Mayflowers and Chipmunk DT6 7600-1-2

Timing is Everything

Every spring, in May, a segment of the yard at The Cabin becomes bathed in small, white Mayflowers.  They grow so thick that they look more like snow on the ground than tiny spring flowers.  During my visit a few weeks ago I noticed that some chipmunks used the Mayflower field as a cut-through to their home in the stone wall.  After watching for a bit I decided that I would try to catch them in action.  I lay on my stomach at the edge of the flowers with my Nikon 500mm lens propped up on my Kirk Fat Bag (love it) and tried to time the moments when they would pop up to check their surroundings.  I am sure that I looked ridiculous but, I got the shots I wanted.  This was one of them.

So many things in life revolve around timing.  Being in the right place at the right time is critical but, knowing what to do for yourself, or being inspired to take action no matter how large or small, is what matters the most.  We, myself included, invest too much time on the "big" things and too little time on the "small" things.  The chipmunk scene was one that could have been easily overlooked or disregarded since it was small and not dramatic.  I am super happy I made myself stop and appreciate the moment. Everything Matters.

Great shot - I have chip pies outside my apartment door, but never manage to get good pictures, as I am not a good photographer, and they move so quickly! Where are the mayflowers that thick? It's our state flower in Massachusetts, but I have only ever seen a few at a time!

Bluets I have seen by the thousands, they used to blanket our banking in spring in Central MA, but I had to go hunting to find mayflowers for a school project when I was a kid!
