It was a ton of work but I finally have a great shopping cart on my website! Now that it is, that's where all my new stuff will get listed, so it'll be the go to place if you're looking for one of my pieces for sale =)

shop.desertrubble.com

It's been a busy year for me, in more ways than one. I had hoped to have my cart up months ago but there was some upheaval with Jeff's struggling business with his son, they did finally split on some not so great terms =( And pretty much derailed us both for a couple of months dealing with the fall out of closing a business and starting a new one for him. Still not finished...I need to get decals made for his truck and some tshirts made for him, but we are pinching pennies right now.

Once he was pretty much up and running I focused on my cart....it's a 3dcart and you can use it out of the box, but there was a lot I didn't like about it and I wanted to incorporate it into my wordpress site as seamlessly as possible, so there was a lot of css to fix, among other things, you have no idea how many emails there are to edit! Then there was testing features and figuring which one worked how and with what. I am really pleased with my cart but it was a ton of work to get it just how I wanted. I might tweak the colors some soon if I get time, though.

I've really taken an interest into my blood circulation lately and why it makes me sick so often. I used to go to the doctor a lot when we had insurance and couldn't really get a single one to take an interest in what was wrong, I don't think a one of them thought anything was. But what I realize now is that I have thick blood, and have had my whole life. The symptoms only just got worse as I got older and developed some bad habits with not drinking enough water, drinking coffee, a bad diet....I did some research into vasodilators to relax my arteries and in blocking the clotting vitamin K. So I'm pretty into what I eat and drink at the moment and am feeling pretty good. My head feels clearer than it's felt in at least 10 years, isn't that sad? No headaches, no vomiting, no dizziness, no little guy beating down the back of my left eye lol My feet and hands don't feel like clubs in the morning. It's a bit weird though, I can feel sensation coming back that has been missing, it's like when your hair has been short and it starts to grow and is hitting your arm, you're not used to it and it kind of freaks you out sometimes. It's like that. I was in the shower feeling water hit my feet and calves...thought frickin' bugs were climbing up!

Now I need to get focused and make some new stuff! I get so many ideas running through my head sometimes it is hard to focus, I kind of hate that. I need to get back to meditating, that helps so, so much. If you haven't truly meditated, you should. It's not some silly hocus pocus thing, it's a tool to help you focus and visualize, it's a good thing =)

But, so hopefully it is smooth sailing and serious productivity from here til Christmas!

Have a great Summer!

Happy Holidays all!

I am very busy raising lovebird babies right now and it was all I could do to get out requests for Christmas gift purchases in time. All other stuff is pretty much at a stand still right now I'm afraid. Anyone waiting on steampunk USBs....I will get back to making those after the first of the year. I am not taking any genuinely custom requests right now and not for some time either, but if there's something I've made and it's not in my artfire shop, desertrubble.artfire.com, please ask because I should be able to make that after the first of the year.

Anyone who wants to be on my USB list, please let me know. They're $49.50 plus shipping, it's an 8g flash drive.

Have been working on my website, desertrubble.com, and hope to have a shop up and running there sometime this spring. Wishful thinking, my time management skills really suck, but I'm hopeful =) Am beginning to get galleries up there, I made a fancy new entry page, and I hope to start selling polymer clay project tutorials there next year.

I have so many things I want to do, but in all honesty, having the drive to really get them accomplished has been an issue for me. I've spent the last year working on getting healthier and trying to improve my circulation and that has certainly helped, now I really need to work on my discipline because it seems like I take one step forward and 2 back....gotta put a stop to that and keep moving forward! It doesn't help having a houseful of baby lovebirds either ;P No more babies for awhile for me. As much as I love them, it really blows creativity and focus.

Everyone be merry and be safe and have a great holiday season!

Oh, boy, I'm not good at writing much of anything unless it has to do with lovebirds....seem chock full of info about those! but so, OK, I'm gonna write something. It's hot as hell here right now, I shouldn't complain, we had a great spring and a good beginning of June, but now June sucks. I have lovebirds outside that laid eggs late because of the weather and now they're paying for it, I really hate that =(  I just finished up making some steampunk owls so if you haven't seen those, please check them out, they're cool, they're all on my facebook, I think 2 are here. Floundering a bit right now....have some angel wings waiting to be finished but I'm feeling a need for some inspiration so it's time to sit down and go through my inspiration file to stir things up and do some doodling. Wish me luck!
I've been sick and in a fog and then even after I felt better it took a bit before I felt any kind of focus, but I'm getting there. I've got some new things and I'll post pics here as soon as I have them all finished and listed but I wanted to share my news! I'm in the new PolymerCafe! On the front cover no less, so go check it out!

This issue also has my first how-to/tutorial so that totally rocks =)
I was featured on Polymer Clay Daily this week! polymerclaydaily.com/2010/12/0…

If you aren't into clay, you probably never heard of it, but if you are? Then you know what an honor it is to be featured. PCD is the go to place to see exciting new techniques and artists. If you google anything polymer clay, I guarantee you PCD is high in the results. So it was amazing that Cynthia did a post on me, I feel like I'm on the polymer clay map, and considering how long I've been doing this it's a bit overwhelming...I'm pretty sure everyone is going to wake up and realize I'm not all that, just someone who got lucky on a few things then ran out of material. let's hope the ideas keep coming lol

I'm working a a couple of neat new cyber-punk eyes, I can't wait to finish them and get them posted, I think they are cool! Sort of taking some time to gather myself right now before starting a new sculpture, I have a growing list of sculptures to do, but they take a lot of focus, so I'm going to make a few more fun things before starting on the next.

