"She's so lucky, she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night~"

Couldn't help think of this song reading this strip

In the end, perception is everything.
What I see as absolute hell is heaven for others. This is especially problematic when people force you to adopt their views and/or lifestyle...

Do you think this was what Chris Cornell was feeling?

No idea, really. This strip was inspired by an interview with Trent Reznor and finished two weeks before posted  (I finish strips early for Patreon supporters) and finished before the Chris Cornell tragedy broke.

That that girl needs love and not adoration to make that doom go away. Damn, I need adoration.

It is foolish to think that all there is to happiness is materialism. It might feel good to have these things for a time or maybe even in a single moment but often times, people do not realize that when you are depressed, you question why the hell you're even doing what you're doing. Something you usually enjoy or something you used to enjoy. Truly, you feel like there is something missing and broken deep within that cannot be fixed so simply just by having everything you want. Materialism is not the root to happiness.

I suppose becoming aware of this in the middle of a show can be quite catastrophic.

It's true. It's so, so true. And the sad part is, everyone will just tell you you have so much that you can't possibly be sad or upset; you have no right to it. You've already been so "blessed" that sadness and other like emotions should be off the checklist

That is why I keep saying that depression is a "chemical conundrum" and not an emotion: emotions can be controlled and chemicals can help... but somehow depression always leaves the "conundrum" no matter how well treated or managed it is.

I agree. There's this idea where wealth, talent, luck, or success should cancel out any effects of depression. Anyone with depression will tell you it's bullshit, except now they got this extra layer of guilt about what they have to feed into their illness.
