deviantHEART Membership Guidelines

 Joining
To join, please click the "Join this Group" button at the top of the group front page. All join requests are automatically accepted.

 Members
So you became a member! Congratulations! You can get started by submitting art, but we recommend reading our guidelines for members first...

:pointr: Behavior
Your behavior effects not just this group, but each person who comes into contact with our group. Please be respectful of other people's opinions and ideas. deviantHEART is a group whose purpose is to promote positivity and warm-fuzzies. If conduct is consistently unbecoming, we can permanently remove members from the group (but we sure would hate to do that).

:pointr: Chatroom
Our chatroom is :#devheart: and has the same purpose as the group. The rules are very simple: treat people they way you want to be treated. If you cannot do that or cannot maintain a positive attitude, you will be asked to leave. If the behavior becomes a problem, we have the ability to permanently remove members from the channel (though we would hate to have to do that).

:pointr: Submissions
Current submission limit: 2 per day

All submissions should adhere to at least one of the following:
  • Support
    • Equal Rights
    • Cure Research
    • Awareness
    • Disease
    • Syndromes
    • Discrimination/Bullying
  • Inspire
    • Lift peoples spirits
    • Leave viewers in awe
  • Encourage positive action
    • Peace rally
    • Conservation & recycling
  • Humor
    • Make people smile or laugh
    • Silly moment
    • Comical - created with the intention to provoke laughter
  • Portray a joyful or happy moment
    • Child birth
    • Wedding
    • Friendship

Submissions may be declined for the following:
  • Incomplete Artwork
    • Sketches
    • Line art
    • Works in Progress
    • Stock Images or Resources
  • Inappropriate Artwork/Photographs
    • Pornographic (ie. groping, penetration)
    • Offensive (ie. political trash talking, character defamation)
  • Impaired Photographs
    • Out of focus
    • Blurry
    • Under-exposed (too dark)
    • Over-exposed (too bright)
  • Being too similar to a previous submission of yours

These are not set in stone. Art is subjective and is decided on a case-by-case basis in deviantHEART. Please send a note to the group if you have questions on why a submission was declined or why one was accepted. We do not always leave a message when declining.

:pointr: VIP Members
VIP members are members who have given their time freely to help improve both dA and deviantHEART. They follow the same guidelines as regular members with the exception that they can submit more per week, not require votes on their submissions, and have access to the backroom. If you are interested in becoming a VIP member, you will want to read the Volunteer Guidelines for deviantHEART.

:pointr: Appealing a Ban
We hate to see members go, but even more, we hate to see a member get banned. If you find yourself "deviously denied," you can send the group a note and ask why. If you know why, you can send Icesis a note and plead your case: What lesson have you learned? How do you intend to ensure the same situation does not happen again? A ban can only be appealed ONE time.

I want to say I love the whole idea of this group, I have read the guidelines and seen which type of work is accepted into each folder, but my last few things which I specifically intended to have a positive message, were declined for not meeting the standard of positivity. I am okay with my work being declined, I am just curious, since the mod said they don't meet the standard of positivity, is there some new standard you guys have? Because the work I submitted, when I look at all the work in the specific folders I submitted to, seems to fit, and my past positive works were accepted.
Hope I can get an answer and have a nice day regardless :)

Thanks so much for such a great question!

We are fairly particular and like to read descriptions of art if the work isn't positive to us immediately. The description can make or break our vote much of the time as what is positive is very subjective. Some works are fandom based and we simply don't know the fandom so have to go off of the description. Others have hidden meanings in the work we might miss - and again we turn to the description to gather more info. It is possible that what you submitted has a hidden meaning we missed. If you like, note the group with some of the works we declined, and I or someone else can tell you why exactly. And who knows - we may have overlooked something and one or all of the works belongs in the group.

I know that answer probably isn't exactly what you were looking for, but I hope it helps a little if not give a little insight into our methods.

I appreciate the reply :) I guess sometimes the positive meanings can be clear to me, but not as clear to others. I will be a bit more choosy with what I submit from now on, and try to see if my positive message is getting across to others 100%. Thanks again for more information :)

I've read the rules and I'll obey them.
I'll submit my "Rini Joins An All Boys Baseball Team." when it's finished and before.

Joining this group might not be too bad for me.
Though my drawings aren't exactly professional, or inspirationally sweet, I hope that in the future they might be.

xD; I'll just tag along with your galleries until I find some inspiration to draw my craps.

It's a very nice group, I'll give you that! Very nice ideas along with it.

my hope in humanity is not in vain!~

So I guess non positive Art such as Heartbreak or something alike or gothic themed art will be declined?

Do the Artworks (if suiting into the one or the other listed category) have to contain hearts/heart shapes or can it be elsewhat as long as carrying a message suitable for the group?

Gothic art doesn't have to be negative. And art doesn't have to contain hearts and things like that. But yes, any negative art is declined.

Now I wonder what among the usual negative things would be declined as there are a lot of things in my gallery that I would consider negative but idk maybe you would consider them to be positive

A lot of times it is just personal perspective. However, we are planning on a full gallery revamp to help address this issue. We do know that our guidelines can be quite confusing.

All submissions should adhere to the following:
I suggest rephrasing as "at least one of the following", since it doesn't have to be inspirational AND humourous AND happy AND support equal rights etc.!

It isn't supposed to be an and/or thing. It really is supposed to be as many as you can fit. We want the most positive pieces a person can create. If that means only 1 fits, then only 1 fits. If that means all of them fit, then all of them fit. Does that kind of make sense?

But at the moment, the way it's phrased makes it sound like you must fulfil all of them.

Hm, I have never got that from it, mostly because it doesn't state that they have to have all of the following, but if you are reading it this way then other people might be as well. I will make a change to the wording.

I'm very curious: would Fan Art be declined, even if it can fall into one of the categories and is completed?
Reply
:iconilantiis:
iLantiis Featured By Owner Jun 29, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Absolutely not! Fanart is completely acceptable so long as it is positive. We typically allow items if they make us smile, give warm fuzzies, or cause laughter. ^^ Fanart can easily do all of that

Sweetness! 8D So, if I suggested a Fan Art picture of Superjail!'s own Warden dressed up in an outfit I designed to make him act like a goofy-lookin' gangsta (or in this case, a dweeb trying to be cool), that could make people laugh, right? It's my intention, since it's based on a song called "Gangsta Sexy". XD

I was just wondering - what does the group define "line art" as? I may be interpreting it wrong, but it sounds like only works that have been colored will have a higher chance for acceptance than something done in black and white only.

Am I wrong? ^^;

You are not wrong. We do consider line art an unfinished piece. However, we understand that some works are intended to only be line art and that some artists only do line art. We take it on a case by case basis. Once you submit art, you have an alert that pops up in your message area. You can click on comments and leave us a comment or just send a note or leave a comment on the profile so we know to look. We are pretty good about looking before leaping tho

You should never be declined for membership. Membership is auto for this group. However, if you tried to join as a volunteer or moderator, you probably were declined as we tend to promote from within or make exceptions for very exceptional people and applications.
