these terrible frustrations that all writers experience at least once. unlaced2 also points out in another poem, “Poetry from the Violinist”, that musicians write their own kind of poetry. It’s not something that can be written or seen, but felt by every audience member during the violinist’s performance. She certainly opened my eyes to this beautiful form of art.

Poetry from the ViolinistThe violinist is an artist
And a poet
He plays the music with passion
Displays emotion

When he picks up the violin
He takes his bow
And draws the string
With true artistry

Audiences can hear the beautiful piece
And the colour
They close their eyes
To let their imagination run wild

Yes the violinist is the artist
With his bow and his instrument
His song shall play
Forevermore
Writer's BlockI've hit the wall
I've reached my limits
I can't go much farther
It won't let me

I am stumped in what I want to write
Or maybe I don't know how to write it
It gives me frustration
It's a bad time for you to stop now!

Sitting at the desk
With a pen in my hand
I stare at the blank paper
It's been blank for over an hour!

Or maybe we have the computer turned on
With a white document
And a cursor that goes
Blink, blink, blink

The ideas do come and go
But they come at the worst times
When I can't write them down
And go when I do have the chance to copy it down

We have all been there before
It's a very common place
It'll creep

Poetry isn’t the only thing these deviants write though! I encourage you to take a look at some of their other works too, it’s definitely worth your time.

My Rant for the Week:

You know something that gets on my nerves? Lack of punctuation. I just can’t read a story with terrible use (or lack of) periods, commas and apostrophes! I’ll usually let poetry get away with what I consider to be a “misuse of punctuation” because poetry is a different way for writers to express themselves. It’s just not quite the same…
But it drives me CRAZY when I find a story with a wonderful plot and ideas and can’t keep reading it because of the grammar or spelling. It’s the saddest thing in the world! I want to move on and read it… but my obsessive mind just won’t allow it. Does this ever happen to any of you? Or am I just a crazy perfectionist? Maybe everyone else should be more concerned about this issue… After all, isn’t the idea and message behind the story more important than the presentation? Or is presentation everything?
Ah, the things I make you wonder about, eh? ;b See you guys next week!

Digital Art

The first person I will be featuring today is Muiscdreamer. She is an anime and manga artist however her style is somewhat realistic. She has amazing anatomy for both male and female. She also has many OCs that are interesting and comics that are very funny.

The next person I would like to feature is weiweihua. He is a 3-dimensional scene designer from France. His works are breathtaking. Some of the scenes remind me of videogames but of such better quality. The details and lighting put into the works are amazing.

Tips:
I’m gonna keep my tips this week very short. In digital artwork, it is quite common to find things such as tracing. I am not talking about those bases you see a lot, I mean taking a picture, most likely something in anime/manga, and tracing over it. Some keep it completely the same, others put their own character on it in some way or another. Sadly we can’t stop them all.
I simply want to say, don’t do that. You won’t feel the satisfaction of an artist by tracing other peoples’ works. As an artist myself I know what my work isn’t the best. However, when I finish a piece, I don’t care that it’s not the Mona Lisa, I get the satisfaction of finishing it. What I mean to say is, just draw your own work. You’ll feel much better about yourself, and improve, if you draw it completely on your own.
