Greetings everyone,
What is it that inspires your art? For me, it's always music. Always has been.
Ten years ago I discovered the enchanting music of Sarah Jaffe through a YT video uploaded with a specific picture, that instantly drew me in. The picture is this:
I have no idea where it comes from, who took it, where is it from, but what I know is that, to me, it perfectly encapsulates the song 'Summer Begs'. If the original owner stumbles upon this post, please get in touch with me. There is so much poetry and beauty into this picture and it fits the song so perfectly; it has, on multiple occasions, helped me dream and visualise scenes of exquisite beauty and freedom as I listened to the song.
Recently I began to wonder what would happen if the video was taken down, or if something happened to the internet. Because I couldn't find a source for this photograph, I began to think that it would be lost forever. And so, I wanted to preserve it. To do what all ancients artists did, to make it immortal. Hence, my artwork below.
I wanted to try and capture some of the mood that the original picture communicated, while also use my own style in rendering this idea. Through this work, I wanted to give tribute both to the song, its artist (check out her songs if you like folk music or if you like to fall in love) and the Youtuber that merged the music with the simplicity of that wonderful picture, and created art.
My brand is about preserving and resurrecting the past, but this is the first time that I felt inspired to preserve a work of the internet instead of some ancient master. I like to think that it works the same way, and this is all simply history.
Stay inspired,
DerectumArt