Ten things about me

The Rules:
x You must post these rules.
x Each tagged person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
x You have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons on the same journal.
x Go to their pages and tell them you tagged them.
x No tagbacks

1. I love purple, have loved it since I was a kid, had a purple phone in my early 20's that DH and I only threw away finally a couple of years ago. My purple today has a calmer tone to it, but I love it, I don't know why, just love purple.

2. I think I always wanted to be an artist. I used to sketch as a kid and in my 20's but mostly it was sketching existing art, the ones that were not were not inspired. I was not inspired.

3. I think people who don't take enough care to be on time are the epitome of selfishness and inconsiderateness (I don't think that's a word, but who cares). It shows their time is more important than the time of the person who is kept waiting and that really pisses me off. If you've agreed on a time, get yourself there on time.

4. I think parenting today has gone completely awry. Children have too many choices left up to them and that's wrong. As a parent it's your job to make choices for them. giving them choices gives them the idea that these things are important, what to wear, what to eat, what to do. It takes away the simple joy of being a child, that there are no responsibilities. Choices and decisions, no matter how small, lead to larger ones until everything becomes about them instead of about just being a kid.

5. I love animals! =)

6. I can listen to the Violent Femmes, Vivaldi, and James Taylor all within the same hour and totally dig it.

7. I absolutely love apocalyptic movies! What is it about them? I can't NOT watch them, I love them.

8. When I go to the store, I always look for someone in the parking lot who is finished with their cart and take it for them.

9. I really don't get the pants hanging around the knees thing. Kids today probably see pics of us in the 80's with our tight Jordache (OMG remember those! I think I miss those), CK's, and Sassoons and wonder what were they thinking lol

10. I don't understand how we got to this place where our Gov't officials live like royalty and they don't understand they need to cut those costs while our economy is in this horrible state. I don't care if it was already budgeted for, are they really that removed from reality?

I have 4 new industrial pendants that I think rock and they're totally affordable, which also rocks =) I have 2 stickpins for the shop...but they haven't been 'embellished' yet, so maybe tomorrow I will get them done.

Up next.....I'm going to try an octopus...wish me tons of luck, also thinking hard on a fox and rabbit lol

I just think the tyrants over at Etsy are nutso, so in fear of having my shop closed up and not having access to my stuff, I've gone ahead and moved everything to Artfire! It's the smarter move anyways, I was only planning to leave a few specifics at Etsy over the longterm anyways, but now I can focus on my Artfire shop and have all my peas in the same basket, I think it's better for my customers anyways since everything is unique.

Still ave lots of signatures to change and to copy my feedback from over there =(

Oh, well. Did you all see the steampunk Santa? I'm going to make another in colored clay this time, he's going to be something else. It's exciting to continue to challenge myself, actually it's awesome, to take on a new challenge and face it head on and actually accomplish it....kind of a new thing for me, it feels good.

Did you notice the pin Santa is hanging from? I'm going to be selling those in my shop as well, a place to wear the pendants instead of having to hang them as a pendant =) It's a stick pin that you pin to your shirt or jacket, whatever, but in the middle of 2 pinches thru the fabric, you hang your pendant, or whatever you want to hang there. Santa looks absolutely awesome hanging there!

Also, brand new in my Artfire shop.....industrial steampunk wine charms! Awesomely affordable, great for gift giving, they come ready to wrap =)

Thanks for popping by! I take requests BTW! I don't accept them all, but it doesn't hurt to ask =)
Have a great thanksgiving...and hey, that's my BDay!

How freakin' cool is that, I have a DD today! I think that rocks so much, I love this place and all you deviants in it =)

Been a bit lacking on the inspiration of late so not a lot of totally new things, but if you've been here, you know even the not-totally new things are unique. But I did just finished a steampunk ginger bread dude who I think is so cool.

Have 3 new hummingbirds, 2 new crows, and 3 new butterflies which are all waiting for me to take pics so I can add them to my Artfire shop and here for all to see.

I also am working on a steam punk stick pin, something for folks to use to wear my large pendants instead of them being a pendant, I have a prototype made, I don't think it'll will hang well as I didn't think it thru too clearly, but once I take a pic of it you will get the idea.

I also have made my first set of stemapunk wine charms, nothing too special, kind of cute though.

Oh, and another bird skull cabochon, any takers?

I am not good at blogging so I feel confident in saying there won't be too much here, either lol But I will say something! Hmmmm, let me see...You're here to see what I've done so I'll say something about the clay, this stuff rocks, I absolutely love it! Right now, I've been working with it for about 5 months or so and I really can't wait to see what I make in a year or two. This clay just brings something out in me and I hope it's something I get to continue to work with.
