This was originally supposed to be a painting of Hecate, but it seems my mind wanted to paint Hecate’s mother instead. So, here we have Eleanora Hardbroom. I created a small backstory to her character as well, which can be read below.
Eleanora Hardbroom (née Blackmore) was born to Isabelle and Earnest Blackmore on June 21, 1940. The Blackmore’s lived in a middle-class neigbourhood, in Aysgarth, Yorkshire.
A shy, but intelligent child, Eleanora was kind and obedient who loved to read as her favorite pass-time. At the age of nine, Eleanora was privately tutored by her aunt; to help nurture and control her magical abilities. Though the lessons were useful and informative, they left her feeling isolated and alone. At the age of fifteen, her life grew steadily worse when her parent’s divorced, causing her mother’s health to decline steadily. Over the next four years, Elanor’s life would revolve around her studies and looking after her terminally ill mother.
When Eleanora was twenty, her mother passed away. After the funeral, she returned home to pack away her mother’s belonging’s when she found her late mother’s gold pocket watch necklace along with a letter telling her to follow her dreams. Respecting her mother’s last wishes, she left her childhood home and moved to Fleet, Hampshire, where she applied to attend Witch Training College. Her application was approved, and she graduated top of her class four years later in Spell Science and Potions.
At the age of twenty-four, Eleanora was offered a teaching postion at Fleymore Academy for Witches where she ataught Spell Science and Potion’s. In the summer of 1965, when attending the Ember Potion’s Conference, she met fellow wizard; Raymond Hardbroom. Eleanora found him to be smart, the conservative type with a good personality and the two instantly became close.
Over the next two years, Eleanora and Raymond were inseparable and on February 18, 1967, they finally married. Three months passed when Eleanora discovered she was pregnant with their daughter; Hecate. Stepping down from her teaching position at Fleymore Academy, Eleanora spent most of her days sitting reading a book in her favourite spot at the window, while Reginald was at work.
When Hecate was finally born on the 22nd January 1968, Eleanora became a devoted and caring mother ensuring that her daughter knew she was loved; providing her with the childhood she never had. Life couldn’t have been more perfect for Raymond and Eleanora, but their lifetime of happiness wasn’t to last.
On the eve of their six-year wedding anniversary, Eleanora became ill, believing it to be nothing more than a common cold. However, as the days progressed, Raymond couldn’t help but start to worry, when he saw the blood on her white handkerchief and her health begin to deteriorate. His worst fears were confirmed. His wife was dying. Raymond was powerless to save her. He could only watch over Eleanora in her final hours. It was from this moment that Raymond would slowly started to despise all forms of magic.
That night, Eleanora held her daughter close, smiling in sadness when she saw her late mother’s pocket watch necklace around Hecate’s neck. It would be the last gift she would ever give to her daughter. She prayed it would provide Hecate with some comfort the same way it did for her after her mother’s death.
The hours passed, and Eleanora peacefully passed away at the age of 35 on the morning of 16th March 1975.
Throughout the years, Hecate continued to wear the pocket watch necklace; refusing to depart with it. She vowed she would keep the necklace close to her heart in memory of her mother, and she refused to break that promise.
