This is also to clear up some plot points in the DMZ timeline, as well as offer a way to interpret things in the original versions of some games with a mixed timeline in mind.

Created by the Shadow Queen to be someone else's companion in her only act of decency, Shroomsday's not just here, or there, or a chair, but everywhere. Rub off him the wrong way, and he'll make sure he's always on your mind. He also has a lot of awfully familiar, shiny bling on his head- and not all of it might be jewelry.

Ever since Bowser touched the Sticker Comet at Sticker Fest, Shroomsday has been active in one way or another in Mario's recent "storied" adventures. Even when not physically present or exterminated in one special case in a certain timeline, he's been around...

SHROOMSDAY (centre)- Paper Mario Relic Hunter and another fangame topic...
The original creature himself, or at least one of his many "master units", Shroomsday finally came face to face with Mario at the end of his adventure in Pastelora, thanks to the unintended twisted altruism of another villain. Long before then, Shroomsday battled four others to a standstill- though he lost, so did everyone else. He had also transfigured five of the Monty Mole king Montgomery's generals into a different shape, similar to his one true crown...

SHROOMSDAY CORE (back)- Paper Mario Relic Hunter and another fangame topic...
Shroomsday's perfect form, Core is a master of space. His rainbow breath is also one of the most powerful attacks in existence. Due to the Core form's cataclysmic power, Shroomsday only takes this form as a very last resort. Only one master unit can become Core form at a time, as the power strain is that great.

SHINY BOWSER (left of Shroomsday)- Paper Mario Sticker Star, Paper Mario Sticker Star Recut
When a golden crown fell on Bowser, although he gained great power, he also became linked to Shroomsday's hive network. In addition, the Shiny power of the Royal Stickers rubbed off onto the bosses and enemies.
By the time Mario and Kersti (and his other friends) finally reach him, Bowser was almost completely assimilated into Shroomsday's mental network. Though Mario (and friends) defeated Bowser with Kersti's power without ever knowing the true story, and despite all appearances, Bowser wasn't completely free...

SHINY ROBOBOWSER (top right)- Mario & Luigi Paper Jam (main story), Mario & Luigi Paper Jam Recut (EX boss)
...as when the Paper world's citizens were sucked into another similar dimension, not only did Paper Bowser and his minions end up there- some sleeper agents within Paper Bowser's ranks also came with them. In addition, Paper Bowser Junior was more than excited to have a friend for some reason. On top of that, some of Shroomsday's speech mannerisms rubbed onto Paper Bowser.
In one possible timeline, Paper Bowser used a new move he suspiciously just thought up to create robotic shiny armor for normal Bowser. Little did the latter know Paper Bowser was out cold, and someone else (guess who?) was looking through the armor helmet.

SUPERSHADOW CACKLETTA- Mario & Luigi Paper Jam Recut
In another timeline, Midbus waited to ambush the Bowsers at the last possible moment, before bringing back the lost Beanish witch Cackletta with the Paper Book. However, unknown to everyone, Paper Bowser Junior had been carrying around a purple mushroom before being sucked into the normal world. An opportunity arisen, Shroomsday sent some power into the reopened portal, marking Cackletta's shadow. The book was reopened again, and Shroomsday (as well as another demented straggler) sent even more power out alongside the more ancient energy. However, even three plus villains from two different worlds together were no match for the bros. and surprisingly the Bowser's timely assistance.
Though Paper Bowser and the demented straggler struggled and resisted, Shroomsday accepted his defeat- though not before giving a cryptic warning to the bros., especially Paper Mario.

THE BLACK PAINT ENTITY/SPLOTCHLEEK- Paper Mario Color Splash (concept art only), Paper Mario Color Splash Recut (main story)
A completely accidental alter-ego, as well as an almost unstoppable entity. Splotchleek was created over 1000 years ago after the princess Shroomsday was made to befriend mixed all the Grand Paint Stars' paint together with her royal energy, creating black paint. While either one of those things alone would have been troublesome, it was the third ingredient that gave this concoction an identity- the energy in Shroomsday's spike, broken off 30 seconds ago after a seemingly minor altercation with the other pet. Splotchleek stole Shroomsday's companion, leading to a skirmish. Since Splotchleek couldn't be normally defeated, the (now lost) king of Prism Island had to seal the black paint entity into a prototype gold bucket. Unfortunately, the measures taken to seal Splotchleek alerted forces from other dimensions and multiverses of Shroomsday's companion, culminating in a great war.
In another timeline, Bowser Junior and Motley inadvertently broke Splotchleek out of his prison. Systematically, Splotchleek took control of the two Koopas, then the seven Koopalings, before engaging Mario and his friends in a final confrontation in the Koopaling's Castle.
Also in this timeline, Shroomsday, realizing Bowser would create black paint as soon as he laid his eyes on Prisma Fountain, possessed him and diverted his attention to Redpepper Volcano.

BLACK BOWSER- Paper Mario Color Splash (main story), Paper Mario Color Splash Recut (EX boss)
In one timeline, though, Bowser shook off this possession, and went right for Prisma Fountain instead. However, this was the one time Bowser's shouldn't have done that, as the black paint plus Bowser's royal energy, combined with Shroomsday's lingering presence, lead to the creation of a second black paint entity- Black Bowser. An accident within an accident, while Mario was saving the first Big Paint Star, Black Bowser went across the globe and ended the game of every Shroomsday master unit. When he returned, he kidnapped the princess. And now you know the rest of the story.

Basically, every plothole with the current Paper Mario games could be answered with "Shroomsday did it."

You can probably also guess that this character will not show up in Mario Story Fruit Shake, an upcoming fangame topic, due to his strong ties to the eighth gen games.

Due to a waiver at the beginning of Relic Hunter, Shroomsday is owned by Nintendo.
